  1. An alternative definition of a legacy in Cambridge Dictionary says quote: "something that is part of your history or that remains from an earlier time." Well Green Day has done that in my life. I feel so lucky and privileged to have fallen in love with Green Day back in '91 starting with Kerplunk then backtracking to 1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours. And what a journey. Every awesome song that has come out of that amazing head of Billie Joe has been a progression a next step never a decline or step backwards. I've been like a ball in a pinball machine. Continually surprised and moving in different directions. Green Day are unique, no band is so diverse with its music. They've spent most of their life recording, touring, recording, touring. They must be well fucked. I know I am following them, but I wouldn't have it any other may. I'm so so grateful to them for changing my live and fulfilling my life so much. Not to mention all the live performances you will always treasure, after Kerplunk, your taken on a new journey into the land of Pinhead Gunpowder. The latter interspersing Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod, and Warning. For me no decline just getting better and better. Later, along with more awesome studio albums, introducing us to the Network, FHTs, The Longshot, and Billie Joe's No Fun Mondays and Welcome To My Panic. No other band comes close. It's been 30+ years of breathless heaven, that's my legacy, I'm so grateful, and to share it with you means everything.

  3. It's so weird to think about the fact that if they didn't make American Idiot and blow up for the 2nd time, I probably wouldn't have discovered them. AI and 21CB were the albums that got me on board with Green Day. I might not even be into the kind of music that I'm into if I didn't hear those albums at the time and I might never have discovered them ever If the legacy band label was pinned on them in the early 2000's and they never got that 2nd big break in 2004, that wouldn't have been a great legacy. Not to say that their 90's albums are bad or anything, I don't think that at all, but Dookie was their only real hit album at the time and that's what they would be remembered for by most people and as much as I love that album, that would be such a waste. After AI and 21CB, albums like Insomniac & Warning that were initially considered disappointing started getting more love and appreciation and I don't think that would've happened if AI was never made. With a career with as many high points as they have, Green Day are never going to be forgotten. And it makes sense to use their legacy status to get more people into the band to listen to their old music and their new albums when they release, which is why I think these anniversary editions of their old albums being released before their new album is a good idea. Generate some hype around Green Day a few months before releasing new music

  12. While I agree they are unique I still think there has been bands with more diversity in their musical progression. Rush The Clash Rancid (at times with Life Won't Wait and Indestructible) Queen? The Who? Black Flag? There's others that may come to mind later. I think for their specific scene it's true though. Most of their peers didn't even get out of Gilman. There's even claims GD ripped their sound off of Mr.T Experience but Mr.T Experience couldn't survive at Green Day's level and evolve the way they have. It's subjective too. The Clash definitely ventured into way more genres. Rush ventured more into technical musical pieces and progressions. I'm back. A wolf in wolves clothing. and Pinhead Gunpowder, The Frustrators, Jason White's bands etc The Network albums and FBHT album are better than some of the newer GD albums. Think about how many albums they put out from 91 to 09 - they're all cohesive and amazing in their own way. Not to mention there's hundreds of songs never even used on any records. Minnesota Girl, Things I Heard Today and a whole C&V album.

  13. GDC will sell but right now I'm back so the value has gone up. My controversies typically drive more traffic to the site. I should probably disappear for a bit and then send a lowball offer.

  15. I find the CD to be expensive as well to be honest. If I'm going to pay high end I'm going for the vinyl every time. I don't see much availability in Canada to order. I see Amazon US had it but not Amazon CA. I probably won't be buying this. I love that they're starting to unleash the vault (their contract negotiations of the past year or so probably will permit more of this) but I'm not going back to buy old albums I already have at these prices. The value just doesn't match for me personally. I can listen to the demos on Spotify. I already have the Nimrod CD. I think next they should do a double-vinyl of AI and C&V. That would be awesome.

  16. Yeah I thought this was another release where I would get both formats but when I saw how expensive the vinyl was I decided only CD was just fine šŸ˜‚ the yellow version I got of Nimrod on vinyl will suffice.

  18. I think I've mentioned this before, back in '91 a was getting bored with music it just wasn't hitting the spot. Then I heard Dry Ice on the radio. That was it, that's what I've been waiting for. Then I got my hands on Kerplunk, I was in love with a band and hooked for life.

  19. I wouldn't read too much into it. These are all investments so at some point you've milked enough out of it that you move on to something else or choose that the hassle is no longer worth it. I can imagine Rudy's Cant Fail was a hassle to handle during all the covid shut downs. I'm a bit more surprised at Billie departing from Broken Guitars but who knows what kind of challenges are faced there. When you're in their position and things start to feel like a job they have the ability to be able to escape it. Financial freedom is awesome. Also they run Oakland Coffee currently. Nimrod of the state

  20. They most likely wouldn't be around right now if it didn't happen. AI was pretty much an album that was either going to make it worth continuing or be a really solid last album. Where I'm from Nimrod is actually a beloved album. The way general fans talk about Green Day here you would think the order of releases were Dookie - Nimrod - AI I think they're relevant but in the way that classic rock bands remained relevant in the early 2000s. People know that time is of the essence and there's a shortage of high quality rock bands or the output of new bands is significantly less than the quality output in previous years. It's a shame cause Green Day set the stage for another generation but the generation they passed the torch to shit all over it. That 2000s emo phase might be one of the worst movements ever in alternative music history. Those bands got even worse when emo died.

  21. Legacy act is a new term for me.. not a fan of that phrase personally. But GD did a pretty good job keeping relevant and "popular" over such a long time. Can they do it again? I doubt it However Nostalgia is very "in" at the moment. We have these 20 year old that are listening to music they grew up with or what their parents listened to. I find it so funny going to popular bars and things and they're playing the same music they were 20 years ago

  22. I agree. I love Rush. I met them too and they were awesome. also their newer albums were actually really great too but like GD they dipped a bit after their classic albums. Hopefully GD can comeback in a similar way Rush did
    2 points
  23. To be clear I didnā€™t mean that as a pejorative. There are good and bad ways you can be a legacy act. Iā€™d just rather them be something more like Rush and less like The Beach Boys.

  24. Even new fans from the past tour may be discovering Nimrod for the first time (checking out the album with Good Riddance on it) and then will be tuned in to when 1972 comes out and be more inclined to give it a listen. I'm sure they were hoping the HM tour would raise their profile, even as big as they already are, because there are so many people under the illusion that Green Day broke up years ago, don't still release new music, etc.

  25. yeah, it was first considered for Nimrod, and then appeared on the C&V tracklist that john Roecker shared a few years ago

  33. It's Billie Joe's Ultimate Contract Cheat They're gonna drop a single when it's trick or treat The album will fail so miserably because of Lydia's netflix tweet This group may be the world's biggest minority group. PM wasn't working but thanks for letting me get a chance to report that. In the future let's have somebody else handle me as a mod. I'm tired of being subjected to the power issues. How is reporting 1 post abuse of the system? No need to answer the question just move me onto someone else in the future to deal with. I may just leak that warning posts page cause it's that ridiculous. I get that most of you guys don't have much power at home or work but just in case you ever get to clear over $18k a year you should start practicing now. You can't succeed in life acting erroneously. They're in their 50's though so it's not as negative as when it was pinned on them in the early 2000s. Completely normal to be a legacy act after having a solid career for 30 years.

  34. The leak came from a vinyl and the guy who transferred it didnā€™t really know how to do so in the greatest way thatā€™s why the quality isnā€™t the best

  35. Yeah I'm fine with them prioritising the Nimrod anniversary edition before the release of 1972 even if it makes them seem like a "legacy band". I can imagine if there's any advertising or promoting of the album before its release that it will emphasise the fact that it's the album that has Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) on it. I think those casual Green Day fans would be more likely to listen and maybe get into the rest of their discography and/or stick around for 1972

  36. Awesome! Welcome to the fandom. I joined late too, RevRad is what did it for me. And yes as @GDFan2019 said, it explains why Billie would wear an intriguing 1972 vest to plant the idea in people's heads.

  38. As someone who became a fan after hella mega I can confirm that ppl will do this. Hell, my bestie and I got back to the hotel around 12:30 a.m. bc we were in the merch line and as soon as we got there I plugged my earphones in and searched up Green Day and listened to their songs, especially the older stuff, for a full hour afterward!

  39. I like the timing of 1972. Because of all the festivals they headlined during the past months they got the attention of many non-GD-fans. And now with the release of the Nimrod anniversary album they get the attention of former-GD-fans. So maybe they are rather in the spotlight when they release 1972 than they were when they released FOAM.

  41. It kinda bothers me though that the release date for the album is in 2023 instead of 2022 when Nimrod was released in 1997. Just like how Insomniac's release was in 2021 instead of 2020. Like is it even still a 25th anniversary edition if it's not released 25 years after the album's initial release. Like for the Insomniac anniversary edition, ok but you'd think if they were going to do this for more albums that they'd plan it out better so that the new edition of the album comes out on the same day as the album's anniversary or at least the same year

  42. Iā€™m hoping this will have been sound a little better than this leak for earlier in the year.

  43. How can a band thatā€™s been around 30 years not have an element of being a legacy band? If they didnā€™t, it would mean nothing they had put out in that 30 years was worth going back to listen to!
    1 point
  44. After this tour Iā€™m starting to believe that but Iā€™m willing to give them one more new album/tour cycle before fully accepting it. If the next tour is the same pattern of greatest hits and mostly festival dates, then yeah. Basically, Iā€™m still in the denial phase of grief šŸ«¢

  47. Sounds plausible. Iā€™m not aware of anything I havenā€™t already said, so still just ā€œ2023.ā€ Itā€™s hard to tell if the Nimrod release in late January is timed due to physical media production, or to start generating buzz for whatā€™s next. Iā€™d have to assume the new album would be out by When We Weā€™re Young, at the latest. If more festivals are announced or we start hearing rumors of venues getting booked for tour dates, Iā€™d think weā€™d have a more accurate estimate of when an album would be released. Has Green Day ever been a band to start a tour prior to an album being released? (Excluding the trilogy)
