Agreed. Regardless of any of the band member's ages, if they're going to call the album 1972 and it's going to be released when they want it to be released, then it's going to be called 1972 and it'll release when they want it released. I don't see what or why them apparently needing to be 50 at the time of release has to do with anything. If they want it to be a celebration of being 50, then they can simply say that the majority of the album was written and recorded while they were 50 and it's still a celebration of it.5 points

with the album title being possibly 1972, do you guys think they take a more "(deep) personal" approach with the new lp? foam was about "having fun" or whatever they wanted to achieve with it š the world became a total shit-place, so i wouldnt mind if they write an album about their life4 points

He seems to have vocally bumpier periods and other times heās very solid. There could be other factors than just training and lack thereof. Vocal cords can easily become strained etc3 points
-
If the way he sounded this summer is any indication, he probably did. I was surprised with how flawless his singing was.3 points
-
I wonder if Billie did any vocal training in the lead up to this? With some of The Network stuff his voice still clearly has the potential to sound as good as it has in the past, and since it seems like they're taking this one more seriously I'm thinking maybe that little extra effort could easily have been put in -- Have we still not had any teasers with actual lead vocal lines?3 points

More of a random GDC thought, but anytime I see a mod's name in the recently browsing part of a thread, I automatically think it means we must have done something wrong.3 points

Me too. Broken World was a collab with The Interrupters he gave them the melody idea and they wrote the lyrics.3 points

Speaking of collabs, Iād be interested to see what would happen if Billie had a writing partner3 points

10 alternative albums that are way better than you think Warning ā Green Day For all the pop-punk fans who were looking for Green Day to return to the sounds of Dookie, this felt like a slap in the face, with acoustic tunes influenced by classic rock. If weāre looking solely at the music, though, this might be the most experimental theyāve ever been, from the power-pop sounds of āWaitingā to āMisery.ā This might not be the most single-friendly Green Day album, but without āMinority,ā we probably wouldnāt have American Idiot as we know it today. https://www.altpress.com/dark-horse-alternative-albums-kendrick-lamar-bjork/3 points

When he first played the Careless Whisper thing in January 2017 it was cool and relevant because of the timing but I agree that now the moment for that has been and gone2 points
-
I really thought they were going there with all the stuff they did together for a while, the interview and photoshoot, meeting backstage and the ātwo Billiesā joke at the (I think) AMAs red carpet. A collab would be cool.2 points

Iāve been holding this take back ever since my show in June because I donāt want to bitch about what I consider a fun part of the show, but I just think Jasonās sax playing is very generic and he could do way more interesting things with this instrument. I get that heās doing the whole careless whisper etc thing to play with the clichĆ©, but at some point I felt like I was listening to elevator music. Iām not saying he should go full freejazz at a show at aims to be easy to get into, but he could get away with a lot more in this genre.2 points

I'd be interested to hear a song featuring the Billies (Joe and Eilish). She ventured into rock in "Happier Than Ever" the song so I think it could work well. And I believe marketing would be great with both having the same name.2 points
-
And it turned out pretty well! It could be interesting to do something like that for a Green Day song. He also cowrote with Rancid, Jesse Malin, Aaron for Pinhead Gunpowder and Angelica Houston but all of these songs were for other projects and sounded more like the other artistās stuff2 points

My predictions (not that Iāve got much right but it wonāt stop me from making predictions): 1st single in November, album in March, 13 songs on album.2 points

Iāve always thought BJ and P!nk might sound pretty good together but could be totally wrong.2 points

Yeah, he certainly knew about that Forever Now single. and that American Idiot movie. and that book the band were going to release. Ya know?2 points

Do you think weāll every have a Green Day track that features a guest vocalist or weāll see them do a proper duet with someone ? Is there any existing GD tracks that would have suited a special guest.. I was only listening to āEast Jesus Nowhereā the other day and thinking how awesome it would have been to have Sinead OāConnor singing on it. She would fit perfectly with the sentiment of the song and i think her voice would compliment BJās also. I think āOh Loveā would have made a great duet with Paul McCartney alsoā¦ To be fair there are so many songs BJ has written that could be sung with Paul. Anything else ?1 point

plus heās mentioned having asthma, that can have an influence too (and doesnāt mix well with smoking at all)1 point

Right?! Sheās funny, insightful and very vulnerable in her writing. Itās pretty simple and straighforward but clever and emotionally impactful. Iāve been a fan for years, but I think Stay Alive and Silverfish are really where she shines as a poet. (Or I donāt know, maybe listening to these albums just reignited the huge crush I have and theyāve been relatable to me.) Her solo show was incredibly moving as well. I think Laura doesnāt get the recognition she deserves as an artist. Coincidentally, I think on these recent albums she touches on similar topics BJA keeps coming back to. Thereās a lot about loneliness, feeling lost in life and looking for something to hold onto.1 point

Some of the best word play and emotional expression I've ever heard.1 point

Lately Iāve been listening to a lot of LJGās solo work. Sheās an incredible lyricist.1 point

Theyād have to tread carefully to make sure it wouldnāt be seen as cringe on BJAās part but Iād be excited1 point

I could handle Careless Whisper if the rest of what heās playing wasnāt as generic. It would work as a joke if he played it in the middle of some good impro, but it doesnāt really stand out from what heās playing. Iām glad iām not the only one whoās annoyed by that. I thought i got disproportionaly upset over it because of the weed i smoked before that show1 point

The real unpopular opinion is to love Christian's Inferno. I'm not sure why people like to pretend their popular opinions are unpopular.1 point

I wonder if itās even possible for a rock band to have a rennaisance in the current climate. I mean, gen z listened to master of puppets and now Metallica is canceled.1 point
-
They all seem to really care about every aspect of this record. It's really good to see. I'm glad they're using AI as a reference too because in terms of production and dynamics, it's gotta be one of if not the best quality album they've done. I'm keeping my expectations in check though. I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed again.1 point

More than accolades or popularity, I just want it to be good. I want the boys to surprise me, to move me emotionally, I want an album with gravitas. Something that I can live with and continue to listen to and think over. I want the album artwork to be, wellā¦ art (looking at you FOAM). I want an album that feels like it means something to the band itself.1 point
-
As much as I love this band, they are past their prime commercially and creatively and so I donāt think thereās a great chance they might get a Grammy nomination. Not that itās that much of a tragedy. Iām not sure how much awards even matter anymore.1 point

Those are obviously programmed drums, with little or no round robin. The person who did that should work more with MIDI velocities (especially on hihat) and overall choice of sound libraries if they want it to sound realistic. Nice try though.1 point

Wishful thinking. This album is more likely to be closer to RevRad than American Idiot. Which is fine if it's good, but I wouldn't get my hopes too high1 point
