My show recaps are often a collection of my thoughts throughout the gig and little details I picked up and things I noticed. So here goes. I left Madison at 7:30 in the morning and got to the venue by 10:00, good for #14 in line. When I got there, the majority of people ahead of me did not have tickets. Many had traveled from out of state. Even by the time doors opened, a few people ahead of me still did not have tickets and were going to try to plead once they got inside. Wisely, they moved out of the way to let some ticket holders by. There was no warm act and no hype song, although some members of the crowd sang Bohemian Rhapsody on their own which was amusing. Obviously the band deviated from the setlist after just two songs, with Billie calling Revolution Radio instead of KYE. I think that caught the band by surprise as Kevin rushed out from behind the cabs and onto the stage just in time. This would become a common theme throughout the set, with Billie either calling the next song after referencing the setlist or just seemingly deciding on his own. Earlier in the set, I think either just before or just after Longview, Billie called the next song to Tré and it was evident that Tré was trying to catch his breath - he mouthed to Billie “I’m tired!”. He was an absolute workhorse all night. I saw him taping a finger between songs - probably blisters. Tré drums hard. I’m pretty sure he added some new fills that I hadn’t heard before into a couple of songs. I thought the three song Kerplunk sequence would be my favorite moment of the show - that is, until Billie Joe tuned down his guitar and started Whatsername. I was completely in shock when they started it - no way in a million years did I ever think I would hear that song live. Interesting that it wasn’t on the printed setlist, so I wonder what inspired them to play it. Maybe it was always planned - we can only speculate. Billie was definitely red-eyed for most of the song, not unlike the BIAB performance of Wake Me Up When September Ends. A very, very emotional performance of Whatsername, one that I’ll never forget. They just kept playing and playing and playing! 10 songs in and it felt like they had been playing forever, just due to the sheer excitement and the unknown as to what would come next. It felt like it would never end. When Billie called out JAR, the gentleman who I believe to be the band’s head of security pulled a setlist out of his pocket and looked at it in confusion, as if to say “when will this end?”. That was a really funny moment that made me laugh out loud. And still two songs followed! I recorded Too Dumb To Die (my favorite from RevRad) and Church On Sunday, both of which I will post to YouTube and link here in this thread. Wow, what a show - I’m still trying to process it all. A dream setlist, one that probably won’t be topped anytime soon. This will go down as an all-time show for sure. Incredibly lucky and grateful to have witnessed it! Thanks for reading and feel free to ask any questions you may have.23 points

Guys. Please, for the love of God's Favorite Band, schedule some more of these shows across the U.S.! Random songs. Full songs. Half songs where you forget the lyrics. We'll sing them for you. You know we'll pay anything!20 points

Here's the post. Billie put it on Longshot and Losers Club14 points

Maybe unpopular opinion but I love Too dumb to die! So cool they played it!12 points

I mean… nice of the venue, but I feel that’s only fueling the entitlement lol. I said what I said. 💁♀️12 points

They were simply too tight to not have rehearsed most of these songs. Numbers like Murder City, Warning, and more were played nearly flawlessly. However, with Oh Love they really did just go for it - a fan held a sign requesting it, and Billie remarked that he didn’t remember it (or something to that effect) and asked Mike if he knew it, to which Mike responded that they could try it. I wish they would have seen it through! I shouted out Stay The Night when Billie asked for requests, and I’d like to think he heard me as he had his IEM out and was facing my direction. Of course they played Warning instead and the crowd went crazy for it! Contrary to what setlist.fm says right now, Revolution Radio, Church on Sunday, Too Dumb To Die, Scattered, Bang Bang, Chump, Private Ale, Christie Road, Geek Stink Breath, Stuck With Me, and Burnout were indeed on the written setlist, but most were played out of order. Billie was just calling out songs to the band. Paper Lanterns, 2000 Light Years Away, Armatage Shanks, and FOD were on the written setlist but not played.10 points

Honestly this set is incredible for Church on Sunday alone.10 points

Yeah I don’t know what to believe. From what I see on Instagram it’s some of the same people who seem to be front and center at literally every show I go to. Like, I get that the venue thought they were doing a nice thing (if it did happen) but it gets old after a while. The fan base can really ruin the concert experience. Shows are all about proving who’s the biggest superfan and trying to get the band’s attention. Last show I went to a girl shoved me aside even though I got to the barrier before her and declared “I was here at 5am!!!” like the spot had her name on it. Well, that’s your own stupid fault.10 points

BTW, apologies for the formatting. I’m looking online for footage while on my phone. I’m off to bed since it’s like 7am here and news seems to have stopped coming out of the show, hoping to wake up to a few more deep cuts and get through as many videos as possible from this thing. Enjoy guys8 points

I don’t think we’re gonna hear a new song tonight — but we’re gonna hear every other song they’ve ever written 🥺8 points

Oh god, don’t even get me started on the Longshot show I went to where crazy fans jumped on stage and grabbed the mic and started singing. Then when people realized there was no barrier or security, they all had to rush the stage for their forced “moment” with Billie and take selfies and act like it was something genuine. I came to hear him sing, not watch you make an idiot of yourself.8 points

There's so many entitled fans in this fanbase, it drives me absolutely nuts. I don't give a shit how many times you've seen them live, you're not more important than anyone else. If this is going to become a common trend there's clearly no point to lining up anymore (not that I plan to do it anymore in the first place - waste of time).8 points

Bang Bang live is something every fan should get to experience. Seeing then open with/debut it in Columbus is one of my favorite GD concert moments.8 points

Damn, even at a small show they're sticking Kevin behind the amps? I'm at the Chipotle and Ben and Jerry's stage of grief over not getting a ticket now.8 points

If they took the time to rehearse all these songs, please, please, please play them more than once. Make the most out of it goddamnit!7 points

I'm so used to the live version of Minority that whenever I hear the studio version, I sing ''a free for all, fuck em all, jump jump, let's go!"7 points

Am I the only one that sings “On my own here we go” out loud whenever I watch a live version of Brain Stew on video? It’s like a Pavlovian response I can’t help it 😂7 points

Oh Love was such a Trilogy tease. Sad that’s as close as we got to a trilogy song. He should have done Stay the Night at least we know he knows it7 points

I watched the first livestream until it ended after One Of My Lies and it was awesome! I did notice Billie going to the second mic next to the drum set after each song and speaking into it. I guess that was one of those microphones that can only be heard by the other band members and is used to communicate. Which makes sense now, given the seemingly random and not according to the setlist songs they played tonight - that's awesome! They could keep their signature setlist for festivals (I mean it makes sense) and literally keep tonight's setlist for every other show they play. People would go nuts. Feels so fresh, almost out of place... in a good way. Edit: I wonder if they literally just tried some of the songs... I've heard about troubles with lyrics at certain points, maybe they didn't really rehearse these songs and just went for it. I'm pretty sure the fanbase wouldn't mind if this would become a regular thing with certain deep cuts lol.7 points

Sources say they played Fire, Ready, Aim on loop for the last 30 mins7 points

I’m honestly impressed Billie could pull that setlist off, considering he still uses written lyrics for RocknRoll All Nite.6 points

It does disappoint me that it seems like unless you dedicate like 48 hours to going to a show, these super fans will always beat everyone out. I never got to experience an intimate Green Day show before. Admittedly, I have been to 5 of their concerts since I became a fan, but those were all in large arenas where I don't feel like I am taking the opportunity away from others to see the band. I don't want to sound entitled here. I know that we all would want to see Green Day whenever we can, but I do feel like if you have seen a band like GD front and center in many of these small shows, maybe give some other people a chance. It seems like such a magical experience, and I do hope I can experience it someday. Also, does anyone remember Billie addressing these kinds of fans who are always front row at the small shows? I think he said it during a Longshot/Coverups show.6 points

Yeah, I don't like it either. People will definitely start doing that/expecting it for any other club shows they might announce this year and I'm already annoyed thinking about it, hahaha. But oh well, not my problem.6 points
-
Agreed — line campers are already crazy enough (and I say that as a former line camper). It just makes everyone sleep deprived and angry and dehydrated when the show starts and shit like this just sets a ridiculous precedent. The venue might think it’s a crazy/unusual act of dedication but it’s just par for the course for this fan base.6 points

The setlist was insanee, we need a *Deep Cuts* tour. For the next intimate show, fans need to print some lyrics to give to Billie Joe on stage when he ask for requests.5 points

Well, good to know next time Green Day has a surprise show, all I have to do is fly in the day before and camp out and beg to be put on the guest list/expect someone to come up with a ticket for me. In all seriousness though, hope everyone has a great time! Super excited to see the set list.5 points
