"1972" featuring Travis Barker, produced by John Feldman. Followed by the "1972" headlining world tour with MGK as the opening act.7 points

This is very off-topic (sorry) But it occured to me that if the project (album / EP / whatever it is) is indeed to be called 1972, then I'd love them to perhaps dedicate a song or something to Taylor, seeing he shared his birthday with Billie and they had a close relationship to the Foos.4 points

Taylor was born 17 February 1972- the same day as Billie. I can't imagine what FF fans must be feeling now4 points

I'm just speculating here but I think today must be a difficult day for Billie. He felt deeply Amy Winehouse's death, he wrote "rock and roll tragedy, next one could be me" so I think Billie must be facing his own mortality today since one of the biggest drummers in the world right now died and he was born on the same day as him! Especially when Green Day is working on a project called 1972...3 points

What are people's interpretation of Poprocks and Coke? I've always thought of it as a really sweet song, but I can see how it could also be interpreted as a stalker-y song if you don't pay too much attention. I think the main thing that makes it sweet to me is the "I'll be there FOR you" line. Also "If you should fall you know I'll be there." They are there for someone if they need to be to be supported, emotionally or physically. It's a song of dedication, selflessness, and love. That's my interpretation. Just curious to see what others think.3 points

You’re probably right, but it might be a good thing to be reminded of that once in a while.2 points

No this isn’t off topic at all! Seeing that they’re still recording, it’s a nice idea! RIP Taylor Hawkins 1972-20222 points

He said something like reach out if you need to talk but it almost read like he couldn’t get in touch with Dave or something. It had been shared on FB but I can’t see it right now. exactly this, and our GD boys will be feeling so bad for Dave and co. Can’t imagine Dave feeling able to pick up the pieces again!2 points

Here’s a good example of one of those times people wanted to swat Billie with a paper towel roll2 points

I’m guessing he inspires that feeling a lot in people around him 😄2 points

I'm not the biggest FF fan but I really like them. This news is so shocking. I can't imagine what a die hard fan must feel right now....2 points

Better not use that ugly pic of Billie Joe! The fan girls will riot!2 points

Billie knows full well how frustrated he made a lot of us by posting such a tiny, thumbnail size, low res ass selfie. He just enjoys fucking with us too much. I've gotta love him for it, but at the same time I want to whack him in the head with good, stiff empty paper towel tube.2 points

I think the most fun/insane thing I’ve seen happen on this forum was when some account that hadn’t logged on since 2004 or something posted in the RevRad speculation thread with just the word “Monday” (or some other day of the week) and we all thought it was someone from the band until their “intel” was proven wrong and they were like no I’m just some random fan 😂😂😂2 points

So, against my better judgement, I clicked on one of those "news articles" titled, "25 all-time punk rock characters and it was pretty spot on really, look who popped up! Billie Joe Armstrong The leader of a band who opened the door for the pop-punk takeover of the mid-to-late 1990s, Billie Joe Armstrong has grown from immature Green Day frontman to multimillionaire businessman. He's battled substance abuse, unleashed vocal tirades on stage and flung mud with the crowd at Woodstock '99. Never violent, Armstrong's persona is like your goofball suburban neighbor.2 points

You know, I think life is too short to discuss whether or not something is real on gdc, but this sounds good.1 point

I can't believe that the world has come to a point of not punk, but pop punk wannabes / posers actually being a thing. I would have never guessed that songs in which drums sound like poor MIDI samples and albums where half of the songs have a featuring random rap ''artist'' would integrate in this once ''alternative'' genre. And the fucking trap beats everywhere. Fuck that shit. Fuck it.1 point

I'm not a FF fan but damn 50 is so young and such a terrible loss for his friends, family and bandmates 😢1 point

That’s how I see it, a love and friendship song. It’s not at all like Every Breath You Take or anything1 point

GD and the Foos had many good times together in the 90s. Taylor even wrote a song on his solo album about a night out, and mentions Billie Joe and Rivers Cuomo. They were pretty tight. Horrible news, and I really wonder how the Foos are going to be able to continue without Taylor. There's just no replacing him.1 point

What scares me slightly is that while GDC may have been trusted to work out that it's Rob Cavallo (going from all available evidence), I can't see how the average casual fan would realise this. Seeing the rumour hasn't hit the press either, the (potentially wrongful) excitement could be purely confined to GDC. On the other hand, while I'd never choose to call it ill-intentioned, I do think taking a picture in the studio with someone who plausibly could be Rob Cavallo just to prank us seems rather weird and doesn't quite sit right with me. Not to mention that Rob would have to be in on it too (which he may well be, I'm not excluding any possibilities). Once again, being cautious after MOOTIK is perfectly reasonable, however, those were fake teasers and leaks getting us all excited and hyped up about a fake album. These are official teasers and thus, even if the band does not realise what they're doing and have no strategy whatsoever (which is possible), these teasers inevitably carry more weight, whether they want them to or not.1 point

Don’t want to be a downer but even if we knew definitely it was Rob, without confirmation he is producing we are still making assumptions. He could just be in London and dropped in for an hour. Just be glad there is something coming and stay calm people! 😘😘1 point

This. I don’t care what anybody says. Look at the promotion, the interviews, the fact that they wouldn’t play any of it on tour. They were underwhelmed with that album way before the fans were. Maybe that’s why the response was meh too. They seemed meh first. We both made the same point lol, but yes this exactly1 point

I'm watching an episode from one of my favorite YouTube channels right now, and it's artists creating drawings from emo lyrics, and the episode host just said "So, the other thing I think is kind of emo-ish is like the Green Day accent where it sounds like a surfer trying to be a chimney sweep" and I cracked up. That's such a specific and hilarious description. I was dying. 😂 The delivery just makes it that much funnier. Here's the video. It's at 28:11.1 point
