What scares me slightly is that while GDC may have been trusted to work out that it's Rob Cavallo (going from all available evidence), I can't see how the average casual fan would realise this. Seeing the rumour hasn't hit the press either, the (potentially wrongful) excitement could be purely confined to GDC. On the other hand, while I'd never choose to call it ill-intentioned, I do think taking a picture in the studio with someone who plausibly could be Rob Cavallo just to prank us seems rather weird and doesn't quite sit right with me. Not to mention that Rob would have to be in on it too (which he may well be, I'm not excluding any possibilities). Once again, being cautious after MOOTIK is perfectly reasonable, however, those were fake teasers and leaks getting us all excited and hyped up about a fake album. These are official teasers and thus, even if the band does not realise what they're doing and have no strategy whatsoever (which is possible), these teasers inevitably carry more weight, whether they want them to or not.5 points

So, against my better judgement, I clicked on one of those "news articles" titled, "25 all-time punk rock characters and it was pretty spot on really, look who popped up! Billie Joe Armstrong The leader of a band who opened the door for the pop-punk takeover of the mid-to-late 1990s, Billie Joe Armstrong has grown from immature Green Day frontman to multimillionaire businessman. He's battled substance abuse, unleashed vocal tirades on stage and flung mud with the crowd at Woodstock '99. Never violent, Armstrong's persona is like your goofball suburban neighbor.4 points

Yeah, the assumption didn't just come from the fact that there's a picture of the back of a bald guy's head. I mean, it's the same scar of the same shape on the same position of the head on a bald guy with glasses. Obviously that's not to say that's it's a confirmed thing, but what are the odds that Green Day is going to work with 2 different guys who look the exact same from behind Assuming it is Rob, why would they post a teaser for the album that includes him unless it's to suggest that he is working on the album. I mean, I suppose it's possible that it's for the purpose of trolling us (as they've been known to do). Also what are the odds that Rob just happened to be in London while the band were there recording their new album?4 points

„Hey Rob, wanna come to London? Y’know, Butch had a funny idea for a picture. Oh and bring Doug“ - Billie maybe 😄4 points

I think the most fun/insane thing I’ve seen happen on this forum was when some account that hadn’t logged on since 2004 or something posted in the RevRad speculation thread with just the word “Monday” (or some other day of the week) and we all thought it was someone from the band until their “intel” was proven wrong and they were like no I’m just some random fan 😂😂😂3 points

The thing about the whole MOOTIK situation is that something was happening there. It's not like we were just pulling this stuff from our asses. Additionally, there have been occasions where we think something is fake that ends up being legit. Most notable example of this is the RevRad tracklist leak. Everyone thought it was fake because several of the song titles were previously used lyrics in prior songs. Also, the first time I saw the FOAMF cover, I thought it was someone on GDC who made a joke album cover3 points

There are so many possibilities! They may have uploaded the pic then realised Rob was in it and thought “shit, that’ll set hares running” (we know these guys, they would think that was hilarious) and Rob may have been in London for the last month or more. He may have called and said, “hey guys, Abbey Road had a cancellation cos (insert random artist name) got Covid, do you want to book the space for a few days final…….” whatever it is they may want to do. My point is, we are still making assumptions so don’t be disappointed if it turns out it’s not Rob or he’s not producing.3 points

His hair is already way fluffier in the "'lil selfie" than it was at the concert not even a week ago. It seriously grows like a weed!3 points
-
Don’t want to be a downer but even if we knew definitely it was Rob, without confirmation he is producing we are still making assumptions. He could just be in London and dropped in for an hour. Just be glad there is something coming and stay calm people! 😘😘3 points

Surely not. This site is not affiliated with the band. It's mearly a fan run forum.2 points

Hang on - London, Abbey Road Studios, Rob Cavallo or doppelganger - call me Mike Dirnt but could this be Green Day firing on all cylinders?2 points

What a time 😂 literally most of us thought this was the album cover. Well, what the band gave us wasn't far from this one 😅1 point

This is quite cool Billie would be all out of proportion if I tried to draw something like this1 point

Surely, someone on this site who has connections with the band has to have an idea of what it was, right? Although it only has 15 followers!!!1 point

That's all it was. Just a private account for them to share things with each other during the FOAM recording process1 point

This is why their current marketing strategy confuses me. To give little hints to fans one year before the album release is one thing, but to make official announcement videos on social media that also big news platforms write about it and then don‘t release anything for such a long time is something different😅 maybe their plans for an EP indeed changed and now they want to record a full album.1 point

Yeah, I suppose there's some truth to this. I mean, the guy in the picture really really really looks like Rob Cavallo, but do we have definite confirmation that it's him? No. Though then again, I'm probably just being overly cautious here due to the remaining trauma linked to MOOTIK. Also, yes, Rob being back (to one degree or another) is definitely wishful thinking, but the official teasers that we've been hearing so far also sound a lot less like FOAM and a lot more like Cavallo-era Green Day (which I realise isn't saying much). Either way, I don't think most people here are grasping at straws this time around, it does seem like it's him. Not saying it's bad to be cautious though.1 point

their last lp had 10 songs, only 2 songs are (imo) solid green day songs (in the meaning of how much i like them personally) the trilogy era was very special to me, we got 37 new songs, 16 songs i still love to hear, and many of the others are also pretty good i dont care if we get a new lp with 18 songs or just 9, i dont care who produces the songs, i just want them to sound passionate again, foam was okay-ish, but you could literally feel that "sth is missing", i really hope they release some good creative stuff again, because they can be good punk musicians, if they want to and if its not forced somehow1 point
-
Yeah, totally. This all counts as evidence in the column of Rob having a potential role in what they're currently doing in England. I wasn't arguing against fun speculation and internet sleuthing. It's about treating it as a confirmed fact on scraps of evidence, however convincing or unconvincing they may be.1 point
-
Yeah, exactly. That's not what I would say is a factual confirmation... What I'm saying is that it's a fun theory with some cool evidence to back it up, but not something to just take as hard truth.1 point
-
I mean, why else would Cavallo be with them in a studio? It’s one thing if we see a post with them together out in public somewhere, then yes, we’d be reaching there1 point

As a longtime lurker of these boards (mostly) and even longer time fan of the band (I'm old), I can't help but notice a trend that happens: the band posts something or shares something on social media, and then there's a rumor or theory coming off of that that's taken as true and just carried forward and repeated as if it's fact. What I mean is, there's lots of comment and conversation that Rob is back as producer that's all based on one photo of the back a bald guy's head. That's far from a confirmation. It's a fun possibility and even something that I would like to be true, but it's far from a given. The reason I say anything about all is not to be a wet blanket, but I feel like this happens a lot on here (and even on Reddit) to the detriment of the music. I saw it a lot before FOAMF that I think is why the actual release of that album was so jarring for people (myself included). The actual music flew in the face of everything people had been talking about and expecting. I know Panicland was partly responsible for that too, but even with the first few teasers of this project, the idea that it was following a specific release pattern was floated, then taken as true, and then when the band didn't release something on that patterned scheduled, people were upset and disappointed. Love this band, love reading this forum and seeing other people's theories and internet detective work, but I can't help but point this all out especially after living through the FOAMF reaction.1 point

How long they have/haven't been teasing doesn't really tell us anything about how long they've been working on the album. For all we know FOAM could've been finished for like a year before they started teasing it. And we don't know how much of this album has already been written/recorded. The fact that the gap between FOAM and this album will be less than what the gap normally is between albums (assuming the album is released by the end of 2022) means that there's probably been less time spent writing the songs. Now, of course if it's just a 10-12 song album, that's probably ok. If it's 16-18+ tracks, then that's less likely1 point

I think the issue with Butch Walker is that he didn't know how or where to steer the band. But the idea that Butch was behind everything that went wrong with FOAMF is just ridiculous. I'm fine with Rob coming back because I'm finding myself losing a bit of interest in RevRad & parts of the trilogy while at the same time growing more on some of their 90's albums that I used to think of as mid-tier Green Day like Nimrod or Insomniac. Might be playing things a little bit safe but honestly, there's not been any huge growth in the band's output since 21CB. I'm just hoping for a really solid album Also did Green Day actually blame Rob for the sound of the trilogy? I was under the impression that it was the band, Billie especially, that was behind the sound of the trilogy I think 18 tracks was fine for 21CB. The issue is that the band's recent output is too mixed for me to be confident that they can pull off another 16-18 track album in 2022, unless they take a lot of time trying to perfect it1 point

The reason I’m excited to see them back with Rob despite the ups and downs of the past is that this seems to me like another attempt at a milestone record. Rob was the one who with Billie literally charted a course for their career along the lines of legendary classic rock bands, and particularly The Beatles and The Who. So this is your breakout album, this is your experimental phase, time to do that concept album, etc. If they’re with Rob in London (and particularly Abbey Road) they have another career defining move in mind with this record I think. There’s no way they haven’t discussed this within the greater context of their past discussions over the years. There was a road map and maybe they feel like they got off course and are returning to it.1 point

Hopefully they don’t cut it down to 10 songs again like they did with FOAM!! Although they’re clearly more enthusiastic with this one!!! With FOAM, all promotion was directed towards “Hella Mega, Hella Mega, oh and by the way we have a little album coming out too.”1 point
-
I hope not, to be honest, unless some songs are kept relatively short like on Nimrod. AI is already pretty long, but I actually quite like that it has 13 songs, 21CB is a bit too long for my taste. Seeing that they recorded 6 songs in the first round and assuming that this is a full record, perhaps we're looking at something more in the direction of 12-14 songs.1 point

Everyone missing cavallo but when that trilogy came out everyone was like wtf is up with the production rob fucked up and even green day blamed the sound on rob . no matter what green day are the ones that decide how they want their .usic to sound and its not like butch was like put more hand claps. Billie been in love with hand claps for awhile now. Everyone needs to relize green day is killing their sound not producers1 point

I am so happy Rob Cavallo is (most likely) producing GD again. Yes BV did a great job but for whatever reason that looks like it won't happen again. As far as I'm concerned RC is a member of the Green Day enterprise BW can suck a fat one (seems like a cool guy though)1 point

Just here to say: ROB CAVALLO SAVE US ALL By the way I guess we will have something at late summer maybe, like Oh Love and Bang bang and after the Summer tour is over I'd say new album AND World Tour ❤️ Like arena tour (that are the best, sorry festivals). Now I just want to hug Cavallo (if he's actually with them ahah)1 point

Honestly, I know it’s wonderful but bringing three fans up is too much for me, it takes too long. I could live without Knowledge and the Kiss cover. They have such a brilliant, huge back catalogue of their own, I don’t want to hear covers at a show.1 point
