No past events should ever be a baseline for the future. We're speculating because we're bored and have nothing else to go on. There is nothing, other than Billie saying 2023 (which I can confirm), to base this speculation on. That could mean January, but it could also mean December. We have no idea and what the band did for FOAM, RevRad, or Dookie has no bearing on what is going to be done for this next album. Marketing music these days is very different when compared to late 2019/early 2020, 2016, 2012, and 1994. Green Day's popularity and the lens in which people view them through is also very different. They're now more of a legacy act than a heart-throbbing punk rock group that is blasted all over Top 40 radio and Hot Topic and Claire's stores. When they want us to know something, they will make it incredibly clear. Until then, I think we should all go outside.6 points

Being gay rules, I would know. You know what else rules? Some of the teasers we've gotten, they should give us a little more of that! I don't necessarily need news, I just want them to drip feed me that sweet, sweet content.3 points

They've certainly upped their game since that one time I wanted to do some heavy reading on Simple Plan and it said "PAGE HAS BEEN DELETED DUE TO THE GAYNESS OF THIS BAND". Whoa, wikipedia. Whoa.3 points

I don’t think FOAM should be our baseline for any future Green Day releases.2 points

I know this one is postponed but for another time it's probably cheaper to fly from Milan to London (or Dublin) and then fly on to Los Angeles. Takes a bit longer but worth it. Flights for this weekend were particularly bad because it's Labor Day Weekend in the US Sure hope it's not a bad case of covid and whoever it is gets well soon1 point

Same. I hope whoever has it gets over it fast. I got it a few weeks ago it's no fun😭😭😭1 point

Fine but from the US perspective it doesn’t count to say we got club shows because we got the Coverups. This is about hearing Green Day deep tracks so lets compare apples to apples.1 point

Man, 1972 is gonna suck and it just doesn't feel like the band is excited about it. I miss the FOAM era1 point

Me too, now it will have to wait until all the Green Day shows are done in Sept/Oct1 point

My point is that, according to Wikipedia, album releases have never been more than 5 months after completion, with the exception of ¡TRÉ! 1039/Smoothed out Slappy Hours (compilation of 2 previously released EP's) Kerplunk (Released 3 months after completion) Dookie (4 months) Insomniac (5 months) Nimrod (3 months) Warning (5 months) American Idiot (5 months) 21st Century Breakdown (1 month) ¡UNO! (3 months) ¡DOS! (5 months) ¡TRÉ! (6 months) Revolution Radio (Exact month isn't listed but it says work started in 2014 and was completed in 2016) FOAM (1 month) Although the RevRad description doesn’t add up because Billie didn’t reveal they were in the studio until 2016. Unless maybe he recorded Ordinary World himself in late 2014 for the movie?1 point

Yeah there's been quite a lot of side project small shows in the US but small GD shows are much rarer unless you count the few that come prior to an album release and there really isn't much of a precedent for the Metro show (hardcore fans all over the world wished they could be there but there were only 1000 tickets). Costa Rica in 2010 was the longest show with rareties but was a stadium show and the band just went off script (nobody expected what happened) probably followed by the small Hall of Fame show in 2015 when Sweet Children opened for GD and then the Warfield when the Network opened. Good luck to you guys trying though. I was surprised there was only 1500 signatures1 point

It all depends on your definition of pop punk. Some considers pop punk any form of mainstream punk rock emerged from the 90’s punk rock revival. In this case Green Day definitely belongs here. Others use pop punk to define those 00’s bands born from the commercial success of 90’s punk rock bands, usually having an even more polished and accessible sound. In this case Green Day sits in a different bucket. There is a clear generational, musical and stylistic difference between Green Day and bands such as Sum 41 or Simple Plan, so if we really need to use labels, I think it’s fair to have different labels for them. That said Green Day developed a quite unique sound during the year (remember how easily a certain bunch of kids which rhymes with land trolled us by replicating it?), and in the last 15 years got heavily influenced by other genres, mainly power pop. So hard to answer.1 point

At this point I'd call them a punk influenced rock band1 point

I was in Cleveland yesterday and saw Tré's post as I was getting on the highway heading home. Goddammit. The Vault is the bar inside the hotel we stayed at for the rock hall induction! I told @JardyOfSuburbia that if it was Billie or Mike I probably would've turned around. Sorry Tré!1 point
