Knowing the risk of sounding extremely annoying and obnoxious, I have to say the whining in this forum is reaching unknown levels to humanity. Every thread is filled with self-entitled posts that assume the 50 people constantly writing in here are the only target audience of any promotional campaign, product release and content from the band. I am the first to recognize some of the disastrous marketing choices that Crush made in the FOAM era, but geez we are getting never before heard demos and pro live recordings of one of their best records. If you don’t care just move along. And ffs, lack of new music? We got two side projects releasing two full records in a three year hiatus including a fucking pandemic. Plus all the shitty b-side singles and covers. We got a world tour. I wonder what you would have done in the 4 year hiatus between Warning and AI. They have teased new music a year ago, clearly something changed in the plan, we have to wait a bit longer. Just fucking wait. What we’ll get could be good or bad, but the wait is not impacting your music experience in any way. This is not what is gonna make the record a success or not if this is what you are worried about, our satisfaction with their promotional strategies is not what makes them good or bad, we represent 0.0001% of their fanbase. I get it, being teased and then dealing with silence is hard, but they are not breaking up, they are not disappearing, they are clearly just waiting for the right window to start the real promotion, everyone in here is aware of this, just stop whining and wait a few more months or whatever is needed. Even the fucking GD subreddit is more enjoyable than this. Sorry I am gonna disappear again.9 points

Plausible! I'm very interested for promo to start so we can get some interviews explaining how everything came together. We haven't had a proper music-related interview since 2019.9 points

Safe to say that the marketing strategy just continues down the road for each passing year. As I said before FOAM, the marketing strategy is shit. There is no other way of saying it. A live version of songs we've heard so many times already, there is nothing exciting about this at all, we just get dissapointed every time there seems to be someting exciting about to happen. Same goes to teasing new music and how they promote it. Sure, it is fun getting unreleased music from the old times, but the strategy just seems so odd, there is no continuity in what they're doing and promoting. The 1972 teasers that randomly appear and goes silent for another 6 months seems so strange. Releasing live music of songs there are already 100+ versions of isn't exciting, releasing live music from newer tours of songs and shows we haven't heard before or we haven't had so much of must be a better way to promote and make their music known to fans (or upcoming fans as well) i.e. Give me a full show video from the RR, 99R or 21cb tour with songs that's not Basket Case, She, American Idiot or KYE and that would be so much more exciting than a live version of those that we've already seen so many times. With that being said, Green Day do whatever the fuck they wanna do, and that is alright. That is what I like so much about them. The music (even though we've heard a thousand times) is awesome, but please, be a bit more creative.8 points

x2!! Also, it feels a little bit frustrating the band put more effort promoting their coffee brand instead of their music projects. I don't care if the label releases a live version of songs that we have 3746873 versions of it (She, Basket Case, American Idiot, etc). It could be REALLY AWESOME if THE BAND comes to their social media and speak to us about the coming up projects. Just imagine this... "Hey, what's up? It's me Billie, and we're gonna release an anniversary edition for one of our best records, it will be Nimrod XXV. There will be some unreleased demos, unreleased songs and one unreleased show. Tomorrow we will be in a stream, telling you some stories about those sessions, stay tune!!" AND... THAT'S HOW YOU MAKE HYPE!! The sad thing is they kinda did this in the past...7 points

I feel like they’ve taken the wind out of their own sales a bit for the Nimrod anniversary. I love Nimrod, no idea how many times I’ve listened to it and I love to get new live versions BUT they have been teasing new music and that is an insatiable need we have now so it diminishes our excitement for old stuff revisited. It’s also occurred to me that there is a problem in being so consistently good live, it’s not like we only had shifty versions of NGFL up til now so are hoping for better quality versions. 🤷🏼♂️5 points

I like some of the stuff but only without the "brain dead" logo. That ruins it for me5 points

Yeah they've really made it hard to get excited about Nimrod anniversary edition or 1972. I'm sure I'll enjoy the new Nimrod album and I'll most likely get some enjoyment from the new album too but they've been teasing 1972 for ages and we still don't really know anything about the album except that it'll be released in 2023 (and we've known that for ages) and for Nimrod, all we got on the actual anniversary was a demo track and an announcement of the anniversary edition. I mean, it would've made much more sense to release the demo a month or two before the anniversary and then release the actual album anniversary edition on the anniversary. But it's hard to get at all excited about a NGFL live version when we already got one last year. You Irritate Me isn't anything outstanding either but at least it's a new unheard track that sounds like a Green Day sound that we haven't heard since the 90's5 points

Would be kind of funny if they did though Not totally unrelated, when the hell is Oakland Coffee going to release a blend called 409?5 points

In the end the real 1972 is the friends we made along the way 😁 I don’t know about anyone else but I’m just having a good time chatting with y’all.4 points

You’ve successfully pointed out how hard it is to be a working musician these days. If touring can’t happen, it’s either release your music streaming for no real money or brand your image and sell as much merch as you can. Physical sales, the only real way for an artist to earn money from the music itself, are getting harder to accomplish with supply shortages and long waits. Even Green Day isn’t immune to this. They may have a back catalog with more in the bank and selling power, but I would bet more of their reserves would be drained every year if they put out more new music. Recording is expensive, and no one pays you while you do it, but you still have to pay your crew. Branding, merch, coffee business and hella mega tours are what keep the lights on. Those small shows everyone wants? Those cost them money too.3 points

The main problem with their marketing strategy, is that seems there isn't any strategy at all. Many fanpages do a way better work promoting them then the band crew behind their social media I am a person who complais and who compares what other bands do with what GD does, and I only do it because I care about this band and because I know things could be way better for fans, casual and hardcore fans, and for their money making strategy and marketing. It's a win-win, if they put a little more effort3 points

Well, I want to put this live version of NGFL from the same concert. This was released in 2009, I think. Let's compare this mix with the new one, later.3 points

One year ago this month actually, December 19th to be exact. And it was around this time last year we already started hearing the rumors they recorded 6 songs!!3 points

Here are the first 4 teasers, and honestly, they sound nothing like FOAM. I'm sure Rob was with them through the whole thing but they surprised us later with that teaser3 points

There lot of Green Day great old songs without modern quality live versions: razorbacks, Road to acceptance, I was there, private Ale, 80, words i might have ate... And lot of repeated live tracks like "she"3 points

I find this legacy band stuff really annoying. Two live versions of NGFL in one year. Make something new already.3 points

At the start of 2020 just as COVID was about to hit, that year realized 2 singles, 3 EPs total of 11 songs. In between 3 albums released, FOAM, No Fun Mondays, The Network's second album. We were spoiled rotten. Yes, 2021 was a tad quieter, 4 singles, but also amazing Welcome to My Panic, with the end of the year the BBC sessions. 2022 has been very quiet. It's post COVID, but it's not gone away, I know friends are still suffering from long COVID after 2 years, and a couple have sadly died. Demand is rocketing, supply cannot cope, millions are still off work. And now a war in Europe, again. Like many industries there's material shortage, not enough working plants to meet the overwhelming demand, and not enough qualified staff. And what is one of those industries reeling from this? Vinyl. Latest indications is that vinyl is facing meltdown, with US hardest hit. Lead times are extending. What was previously weeks to issue a vinyl release it's now months. And what about those awesome covers for our vinyl records? There's a world shortage of ready supply of cardboard. I reckon GD have struggled to get Nimrod 25th out for Jan'23 nice one guys. CD production is a highly sophisticated manufacturing process and is also struggling. I'm sure GD are working very hard to get there music out there. But maybe there's things happening out there that we may never know. I respect all the views on here both points of view have real merit. We may try to understand, but hey we love GD so much and they are so fuckin good, we crave new stuff so much. Man I've been living with this for 30 years. Awesome. I have this feeling that 2023 will be something special for every GD fan.2 points

NGFL is probably one of my favourite song by Green Day. The live version is really good but yeah we'd already heard it so I'm not really satisfy lol2 points

If they are going to release old material, it would be so much more exciting if they would just release video footage of old concerts! Imagine a few never before seen full pro shot concerts on their YouTube channel. 😍😍 One from each era 👌2 points

Guys think of it this way, we’re only a month away from 2023!!! I’m sure we’ll be bombarded with 1972 promos after Nimrod, give or take a few weeks after January 27th1 point

It's not easy for band's these days post COVID, see @pacejunkie punk excellent comments in Nimrod topic. There's so many issues in the world that are affecting album releases not least cost. I'm sorry you think that way. Every minute I spend on here is precious, never a waste of time, I've learnt so much more about GD and treasure being part of this awesome GD community. There are things going on behind the scenes we know nothing about. I'm sure when new album is released it will worth the wait. I've had to wait for album releases over the last 30+ years, but never regretted it. Love yer.1 point

I hope it sounds exactly like foam. Like some of the same songs even. Then pizzagate and pool party from The Network. And the same cover, but uglier.1 point

But why it isn’t a good marketing strategy? Why you are so bothered by it? How promoting an anniversary record is bad for them or us? It’s not that the average GD fan or listener will stop listening to their music because they started teasing the hardcore fans one year ago. Neither will anyone here. No one outside here cares, I get you are annoyed, maybe sometimes I might misinterpret some posts I don’t know… but it feels like so much drama for nothing. And I get people complaining in the speculation thread, it’s a dead thread, but come one, they still released a a song here, we are talking about that. Same in the merch collab thread. Is it really that bad that we are getting this stuff? 😳1 point
-
I feel a bit targeted here, and for good reason. I agree 100% with you, and to complain and whine about what we're hoping to get vs what we already have recieved is a fine balance that's not easy to reach. In my opinion I think that many of us are a bit confused as to what theyr're actually doing and why it don't feel like we're getting what we want, but rather the same stuff, just "refurbished". But that's how it is. As I said, I agree with you on this, and also I think that many of us want more "new" stuff rather than old? I may be wrong here, but that's what I feel at least.1 point

If that's what they were trying to do with FOAMF then they couldn't have failed any harder. FOAMF doesn't even sound like a super commercial album. Like, is there a single mainstream album out there that sounds anything like FOAMF? If they wanted to have a more successful mainstream album, the most obvious way of doing that would be to do collaborations with other mainstream artists. Even looking at the singles, there isn't anything there that really sounds like it would've stood out in the mainstream I can't imagine the band looking at FOAMF and thinking "that's going to be the next American Idiot"1 point
-
Gotta sneaky feeling BJA and co but especially BJA wants one more great mainstream album before they are done. I genuinely think that's what they were trying with FOAMF. Maybe that's why they are making this album sound like American Idiot.... 🤔1 point

Some big news, guys. On page 187 of the Halloween Ends novel, Green Day and their song "Basketcase" are mentioned. Good ole Frank has been learning guitar, and that is the first song he learned to play without looking at his strings.1 point

IN REMEMBRANCE 50 years ago today, November 16, 1972, Jason Andrew Relva was born. He became a childhood friend of Mike Dirnt. Sadly, he died following injuries he sustained in a car accident on April 18, 1992. He was 19 years old. Mike wrote the song entitled J. A. R. in remembrance of him. In the song, Mike is talking about his friend who is now gone and about what it makes him feel. He’s saying that this death made him face the fact that he’s mortal and his life could end any second. Mike is saying that he’s living life just like his friend did, but now his friend is gone and maybe he didn’t give all that he could, but it’s too late now. My friend drove off the other day, now he’s gone and all they say Is “you got to live cause life goes on…” But now I see I’m mortal too, I can’t live my life like you Got to live it up while life goes on And I think it’s all right That I do what I like ‘Cause that’s the way I want to live It’s how I give, and I’m still givin’… And now I wonder ‘bout my friend, if he gave all he could give ‘Cause he lived his life like I live mine If you could see inside my head, then you’d start to understand The things I value in my heart And I think it’s all right That I do what I like ‘Cause that’s the way I want to live It’s how I give, and I’m still givin’… You know that I know that You’re watchin’ me! And I think it’s all right That I do what I like ‘Cause that’s the way I want to live It’s how I give, and I’m still givin’… Got to make a plan, got to do what’s right Can’t run around in circles if you wanna build a life But I don’t want to make a plan for a day far away While I’m young and while I’m able, all I want to do is… R.I.P. It was first heard as an acoustic demo later that year. The song appeared again on the Dookie demos in 1993 at Art of Ears and Dancing Dog studios. It later featured on the soundtrack to the movie Angus in 1995 and released as 7” single. It featured on the greatest hits collection International Superhits 2001, and the live album Awesome as Fuck 2011.1 point

Listeing to "The Saints Are Coming" on Spotify. The live version, because it is the meaning of life. Anyway, Spotify is as bad at lyrics at the Rev Rad booklet because it says that Bono sings "Trump On Shorty" when he is clearly references Trombone Shorty. Oh my. Trump on Shorty. What the freak. Trump on Shorty. Give me a break. You gotta be kidding me. gotta be kidding me. Trump on shorty.1 point
