IN REMEMBRANCE
50 years ago today, November 16, 1972, Jason Andrew Relva was born. He became a childhood friend of Mike Dirnt. Sadly, he died following injuries he sustained in a car accident on April 18, 1992. He was 19 years old.
Mike wrote the song entitled J. A. R. in remembrance of him.
In the song, Mike is talking about his friend who is now gone and about what it makes him feel. Heās saying that this death made him face the fact that heās mortal and his life could end any second. Mike is saying that heās living life just like his friend did, but now his friend is gone and maybe he didnāt give all that he could, but itās too late now.
My friend drove off the other day, now heās gone and all they say
Is āyou got to live cause life goes onā¦ā
But now I see Iām mortal too, I canāt live my life like you
Got to live it up while life goes on
And I think itās all right
That I do what I like
āCause thatās the way I want to live
Itās how I give, and Iām still givināā¦
And now I wonder ābout my friend, if he gave all he could give
āCause he lived his life like I live mine
If you could see inside my head, then youād start to understand
The things I value in my heart
And I think itās all right
That I do what I like
āCause thatās the way I want to live
Itās how I give, and Iām still givināā¦
You know that I know that
Youāre watchinā me!
And I think itās all right
That I do what I like
āCause thatās the way I want to live
Itās how I give, and Iām still givināā¦
Got to make a plan, got to do whatās right
Canāt run around in circles if you wanna build a life
But I donāt want to make a plan for a day far away
While Iām young and while Iām able, all I want to do isā¦
