There’s one problem with this and many theory/speculations I’m reading. They assume the band will compose and put out music based on some willingness to appeal to this or that part of the fandom, or as they say here to “try to unite their fans more”. In my opinion one constant that characterized GD throughout their career is that they do not give a fuck about fan service and putting out music based on what their fanbase might or might not want, for the good and for the bad. Thanks to this not giving a fuck about fan service, thanks to the fact that they just put out the music they like to write and play at a certain point of their career, we got some of their best records, and some of their most controversial ones. FOAM is a clear example of this, as Warning, as Dookie, as AI, as Nimrod, as the Trilogy. This is why I find extremely ridiculous that someone still buy into the conspiracy theory of “FOAM was a joke record to piss off this or that”, and why I believe whatever the new record is gonna be is not gonna be that because BJ is thinking about what a teenager or a 40yo dude wants to listen in his bedroom. Even less to find a compromise between that. It’s gonna be what these three 50yo want to put out now. Bad or good we’ll see. But they don’t give a fuck about mine or your desires. Just my opinion of course. And IMHO thank god they don’t give a fuck or we’d be listening to Kerplunk 14, or not because they would not exist anymore.

But if you think about it, every record was recorded to fulfill a contract. It’s what a record deal is.

I couldn’t agree more with @HAPPY FINKING UNICORN, you may like it, you may not, but they will record the music they want to. It’s how they stay true to themselves and it’s what makes them so interesting and why they are still together and recording.

So now Green Day is the go to band to pretend you’re somehow affilliated with? that’s what they get for not sueing the first time!

That story was amazing! I love to see their exchange messaging as this happened. Judging by the messages I suspect this collab is 100% Billie but credited to Green Day like he would do. (Sounds like maybe the band also mixed it, and maybe they signed off on it but it doesn’t sound like they play) The whole legal thing is interesting like this “4 verse” rule that allows him to collab outside of his Warner deal. Thanks for sharing all this. I’m always curious as to how these things unfold behind the scenes. So he sings in the chorus which is great. Often with his collabs you’re lucky if you detect a signature guitar sound and that’s it. And no surprise that the way to Billie’s heart is through cool socks haha (and his comment about being too old 🥺❤️) And the way he tries to use some Spanish is freaking adorable and considerate as hell

[EDIT: This story appears to be FAKE, it's probably a prank for Spanish April Fools which is celebrated on December 28, Dia de los Santos Inocentes (Holy Innocents' Day) which is somewhat similar to April Fools' Day] ''Nevermore'' by Emlan feat. Green Day will be released on January 1st 2023. There's an amazing story behind this collaboration! It all started with Rock am Ring 2022 where the musicians were both scheduled to play on the same day. 'Unfortunately' Emlan injured his ankle and his performance was cancelled. The Spanish musician vented on TikTok and received an answer directly from Green Day! So he decided to contact them privately on Instagram saying that he would have liked to share the same stage and offered to open a concert. To his surprise, Billie Joe in person replied to him, through the Green Day profile, complimenting him and showing interest in having Emlan as opening act for future concerts. Emlan releases a new album entitled "Hotel Chiclepunk" (Calaverita Records, 22). And he gets the idea of giving Green Day exclusive socks to promote his album. He contacted Billie on Green Day's Instagram profile and the frontman immediately gave him the address to send them to! Five weeks later, Billie sent photos from a concert of him and Tré Cool wearing these socks they had received as a gift. Than Emlan wrote to Billie Joe a new message, saying he had a new song and Billie's voice would be perfect and asked for the opinion of the Green Day frontman. Armstrong greatly appreciated and replied there were no problems about it and he could sing 4 lines on his song (which, however, should have been presented to the public not as a Green Day single but as a feat.). ''Nevermore'' will be released on January 1, 2023 on all music streaming platforms and Billie Joe will sing the chorus!!!! WAIT. There are some strange things about this story, I'm beginning to think it might be a Panicland-style hoax. 1. The photos of the socks are photoshopped 2. Emlan posted some stories with articles about the song, if you google those articles (from Rolling Stone) , they don't exist, so they are clearly fake/photoshopped. 3. Emlan said that Green Day followed him on Instagram (and showed a screenshot of the follow), if you check GD profile they don't follow him! 4. Emlan said he was supposed to play as an artist at Rock am Ring on the day Green Day had played but his name is not mentioned anywhere in the festival's 2022 lineup

I would love to see everyone spending the holidays separately. For years “80” is a toxic influence and leach yet it’s ok for fans to not like the son or Mike Dirnt’s wife? I don’t know why it seems 80 is put on a pedestal. I hope there’s finally some distance and good riddance to 80. Hopefully there’s no references of that person on the new record. Youngblood was an annoying song. Nothing new to write about such an uninspired influence.
