Wow that came unexpected. Which stage of the recording process is represented by red hair? š13 points
-
The one where they make the greatest album of their career. Heās never done red before because the band knew their best was yet to come. Dare I say it may be their magnum opus?12 points

The whole public perception of the band and the trilogy changed after the iHeart Radio incident. There was a lot of hype and critical acclaim before shit hit the fan. It absolutely would have been received better if things went as planned.8 points

Cavallo is back. Billie's hair is red. American Idiot Pt. 2 confirmed! The marketing process.8 points
-
But wasnāt Rob with them recently in the UK? Could be joining now for mixing sessions. Or maybe they were just demoing in the UK and are now starting recording. Who knows! Maybe the band will keep us up to date on socials this time around.8 points

And here is the link: Or "Rob Cavallo tries to get into a really low riding car"8 points

I wish 1972 or whatever its name is have/not have: Not less than 12 songs. At least 1 ballad. No claps on any of the songs An epic 7 minute song and the most important: no razor blades/fever blisters/pro queen or whatever of those things on the lyrics... Well GD, do what you want, I will love you anyway š7 points

The amount of shit Billie/the band received after iheart was completely disproportional to the offence and unfair, but the albums could have been executed better. Those songs always worked way better live and it just didnāt translate into the records so well.6 points

I keep thinking that the Trilogy would've been a smash hit if it weren't for Billie's iHeart Radio incident, rehab, and lack of promotion as a result. Oh Love got a lot of radio play that summer!!!6 points
-
I think promotion may still be months away if they are just completing recording. Anyway, anyone have any thoughts on what made them go back to Rob as opposed to trying another new producer? My thinking is Rob is the only one they trust to tell them the truth when something is great and when something sucks and they know they need to hear that right now. I suspect that while they liked Walker on a personal level, he probably gave an enthusiastic yes to everything they did and didn't dare be honest enough with them.6 points

Just seeing Rob again makes me hyped, I don't care what color Billie's hair is (just don't shave it off!)6 points

It is, it feels right. Heās their George Martin they need him to find their way back to something special. I would love to know the conversation that happened when that decision went down.6 points
-
You know, I feel they're were very nostalgic about all this 1972 thing that they thought why not bring Rob to be part of it. He is the man who has been almost in all GD career, who produced their best records, so I'm glad he's back.5 points

Ya'll are still too attached to the old ways of doing things. For a better idea of possibilities look at Weezer's OK Human or SZNS project. Releases officially announced with a single just a week or so before the album drops. Also, if Billie wants to dye his hair for the new album he will lol. But I don't think it's any indication that things are happening.4 points
-
Timeās been kind to it, at least among fan circles. Itās not that bad at all, but a project on that scale just needed a little longer to cook but I think they were feeling pressure to get it out in 2012. Besides, the impression I got from Cuatro is that he was pretty hands off with the whole thing. I do think if he had a stronger role in the trilogy it probably wouldāve been more fully realized but I donāt blame or vilify Iām for that. From what little weāve seen of 1972 so far he seems involved and engaged, which gives me confidence.4 points

I'm entirely intoxicated at this point but I was thinking; what if 1972 is a double album? Side A: 1 ide B: 9 Side š 7 Side š§š§2 Ignore the emoji's im drunk sorry4 points

And unless the video was taken a long time ago, it seems to suggest that things really are as early as I thought they were. Again I have no problem with this at all because I've expressed that I want the boys to take as much time as they need to get this right. I can live for a little while without new material any time soon, especially now that I poured bleach into my ears to try and cleanse them of whatever the fuck that Max Creeps shit was. ...Yeah it didn't work out so well and I'm gonna need some time before I can hear anything again.4 points
-
I donāt think the āfans stormed the stageā. Usually on those award shows, itās just a random audience and theyāre usually given a heads up / told to do certain things, ie join the band onstage.3 points
-
A huge part of critical reception is public image. If not for the incident many of these 'faults' would be overlooked because the band had built up so much goodwill by that point. I'm not saying it would have been day and night, but it surely would have made a huge difference.3 points
-
Absolutely!!! Just look at how the fans stormed the stage during Let Yourself Go at the 2012 MTV VMAs!!!3 points

Rob was a yes man during the Trilogy. He was fanboying and not objective. I like Rob, but weird how suddenly he's a savior when people hated him during the Trilogy. Also might not mean anything but red hair seems abnormal for him. Could that suggest a music video or promos?3 points

The problem now is with vinyl. If they want vinyl released day and date with the album (and Iām sure they do), thereās going to be at least a 6 month wait I would guess (and thatās because theyāre a major artist otherwise it would be longer).3 points
-
Not necessarily months away. I remember for 21CB, Murder City was recorded at the last minute. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/21st_Century_Breakdown This says they made the finishing touches in April 2009. The Know Your Enemy single came out that same month and the album came in May!3 points

I edited my post after your comment but I note that Finkās hair was a washed out faded red. There was a lot we didnāt see over the pandemic year he wasnāt posting.3 points

I think it's recent because he hasn't had hair like that since the 90s. And it's like he posted a before and after.3 points

Beautiful photos here from photographer Sean Murphy and some nice words about working with GD: https://www.instagram.com/p/CcVdzH4rvP1/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=3 points

But however long the wait is for vinyl, GD could still have chosen to relase FOAM earlier digitally but they didn't.2 points
