  1. Omg I'm so sick of outrage culture. I get it. A lot of our beloved celebrities have done horrible things. And yes that should be called out. But now it feels like so many people on the internet try to dig up shit people to find any excuse to cancel them as if to say look! You can't like this thing now! I'm sick of people trying to cancel someone over fake or small things.

  2. I highly doubt they will stop to making new records soon. Billie seems to be a workaholic composer.

  5. At this point of Green Day's career, I doubt we are getting records more often. I think that every new record could be their last and we should prepare for that

  6. It was packed and too physically difficult to achieve. Too much promotion all summer, they practically did an entire tour just promoting the record before the tour and the TV commitments were relentless too. It contributed to Billie's drug abuse and collapse. Over the summer they went to Europe then Japan, then England, then back to Europe again and then nonstop shows and appearances in the states with no breaks. They didn't know where they were or when and it screws with your ability to sleep among other things.

  7. Taylor Hawkins was born in 1972 (he and Billie have the same exact birthday), so it could have been a reference to that.

  8. Could be, but they've historically been quiet over November and December (presumably for the holidays), so, again, don't expect anything until next year from an announcement perspective. On the other hand, there's no reason why tour dates couldn't get nailed down, promo plans developed, music video(s) shot, etc. Not saying this will happen, but if they're aiming for an early in the year release, planning would start soon.

  9. I got Uno the day of it's release. Those couple of days after the album came out were really great days to be a fan. It's a very standard Green Day album, nothing more but nothing less. It was a breath of fresh air after 2 rock operas with 5 years apart between them. It was good to have them back just 2 years after the big 2010 tour.

  12. It's gonna be a hit for sure. I have total faith in Rob Cavallo and CLA, this going to be Green Day how they're meant to sound and it's gonna chart and everybody is gonna love and we're gonna be like fuck yes šŸ‘Œ They won't reach AI level again obviously, because rock isn't as big as it was then -- but like, I reckon it's gonna be at least as successful as recent mainstream rock albums. Trust me people Green Day are fucking coming back and I'm so hyped. Imagine RevRad had AI level production -- that would've gone down as a legendary Green Day album. That's what we're in for

  13. I think that if 1972 be a big hit, they won't release another record for a long while. Maybe this would even be their last if that was the case
    3 points
  14. Exactly. There has to be more than one level to it. I do think some lyrics Billie has written were in poor taste and don't reflect well on him, but that doesn't mean that it's comparable to people getting cancelled for committing actual crimes etc. As Anita Sarkeesian said: ā€œIt's both possible, and even necessary, to simultaneously enjoy media while also being critical of its more problematic or pernicious aspects.ā€

  15. I just feel that everybody seems offended by everything, fine if you are genuinely upset by something but it means creeps start getting away stuff due to the old "cried wolf" thing, and also serious things start lose importance.

  17. I feel the same way! I fell in love with UNO instantly and it's still my favorite of the trilogy. I have such fond memories of this era because it's the first time I was active in the fan community. I joined Idiot Nation, I officially joined GDC around that time, bought tickets to my first Green Day concert, and started chatting with other fans. I was so happy. I still remember getting UNO at midnight because of my pre-order. I stayed up alllll night listening to it, trying to memorize every song. Of course, Billie's rehab stint brought the mood down. I was really sad and worried, but despite this this era of Green Day still has a lot of great memories for me. And it felt like such a redemptive moment when the 99 Revolutions toured opened up in my state and Billie was overcome with emotion because we waited for him and were just happy that he's back on stage where he belongs. Gah what a great time. I've been wanting to write about this for a while. Trying to get that in the works for a fun article.

  31. It was kinda weird to see Billie Joe back then. You knew somethingā€˜s wrong before he went to rehab. they cancelled a show in Italy in 2012 because he went to the hospital for one day. And in Mƶnchengladbach during one song (I think Letterbomb) he just lay down for 2 minutes and screamed in his mic like something hurts šŸ˜•

  32. Drat! Why won't the world let me enjoy the lies!!!!! Luckily I kept the browser window open and just screen shot it: September 26th at the Drunken Pup in Fayetteville, NC. Maria American Idiot Bouncing off the Wall Horseshoes and Hand Grenades Geek Stink Breathe She Nice Guys Finish Last Let Yourself Go absolutely zero people attended and I hear Tre Cool got drunker than any human being has ever been. Billie gained 70 pounds for the show and Mike Dirnt was in really bad spirits and also had dreadlocks for some reason. NOTE: I did have someone on the internets ask me to say that I was there so this wouldn't get taken down, which is hilarious, but kind of goes against the Dude code of conduct. I couldn't lie about a Green Day concert. I CAN spend the night singing El Scorcho and Precious Metal Girl and drink and cry a lot though. Maybe a bonfire as I.....wait for it....it's on topic, I swear......wait for 1972 to release.

  42. 1972 won't be called 1972. That's just some random tagline they are using a working title. At this very moment in time, at 7pm sharp.....I"m thinking the album title will be Blue Whales and The Bamboozled Network Band Explode Into Glory. Song titles could include but are not limited AT ALL: 1972 Sucks. Forgive the Ants. Coffee Blood River Sand Repent! (Featuring The Rolling Stones) Catch Those Dreams, !@@#$ I'm A Falling I'm B Falling Lady, I Love Ya (Featuring the Mystic Knights of the Cobra) Reach Your Heart The Saints Are Coming (featuring Weezer and Lil Wayne) God Is Lovely Scratching Fiends And The JOS (featuring U2 and Metallica) We're Normal Now (featuring Highly Suspect) F(woo) Us / Bark At Your Love / Spirits Die Young Saints Go Home Again

"...and a prosthetic leg ā€œI gotta say, you guys are a bunch of weird motherf***ers out here tonight,ā€ Green Day's Armstrong said when a fan threw their prosthetic leg onto the stage. ā€œThereā€™s some f***ing Jeffrey Dahmer s*** going on here. 46. I don't know how much they're investing into this project but we do know that they've been to Oceanway and some reputable studios. Rob Cavallo is back with them and I'm pretty sure he's telling them if I'm in this next project let's actually make a maximum Green Day record this time in real studios. I also think CLA is back with them on this project. It would seem they are taking their time and proceeding with care but we also know going too far and taking too long won't help the process either. I think a fall 2023 release may be most probable and realistic. It will also be considered for a Grammy if it is released in a proper window. The band doesn't and shouldn't care about that but I think it's great timing and great opportunity for them to be visible and open themselves up to another generation of possible fans. As for that teaser in the clip, it seems like some joke or them messing around but I like the different sound. Something like that well executed and fully completed could really be a cool addition to the album. It's got a 60's vibe to it which is really true to Green Day's formula but I also think it's on par with some modern stuff too. Vaporwave, dead mall music and overall just chill trippy stuff (which often includes some psychedelic sounds and what not) is really growing and not to mention a lot of underground solo artists are spewing out a lot of psychedelic sounds and riffs. In my day our underground scene was all about pulling out distortion pedals, luckily those nu-metal ones went out of style quickly! Now there's a growth in space echos, delay pedals, wahs etc. You even hear psychedelics nuances in Billie Eilish's music which is probably the most mainstream artist that does that right now. I've always felt Green Day was somewhat mainstream but it's only because they were able to crossover several generations and counter-cultures. Mainstream rock fans like GD, Alt rock fans like GD, Classic Rock fans now like GD, Metal fans like GD, hell even rap fans like GD. Right now it may feel counter-culture is a thing of the past but it still exists in a more introverted chilled kind of way.
