Billie said in an interview during a 21CB interview that H&H was written about 5 years ago which would've been 03/04. So the song on that CD is probably the same song. Not to say that it's the same version of the song obviously, there were most likely changes to the song when it was recorded for 21CB, probably including the G-L-O-R-I-A at the end to reference the character of Gloria on the album which probably wouldn't have been there in 20046 points

I remember Billie Joe said that he‘s writing a lot (especially during lockdown) and recording demos at their small studio. Would make sense and bring these demos to recording studio with Rob and change a little bit here and there and working on them. But I can‘t see writing full songs during the whole recording sessions. It used to be expensive back then so I dont wanna know what they really pay these days for doing a record 🤷♂️5 points

From Mike Pelino - techincally a member of the band was back up. mike.pelino Nadine wants a Bullet in a Bible poster for her birthday. I had to order one off EBay. I got it, framed it, flipped it over and THEN saw the little note from the seller.4 points

There's also an image of an American Idiot B-Sides reference cd from John Roecker that was dated in 2004. Unless they only took the name... who knows4 points

There’s a bunch of interviews about it from that time period where Billie and Butch talked about it - I’m sure it got a mini facelift but the 90% was in their vault4 points

If they’re working this hard on the album, (they haven’t worked in studios and with producers of this caliber in quiiiiite some time), it’s probably likely that they want to do a proper album rollout - which means that there’s probably not going to be a sudden release sandwiched between a lot of shows. Just a guess, but it really seems like they’re doing this right3 points

Yeah, it's unrealistic to see a song process from start to finish. It would just be neat. The most interesting part to me would be the actual recording of all the separate parts of it. To be fair, I feel like I'm a little out of touch too and I'm only 30. My friends peer pressured me into getting SnapChat today so we can plan one of their bdays this Saturday (two of them are out of the country and it works internationally without being charged) and I was just like "I hate this app! Make it go away!"3 points

Could have sworn I read somewhere that Stop Drop and Roll was written in one drunken night.3 points

Posted about that in the Instagram thread. It refers to a t-shirt design that’s all. So I think they’re done now with this record. Billie went to London and now the tour starts in a week and the TikToks have stopped. My guess is they’ll announce this album when the tour ends in July2 points

I really like Fire Ready Aim, but I just cannot unhear "stick a hammer in your bum." It gets more stuck, not less, the more I hear it...2 points

I remember Billie saying they started playing around with the Horseshoes and Handgrenades riff shortly after the AI tour, so who knows what the actual timeline of that song looks like.2 points

I thought it was just recorded like that, not necessarily all written on that night.2 points

The track time runs longer on 21CBD but who’s to say it’s the same song, a new song or they idea of it is there but it’s redone. Interesting. Thanks for sharing this.2 points

Me too. I had a number of links book marked there. So many times when someone asks about a picture, I'm like, I know exactly to find that, but...2 points

They're cocky enough to announce it on America's birthday with the title '1776'. Cover bears a resemblance to this:1 point

Been doing a deep dive on the Trilogy lately and I forgot what a fucking banger Dirty Rotten Bastards is! The song seems lackluster in my memory but when I heard it recently I was like damn this song is great!1 point

Unsure of the source but definitely knew about that song being from the C&V era before John posted that CD1 point

How is it known that Horseshoes and Handgrenades wasn’t written during the 21CBD timeframe and was an old song from the C and V vault?1 point

Wow that‘s an interesting fact. I thought RHS was part of a fully thought-out concept because of the strong connection between ¿Viva La Gloria? and RHS 😄1 point

Yeah he just said there were a ton of lyrics for all the songs in that session and it was a nightmare having to write some at the last minute in the studio. He vowed he wouldn’t go into the studio without lyrics again. But he broke that vow at least once, because he was working on the 21CB songs right up until the last minute. He didn’t have lyrics for RHS until Butch made him write them because he wanted to include the song.1 point

How about The Simpsons Theme Song With Lyrics! I think that would be fabulous hit single! Green Day are being all nostalgic this time around, so it is logical that they could call back to some older stuff. Knowing them, any and callbacks will be to Idiot or Dookie, because those are the only albums they remember in 2022, haha! The singles are untouchable from both, impossible to top. So perhaps sequels to the deep cuts, and make them into smash hits. Let's see: I'm Still Burning Out! (Burn Out 2) The Waiting Unknown (Are We the Waiting 2) and the hilarious 16 Rock N Roll Girlfriends. (Homecoming 2)1 point

Didn‘t Billie just say that he doesn‘t want to go to the studio without lyrics? I think it‘s pretty normal to change certain melodies or add some extra instruments during the recording process1 point

Maybe... I don't think I know enough of them to really be able to judge what they're like personally. If I were to guess, I'd say they're way less in tune with the zeitgeist than they used to be, but that might only make for an even more interesting documentary1 point

You’re never going to see the songwriting process in the studio because during ¡CUATRO!, Billie was talking about the Nimrod sessions and says, “After that, I said I would never bring an unfinished song into the studio ever again.”1 point

I love all the pictures from this show. Billie looked absolutely perfect! There are one or two I've seen in passing, but haven't managed to ever find again. I'm sad I didn't download them when I had the chance. It's hard to find a collection of all of the shots from that GMA performance. That's why I miss the GDA photo section so much. Everything was right there and easy to find because it was organized by era and event.1 point

I mean, I don't really think the actual members do for the most part. It's the management and record label PR that's out of touch. I would love to follow the life of a song from start to finish in the studio. I want to know what the writing of it's like, how it evolves, and how all the individual vocal and instrument parts are recorded and put together. Mostly I just want to be a fly on the wall for Billie recording his vocals. That's just so interesting to me idk why. I wonder how many takes he typically does, or if he does it in one go, does different parts at different times etc. All of this is the documentary I wish we could get.1 point

I crave more studio/band life documentation almost more than new music! Isn’t that crazy!? Nope! Quattro was a master stroke! And we fans were depraved of stroking during the making of 21cb. Maybe, one day, will we feel the release of that master stroke, but, for now, all we can hope for is a collection of tik toks, road blocks, bottle rockets, and gym socks. The gates of 1972 await…1 point

I've noticed that almost all the more modern Green Day songs with vocal "harmony" are just Billie's voice layered on top of itself (or it sounds like it). I love his voice and I think that's great, but I really miss his true harmonies with Mike, where Billie sings the melody and Mike does the harmony. That really can't be beat. Songs that come to mind for an example are Word's I Might Have Ate and Haushinka. Such beautiful harmonies in those! I hope they'll give that a try again.1 point
