  1. I mean, I don't really think the actual members do for the most part. It's the management and record label PR that's out of touch. I would love to follow the life of a song from start to finish in the studio. I want to know what the writing of it's like, how it evolves, and how all the individual vocal and instrument parts are recorded and put together. Mostly I just want to be a fly on the wall for Billie recording his vocals. That's just so interesting to me idk why. I wonder how many takes he typically does, or if he does it in one go, does different parts at different times etc. All of this is the documentary I wish we could get.

  2. Yep. I doubt a wireless mic pack would be allowed on/near an artist in the studio due to the potential impact on recording equipment and instruments.

  3. First he was confused by the ball. Then he got mad at the ball.

  4. Here Comes The Shock definitely was but I don't think Pollyanna and Holy Toledo were FOAM outtakes. Pollyanna seems too lyrically relevant to the world opening back up when it was released, and Holy Toledo seems like it was written specifically for the movie it was featured in.

  6. So two F1 events in October — one in Singapore and one in Texas. Weird schedule

  7. Didn‘t Billie just say that he doesn‘t want to go to the studio without lyrics? I think it‘s pretty normal to change certain melodies or add some extra instruments during the recording process

  8. I crave more studio/band life documentation almost more than new music! Isn’t that crazy!? Nope! Quattro was a master stroke! And we fans were depraved of stroking during the making of 21cb. Maybe, one day, will we feel the release of that master stroke, but, for now, all we can hope for is a collection of tik toks, road blocks, bottle rockets, and gym socks. The gates of 1972 await…

  9. yeah I'm 24 and got called a boomer by a younger co worker cus i said 90s alt is my favorite genre lmfao Also I'm predicting that this thread will be on page 302 before 1972 is officially announced

  10. Maybe... I don't think I know enough of them to really be able to judge what they're like personally. If I were to guess, I'd say they're way less in tune with the zeitgeist than they used to be, but that might only make for an even more interesting documentary

  11. Holy shit I didn’t see that!!! Good eye!!!!

  12. And they also recorded Murder City at the last minute.

  13. Yeah he just said there were a ton of lyrics for all the songs in that session and it was a nightmare having to write some at the last minute in the studio. He vowed he wouldn’t go into the studio without lyrics again. But he broke that vow at least once, because he was working on the 21CB songs right up until the last minute. He didn’t have lyrics for RHS until Butch made him write them because he wanted to include the song.

  14. How about The Simpsons Theme Song With Lyrics! I think that would be fabulous hit single! Green Day are being all nostalgic this time around, so it is logical that they could call back to some older stuff. Knowing them, any and callbacks will be to Idiot or Dookie, because those are the only albums they remember in 2022, haha! The singles are untouchable from both, impossible to top. So perhaps sequels to the deep cuts, and make them into smash hits. Let's see: I'm Still Burning Out! (Burn Out 2) The Waiting Unknown (Are We the Waiting 2) and the hilarious 16 Rock N Roll Girlfriends. (Homecoming 2)

  15. Billie could have done stuff at his home studio with no time limit.

  16. I disagree with this - writing in the studio is a hugely expensive idea, and GD isn’t working with a label budget like they used to

  17. The process has changed drastically though just with the accessibility of tools in the past 11 years, it’s pretty rare these days for a band to go into a studio with songs fully written just to be tracked and done.

  18. You’re never going to see the songwriting process in the studio because during ¡CUATRO!, Billie was talking about the Nimrod sessions and says, “After that, I said I would never bring an unfinished song into the studio ever again.”

  19. I love all the pictures from this show. Billie looked absolutely perfect! There are one or two I've seen in passing, but haven't managed to ever find again. I'm sad I didn't download them when I had the chance. It's hard to find a collection of all of the shots from that GMA performance. That's why I miss the GDA photo section so much. Everything was right there and easy to find because it was organized by era and event.

  20. From Green Day Jason White and Kevin (have only included bits of his Instagram story with pics of him)

  22. They do for these big show rehearsals with the full band. They didn’t start wearing in ears until after the AI tours I believe

  23. Not sure if this was mentioned either in regards to a potential documentary - Billie is wearing a wireless microphone that’s strung through his shirt. Doubt that’s for just the TikTok

  24. I just love his chins in this. And the way he's looking at that ball.

  25. I feel like "boomer" has come to mean to a lot of people that it's just an older, out of touch person and that's just not true. Like you said, they are all 100% Gen X.
    2 points
  26. I agree with you but they're really not boomers lol, they're solid generation x. They're like 10 years too young to even be the youngest of boomers.

  27. I'm just watching David Letterman's My Next Guest Needs no Introduction where he interviews Billie Eilish (it's a new season of the show on Netflix) and she mentions she loves Green Day. David's response: "Green Day (laugh)! They used to be on our show and I was scared silly of the drummer." Billie Eilish: "You were?" (Laughing) David: "Yeah. Because at the end of every song the drummer would, like, throw his drums everywhere and come running over like he was going to choke me out. And I would have to go racing away. But I admired the energy of that. I thought 'sure, why not this?'" Billie: "I love Green Day" And that's how you make an impression that's gonna last forever, kids! 😂

  28. There's also an image of an American Idiot B-Sides reference cd from John Roecker that was dated in 2004. Unless they only took the name... who knows

  29. There’s a bunch of interviews about it from that time period where Billie and Butch talked about it - I’m sure it got a mini facelift but the 90% was in their vault

  30. Ngl I never expected any of these to surface... but I was obviously wrong lol People have some pretty awesome things... never would've expected earlier songs to surface. It's kinda surprising how many songs from the last decade haven't leaked tbh

  31. They recorded Pollyanna after FOAM and is about the pandemic/life after lockdown. i doubt they will release/announce a new song during the tour . Maybe after the whole Hella Mega tour with a release date and an upcoming tour short after album release like they did with RevRad.

  32. So apparently there are a bunch of Nimrod rarities! We have Allison, now we need Tony the Tiger…

  33. I’m prob less optimistic that we get it before HM at this point. Big gaps in July and august though

  34. That was the day Mike gave it to him. Billie's wearing the same clothes he had on at the soundcheck photo they posted. It was the same day

  35. That was the day they were doing the soundcheck for the Superbowl show so that's why they had their IEMs on. Kevin has his on too.

  36. Didn’t know wether or not it was that - I considered it too. Im sure there’s some timeline matching we can do for what they were doing during his birthday. What made me say mic and not monitors was I’m not sure if they wear monitors during band rehearsal in the studio. Sure a closer look at the teasers or even looking at HLAHG or Cuatro could give that context

  37. hmm interesting point, but I thought this LP was going to be released independently? I’d admittedly have to get used to buying albums released by Green Day themselves rather than Warner. Bit of a change

  38. Interesting little thread I found on twitter. tl;dr, Halsey's record company and apparently many others don't let artists release anything unless they market it + it gets viral on tiktok. Could explain why Green Day is just making tiktoks these days and not crossposting to IG or twitter.

  39. Maybe 1972 is the documentary, and they're just making the record for themselves and not releasing it.

  40. I've noticed that almost all the more modern Green Day songs with vocal "harmony" are just Billie's voice layered on top of itself (or it sounds like it). I love his voice and I think that's great, but I really miss his true harmonies with Mike, where Billie sings the melody and Mike does the harmony. That really can't be beat. Songs that come to mind for an example are Word's I Might Have Ate and Haushinka. Such beautiful harmonies in those! I hope they'll give that a try again.

  41. All of the Late Show Tré appearances are absolutely priceless! I love the one where he falls off his drum kit or something and Letterman is like "Are you okay, son?"

  42. Honestly the hand claps and the falsetto were the least of my issues with FOAM. I think its hilarious how some folks fixate on that as the major issue with the project. No.
    1 point
  43. How much falsetto will be on the album, THAT is the question. I would be heartbroken if the clapping got scaled back, but high pitched Billie is a MUST. And he actually does it throughout the catalogoue, not just on the masterful FOAM.

  44. There will be a livestream for Rock am Ring on „RTL plus“ in Germany for free 🥰

  45. The hand claps will be different this time. Tre has rubber gloves on, that's like hand claps with heavy distortion 😆
