  1. How does this convince you? They've been posting nothing but old interviews recently, so this is just a continuation of that. I'm pretty sure this is from Turn It Around. I can't remember if it made the final cut, so it could be some extra footage.

  2. It's Mike's interview from the Turn it Around: East Bay Punk doc they put out back in 2017.

  3. Nimrod is a super special album for me, and it certainly helped them create a stable career after two albums that largely stayed in the confines of a certain sound. I'm extremely biased, but aren't we all? When it comes to music, I think that Nimrod, Warning, Idiot and Shenanigans are the greatest music ever made, period. (Maybe some FOAM too, but that's whole other topic :)) Nimrod was my starting point with Green Day. My mom and I heard Good Riddance on the way to middle school, and she ordered Nimrod for me through one of those catalogue where you could supposedly order 5000000000000 CD for 1 cent. I put that cd in my little blue boom box in my room and thought I was in for 18 tracks of sweet, acoustic ballads. I may have had a similar experience with Smash Mouth several months prior (Walking on the Sun does NOT prepare you for the punk rock onslaught of Fush Yu Mang) but Nimrod was different. Before Nice Guys Finish Last was over, I knew I had to find out everything there was to know about this Punk Rock stuff. It was transcendent. It instantly healed some of the bullied wounds from middle school. It understood the weird feelings about love and romance that I didn't understand at all. For a while, I had some other favorites. But my parents and I were hooked on Green Day, and I snagged Warning as soon as it was availibe. Then Superhits, and Shenanigans. Along with Nimrod, these albums convinced me to go back and get Insomniac, Kerplunk and 1039. Tracking those earlier ones down back then wasn't so easy for a kid, but I did it. I became obsessed with them during this time period and then it seemed like it was over before it had begun. The compilations were placeholders because the band were having issues, and burning out. Wouldn't it be strange if Shenanigans was the last we heard from Green Day? Would they have joined other bands? Got different jobs? And then the excited murmurs of greatness began. They had fought their demons and were working on something special. The rest is history. But yes. For me, it all starts with Nimrod - my introduction to punk and alternative music.

  6. I have thought this for a while. This record is flawless and it’s the start of Green Day really branching out and being brave with new sounds and styles. This record is why they’ve not just ended up as another 90’s punk rock band & instead a true rock and roll juggernaut that has rightly been inducted into the RnR hall of fame. Even the ‘deeper cuts’ are easily some of their best work, Haushinka, Jinx, All The Time, Worry Rock, Uptight, The Grouch, Scattered, Prosthetic Head, Redundant, Take Back, Reject, Platypus… I could go on and on. I feel like this record goes under the radar, people will always look to American Idiot and Dookie as their best bodies of work - both are incredible in their own way but Nimrod, damn, it covers everything that we love about these guys. It’s also them being daring and showing how great they are as musicians… These guys didn’t need Warped Tour or to hang out with all the Fat Wreck bands, instead they’ve cemented themselves in rock and roll royalty and history & this record epitomises that. I don’t know what more to say other than that this record is their true Magnum Opus.

  9. Maybe we’ll also get some B-Sides and covers, like that Beach Boys I Get Around cover that Billie accidentally leaked

  10. Maybe 1972 is the banner name of a project which is both an album of original music that sounds like artists that inspired them and also an origin story documentary in their own words.

  16. It's back in 2011 since Awesome As Fuck was released. I suppose there's not the remotest chance that along with a new studio album to celebrate the band members 50th birthday, a new live album would be included. With post covid issues and cost of living rocketing, and shittin myself over Ukraine and Taiwan, it would have been nice. I just crave Green Day live.

  17. It’s also one of my favorite tours to watch. Full of variety and songs we don’t hear anymore, Billie’s starting to become a performer and engage the audience more and it’s the last time they tour as just a trio.

  18. My theory/speculation is that 1972 is the title of a documentary AND of the lead single for a new album. Doc and single in late 2022, record in early 2023.

  19. Collaboration confirmed. Billie himself said in an interview in 2019 (I think) that Green Day is the OG KPop 😄

  27. Hope he's right but be aware that Billie's mom attended a lot of shows in those early years (and still does). You can hear her yelling out at the Cybelle's Pizza gig in 1991 (apparently Tre worked there) that's on You Tube for example. It could still easily be any other early show. But if it's something not already out there that would be great.

  28. Yeah someone from the TikTok thread pointed out that possibility, but I was going by what @Little Boy Named Booze said above, that he never saw this one before, anywhere

  29. Is this an old interview? Never saw this anywhere. If it's new then the documentary thing might be happening.

  30. It's so easy, download music to PC then on to moby (cell) and save to cloud. All your music at your fingertips wherever you may be. But, for some reason I decided to buy the CD version of BBC sessions. What would I have missed if I'd downloaded? One awesome insert by Steve Lamacq detailing each session, and some very surprising and hilarious antics that took place. Now a very important historical record of the band., as part of my treasured possessions.

  31. In Cuatro, I'm sure that Billie said 'Nimrod. Lyrical nightmare'. He mentioned taking the songs into the studio & having to write the lyrics in the studio. Anyway, personally i think the lyrics in Nimrod are his best work, by a longshot (no pun intended). We know he chops & changes his mind quite a lot too, i'm sure on another day he'll tell you how proud he is of the lyrics on that record. Guitar sounds, tones, bass & drum sounds, all sound perfect on this album. I love how clear the hats are from Tre. The songs really drive along because of this. Last Ride In is so perfect too, such a chill vibe.

  32. Nimrod is certainly one of their best! It's up there on my list of favorites, but I wouldn't call it the best.

  34. I am incapable of rating stuff but I adore Nimrod, listen to it as a whole album on a regular basis, it’s a brilliant album.

  35. I agree with everything that has been said here. Nimord is also my favorite album not just by GD but ever. Lyrically is flawless and incredibly honest, experimenting with new sounds and paving the way for Warning and AI sonically. Maybe it has to do with resonating with me at the time it came out, but many of my favorite songs come from that album. For me it’s peak Green Day sound and it’s the album that saparated them from the bunch and cemented my love for the band.

  36. I've been collecting CD since the early 90s, and yet in 2022 I've pumped the breaks. I have bought three cds and a few records this year, but nothing has wowed me with the packaging, and if there's nothing cool to look at inside, I need money for other things. I still go to the music shops, but that's mainly because I get a nice feeling from flipping through records.

  37. Actually, that's just an opinion. I've always considered them to be punk rock. I think the term pop punk is better reserved for bands like All Time Low, We The Kings, Simple Plan, Good Charlotte and Plain White Ts. All of these bands have a much more "approachable" or "friendly" sound than bands like Green Day. Yes, there's some pop punk influence in their overall sound, just like there's also power pop and garage rock but I think they've always had more in common when it comes to their attitude and sound with other punk rock bands, rather than pop punk bands.

  39. I think he would have said it in his last post. Seriously.

  40. In my eyes what happened was Green Day pretty much invented pop punk with Dookie, then as other bands (Blink 182 and everything similar that came after) were influenced by that and became popular they kind of developed the pop punk genre into it's own thing --meanwhile Green Day veered off course and continued to do whatever the fuck they wanted, releasing a folk punk album and then a punk rock opera for example. They're probably one of the most popular punk bands ever, so yeah - they're pop punk. But most of their music is actually pretty vastly different from most other music that you'd typically place under the 'pop punk' moniker.

  47. Green Day is Green Day I compare them to no other. And frankly I don’t give a sh** if they are pop punk or punk rock…. when a song sounds good a song sounds good. They have a lot of good sounds.
