That has got to be the most cursed image of Billie I have ever seen. Get it out of my sight! 😖6 points

Not sure I would want to read anything into this specifically, but I've been saying for a while now that a release timed for after Hella Mega would kinda make sense. I think with those shows simply being rescheduled, it seems 1) the project, whatever it is, would be entirely unrelated to that tour and 2) it might be the worst place to play a bunch of completely unknown new songs. I mean, the hella mega tour has been criticised by many on GDC, maybe rightly so, but whatever one's stance, I think we should all be able to agree that the band decided upon and signed up for a tour mostly pandering to the greatest hits crowd. The 1972 project really doesn't seem to fit into that picture at all to be honest. As such, a release timed for after that tour would make a lot more sense. On the other hand, hinting too much at releasing a new project right after those tour dates might still disappoint all those going to one of those gigs who were expecting new songs. Kind of damned if you do, damned if you don't, really.5 points

Caught being very sweet to people again! Saw it on sm but didn’t realise it was only taken yesterday. Would she have spoken to him if he’d looked like the pic he shared on IG? 😂5 points

Hear me out…Billies latest Instagram story was a wordle thing, but if you see, he only put two rows. Now look at the colors: 5 white, 3 yellow, 2 green. ITS A MESSAGE. 1972 will have 5 original songs, 3 re-recordings from Dos, and 2 re-recordings from Uno. Classic Billie with his cryptic and ALWAYS meaningful Instagram stories from midnight4 points

I'm hoping a proper Green Day tour gets announced together with the next full length album, because if it doesn't, I'll be thinking this is their new normal. It's possible that they simply can't/don't want to play 100 shows a year and this is their way of making up for it.3 points

well, or the release of 1972 happens before the european hella mega shows, or it will happen only after they finish this cycle... which would make no sense since the first teaser came in december... but it's something that would fit in their shitty marketing strategies3 points

Without that beard, I think he would have looked pretty cute with the pigtails 🤣3 points

He’s probably being very careful with this one. We know very little about this aside from the teasers. Even the insiders in this forum have been silent!3 points

I just bought the Blu-ray disc of Ordinary World the other day and finally watched it, and was just watching this interview yesterday. Thanks for sharing the photos. The movie was great. Billie was too cute... 😍3 points

That's possible. "Go big or go home" as they say. The Longshot tour was a fun project for Billie, but I doubt that from the band's perspective, there's that much of a difference between playing arenas and these large shows. They're playing an almost the same set. If anything, the massive shows are more profitable while requiring less touring, so it's a win win situation for them.2 points
-
I've gotta be honest, this rather awful thought has crept up on me too. I really hope it's not the case, especially seeing how much Billie said he loved the longshot tour. That said, maybe they aren't too fond of the "in-between thing" i.e. the kind of mid-sized arenas and concert venues that they more often than not struggled to fill back in 2017.2 points

Yeah I’d have a hard time believing we’re over two months from something2 points

I’m still waiting for the next proper Green Day tour that’s not stadium packages or festivals. Is this all they’re gonna do now, crowds of 50,000? I’m not interested in paying to see all these other acts and dealing with those kinds of crowds where they play nothing but the same hits and you can’t see shit.2 points

Yeah, it’s unbelievable that this is the same person as the dainty eyeliner guy. But if I randomly met him like that, he wouldn’t really stand out as particularly disheveled. It looks like he even bothered to trim it. Would I recognize him? That’s another question haha2 points

I really wish I had ANY interest in seeing any of the other bands that day. Pretty lame festival lineup.1 point

No idea and I don't really want to be right tbh, I'd much rather prefer a release beforehand. I admit I quite like the ring of a new EP/album and accompanying tour, Hella Mega being a bit of a cheap/generic substitute, but on the other hand, I don't want to wait that long either. Besides, the band being able to play (and advertise) some of the new songs at Rock Am Ring (which is televised) would also be cool. But at this point I don't think there's much we can actually deduce about their promotional or release strategy. Anything's possible, really.1 point

And like I said, they got the MLB Innings festival coming up next week, and it would be a huge missed opportunity if they don’t release a single before that! Now this makes perfect sense!!!1 point

They just announced they’re headlining a festival in Asbury Park, NJ in September!!! And yet we still know nothing about 1972!!!1 point

With these USA festivals being scheduled right after Brazil's Rock in Rio, I guess we're not getting too much (if any) of a South American tour1 point

Sorry, I meant this interview. https://www.aol.com/article/entertainment/2016/11/10/onlyonaol-imagine-having-green-days-billie-joe-armstrong-play/21603566/ There was nothing on the Blu-ray...😢1 point

https://www.instagram.com/p/Ca1K0X9LncJ/?utm_medium=copy_link So here’s what I find curious. You know how he likes to drop news of what’s next randomly to fans he meets? So here’s a story from yesterday and instead of saying he has an album coming out soon he says they’re going on a world tour (which I assume is Hella Mega but not until June). So is 1972 still a long way away as in after the tour? You’d think he would have mentioned it if it was soon.1 point

I bet it is. The original ¡Dos! vinyl has Drama Queen on it instead of Stray Heart so IIRC that song has never been released on vinyl.1 point

That era in particular was something special. For me it wasn't t the best but I think it was a remarkable point of change for Green Day. I was in my first year of college and man what a time! I had a couple of friends and we talked about the footage of the shows at the tiki bar and how amazing those new songs sounded and how excited we were for the official versions to come out. Honestly, the final recordings were not to my liking back then. I remember how disappointed I was with Oh love as I think it's a song that had a lot of potential to be one of the best in GD entire career. But still, what a nice surprise Lazy Bones and Brutal Love were the first time I heard them (my favorites of the trilogy). Those songs fit well with the sound that the band wanted to implement at that time. I can only say that for years I thought they were their worst records, now I think they are the most greendayish albums in their entire history. It's as if you put all their records in a blender and when you mix them, what comes out is the trilogy. It was a fun time, I like to associate some period of my life with the music I was listening to at that time and without a doubt the trilogy has a special place in my heart ❤️1 point

I think there's a lot of confusion between production and mixing + mastering around here. Production decisions, imo, let FOAM down - whether that was Butch Walker's doing or Green Day's (or as all evidence seems to point, both). When I say that I mean the creative decisions made in the recording process to realise the songs written, i.e very different sounding guitar tones from previous albums, hand claps, synth sounds etc. This is where I think Revolution Radio is miles ahead of FOAM, with the band producing themselves and choosing to go in a more 'Green Day' direction with a lot of Who influences and massive sounding guitars. From a mixing (+mastering) point of view FOAM sounds great -- much less smashed by limiters during mastering, and things like vocals generally sound more well recorded and have fewer glaring issues with balance and certain harsh frequencies which RevRad suffers from. Personally I have no reason to believe that Butch Walker couldn't produce a more 'Green Day' sounding record if that's what the band wants, although I must admit I'm not super familiar with any of his work outside of FOAM so obviously not a great start. Mainly just hope they go back to a more organic sound, with less compressed drums and bigger guitars.1 point
