I’m pretty sure that 1985 date is just the time and date on that equipment’s system, and they aren’t bothered to set it.9 points

Wasn’t Tre supposed to come out in January and when the tour got canceled they moved it up to December to give the fans something? I agree December 23 seems like an odd release date so close to Christmas when the industry is probably shut down and since the 1985 date appears to be random I’m going to assume Dec 23 is too.5 points

I have heard from a very unreliable source that they heard from a very reliable source that we will be getting an announcement… in September. With an EP to follow in February.5 points

Just got an email from Green Day that has this to say about the Oakland Coffee subscriptions: The new subscription includes coffee for the year, first dibs on a special numbered edition of our next vinyl that’s coming featuring a special color for Oakland Coffee Club subscribers (more on that from them soon).4 points

December 23rd 1985 Birthday: Harry Judd, British drummer (McFly), born in Chelmsford, United Kingdom and Luke O'Loughlin, Australian actor, born in Adelaide, Australia Death: James Vance (20) and Raymond Belknap (18) attempt suicide (Belknap dies). Their families later sue rock group Judas Priest for subliminal messages in song "Better By You, Better Than Me". It was a Monday. Is this info relevant? No. Am I happy to have showed it to you? Yes.4 points

But Stewart and Lord Alge aren't even working with Green Day. Green Day's screen says Rob Cavallo, Chris Dugan, and Mark Aguilar. Same software maybe?3 points

December 23rd is a Friday this year, which is when new music typically gets released. Maybe it’s a release date. Or maybe it means nothing. Kinda hard to tell with them.3 points

The Oakland Coffee site has more detailed info: "Get first dibs on a special numbered edition of our next Green Day vinyl*. Yep. You read that right. There's an (extra-rare) Green Day vinyl coming, featuring a special color for Oakland Coffee Club subscribers. On top of that, Annual Subscribers get priority access to 500 numbered vinyl. More details coming soon." It seems to be an old recording being released, just like the bbc sessions2 points

We don't know that. CLA is a mixing engineer; his work is typically done post studio, whereas Dugan etc. are present in studio with the band.2 points

Sadly it's what most people want to see especially these big Hella Mega dates. Not us on here obviously but probably 90% of the crowd2 points

What if the album is a concept album following someone through different periods of their life (seemingly in 13 year increments), 1972, 1985, 1998, 2011 with each era being recorded using tech available at the time? We've only heard of them recording the first part and now being teased the second?2 points

So this project looks pretty fucken interesting Obviously they've gone analogue Wonder if they'll do a Foo Fighters and include a bit of the original tape with the purchase of a CD2 points

The only number that you can't return from is 86, and even that one is debatable. Green Day aren't even 86'd from Gilman anymore, ya know? This 1985 date is rather interesting. I'm going to ask 2 month old me if he remembers any Green Day or Sweet Children activity going on back then..... No. No he doesn't. Maybe 1972 has been so long in the making that its being called 1985 now, which would be awesome for those of us born in 1985. Or maybe Black Crowes beat them to the 1972 name and they are ticked off. A color band rivalry? Days beat Crowes, hands down. Or like we discussed before, maybe each song will be a different year or date.2 points

If you listen closely, you can hear some music playing in the background!! Something from 1972 maybe?!?!?2 points

I was giving an overview of the whole recording process because the person didn’t know2 points
-
the recording process I know and understand, just the word 'tracking' that got me confused... just a language issue, no big deal The really must have changed their plans if they are now recording at Ocean Way. May a Foo Fighters type of album with songs recorded in different places. Would be really cool a multi part album, with different themes and sounds spanning their carreer2 points
-
I'm speculating, but assuming that TikTok from a few days ago wasn't old, that was likely Tré tracking (recording) his drum parts. There are a lot of different ways to do this, but a lot of time the order of operations for tracking finals is drums, bass, guitar, and then vocals. So Tré's parts may be done and now Mike is tracking his bass parts against Tré's drums.2 points

I'm pretty sure my dad has something that could read a floppy. Better get everything in place or you won't get to hear the new songs, guys! I gotta get an 8 track player and I'll be ready for anything.1 point

No, just speculating like we all are, but it was interesting that it was something it said the band was going to announce soon. So it's something that merits an announcement. Sounds bigger than just a new release of an old album when there are no major anniversaries this year.1 point

looking at their latest setlists, it seems like they completely dodge their recent 10 years of their career, with 21stCB being the latest LP they play a song for their set ... thats kinda sad1 point
-
Yeah not sure if it meant anything specific other than the fact that they’ve been focused on nostalgia for some time now, probably since RevRad really, that’s when with songs like Outlaws and TDTD I noticed them looking back more than looking forward. Musically FOAM looks back. So they’re still doing that particularly here with the 1972, turning 50 and growing up in the eighties thing. Both FOAM (album art) and 1972 (studio) are looking back to American Idiot.1 point

Tré's birthday is December 9th (which is also a Friday), the last of the 3 members birthdays so it makes sense if December is when we get the singles and album. We might get a single on December 9th and the album release on the 23rd. I still don't know what the 1985 is referring to. The band didn't form until 1987 Although I feel like December is a weird time to release, especially 2 days before Christmas. Tré! was released in December but that was early December and it was supposed to release in November before it was delayed. But the album would have to release in 2022 to meet the whole 1972 / 50 years old theme I imagine some people might be disappointed that if the release is December that it'll still be another 7 months before we hear the album, or even a single but I'm fine with it. For a project as big as this one seems to be, I'm expecting them to take their time and make sure it's an album that people remember fondly1 point

As I said, I'm speculating. The TikTok video, Mike's photo, now the video from Tré. I don't think it's that big of a stretch.1 point

I thought that was a sign they were rehearsing for the tour at this point. Kevin started posting about counting down to the tour so I assumed they were back rehearsing.1 point

I don’t think they would feel obligated to make an album based on fan critic considering Warning wasn’t as well received and they didn’t go back to their 90s style that was the well received at the time. Instead they eventually reinvented themselves and created an album and sound that was evolved, new, and fresh. If they are going big I would hope they will try to once again evolve their sound.1 point

I would think that quarantine in 2020 gave Billie plenty of time to write new music1 point

Cavalier Cavallo is the George Martin of GD! It’s gonna be worth the wait!1 point

Got AI vibes😅. Like 1972 master tapes have been "stolen" and they decided do something new. Looks similar.1 point

GDC is dead right now. Green Day killed it with their stupid teasing strategy.1 point

@letsdanceon thanks for sharing this with us and I understand (I think) all your emotions but I have to say that I really believe Billie is a really intelligent man, he knows when fans are sincere even if, or maybe especially when, they are falling apart. I feel certain that he sees the true emotions in a genuine fan’s face and totally understands that bald “thanks” to mean what it does. He is a genuine music fan himself so I‘m sure he knows, he’ll also have seen so much fawning that he’ll be able to tell the difference. I nearly sobbed (again) reading this. 💕💕1 point
