  1. Green Day has always been a very reactionary band. 1972 will certainly be informed by the response to FOAM, just like Rev Rad was informed by the response to the trilogy, and like Insomniac was informed by the response to Dookie. It's not necessarily a bad thing.

  2. It's struck on EVERY Green Day or Green Day related release in my opinion. I'm talking specifically that thing about Idiot. The events leading up to Mike being alone with his coffee (perhaps inspiring Oakland Coffee as well).....the thing that made Billie cry at the end of the recording process. Idiot had a higher power guiding it or something.

  3. I would think that quarantine in 2020 gave Billie plenty of time to write new music

  4. Not gonna lie, part of me is kind of concerned about all this. Like, yeah everything sounds good. But idk if this is just a "Well people didn't like FOAMF, I guess we need to do an AI type album now, we gotta get Rob back in here and do what people expect of us" kind of deal and if it is, my worry would be that this is damage control & they've not really been inspired to make an album like this I don't want Billie to think he can't make any album that has a Foxboro or trilogy kind of sound without everyone hating it and I don't want them to feel obligated to make another AI if they don't want to. Now I'm not saying that I think this is what's happening. It is very likely that they just want to make an album like this now. And I don't think the band has ever really cared about what other people think. But this is just something that I'm a bit concerned about. Especially since FOAM was only 2 years ago. I hope they're not rushing into anything

  5. That would be highly unlikely, at least in the eyes of the mainstream. It could still turn out to be an album we love

  6. I don’t think they would feel obligated to make an album based on fan critic considering Warning wasn’t as well received and they didn’t go back to their 90s style that was the well received at the time. Instead they eventually reinvented themselves and created an album and sound that was evolved, new, and fresh. If they are going big I would hope they will try to once again evolve their sound.

  7. I don’t know if its ok to post this, but f**k it… I got my hands on the unreleased outtake Alison (Elvis Costello Cover) from the Nimrod Sessions. It is from a bootleg 7inch record, which unfortunately skips a bit. But it is definitely GD, as you can tell. Crazy to hear after 25 years. If it is ok w GDC I will rip the full song. I also will be posting an unreleased alternate unmastered remix of Redundant from 1998. No.. its not the Richard Dodd wide mix. I’m calling it the “Warning mix” since it is less distorted and more stripped down like Warning - the album. There is no second guitar, and the mix has more presence on the acoustic guitar, tambourine, and overdubs. It sounds less chunky and something that’d fit in more so on Warning rather than Nimrod. I imagine it was an early mix before it was finished - but why it is labeled as 1998 makes me curious as to why it was mixed like this after the album release…. More to come. 8. If they’re not competing with Foo Fighters they have a decent shot. Who’s left in the field?

  9. I mean it has for Green Day…Dookie…AI…we’re looking for lighting to strike 3 times…and that’s a charm

  10. It’s like they got lost in a creative twillight zone where they go from making the trilogy to trying to come back to their 2000s era and it’s been repeating for the last 10 years… I still enjoy their recent music, but there’s something so sad about it, you know, it’s like something broke and it can’t come back together.

  11. Cavalier Cavallo is the George Martin of GD! It’s gonna be worth the wait!

  12. Maybe it's both damage control and what they feel inspired to do. Even at their gnarliest, these guys aim to please fans and want the whole world to be fans.

  13. My prediction is we’ll get a single in the summer and the album in the fall, probably September or October

  14. You could say the same thing about Rev Rad after the trilogy (minus Rob). Ultimately it comes down to whether you feel like it’s coming from a genuine place.

  17. Is this actually a bootleg? It's obviously not from Warner, but pressing only 20 copies makes me think someone in/around the band was making these as a gift (ala The Boo 7"). Seems like bootleggers would either press more copies and/or release it on CD if they were trying to make money. Since these songs weren't circulating AFAIK, there can't be THAT many people who had access to them. The fact that it was sold at Tower Records in SF also makes me think it was someone around the band. I have no proof, but the more I think about it the stranger the random bootleg angle seems. Edit: Who is Chaz Wentworth??

  20. I see it listed in several places but I can't find any information on where his Oscar win supposedly came from. Anywhere that lists his awards only lists the Grammy's and the only movie he worked on was Rent in the sound department. The sound department for that film was nominated for outstanding sound by the "Satellite Awards" but didn't win. It had no Oscar nominations. Edit: Figured it out I think, it was his father Robert (Bob) Cavallo who was a producer on the Purple Rain movie. Prince won an Oscar for best original song on that one.

  23. This is more like the lead up to the Trilogy. They posted studio videos on Youtube every week that year

  24. I was thinking that the only difference between this pre era and revrad is the video teasers. I mean, they teased us with the revrad hashtag like... 8 months or something? And I remember they finished the record on June of that year. So be patient, easily they could drop an album by Sept or Oct.

  27. Looking at screenshots Billie has black nail polish on like he did at Shaky Knees so maybe it’s new? Yeah, they have multiple studios that they own for making demos and rehearsing. You use someone else’s professional studio when you’re ready to record. But it looks like they’re recording this album in spurts, with a selection of songs in various locations. Who knows if they’re even done yet?

  28. Got AI vibes😅. Like 1972 master tapes have been "stolen" and they decided do something new. Looks similar.

  29. I know where this was extracted. A few days ago a person was auctioning this 7 inch on eBay. In the end the person won the auction for a high price. Here is the link where this appears. https://www.ebay.es/itm/294922984521 Info: This is a super rare Green Day 7" 45rpm record makes the perfect gift for the ultimate Green Day collector or fan! Purchased from Tower Records San Francisco back in 2006 and has been kept in MINT condition in storage. Hand-numbered (15 out of 20) Side 1 features an acoustic cover of the 1977 Elvis Costello hit 'Alison' and Side 2 features the full band version with Green Day as well as an acoustic live version with Elvis Costello himself.
