  8. To me 21CB is also the best album, the production is just so beautiful! But I also like the production of the Trilogy. After nearly a decade of heavy guitars it was time to strip everything down a bit and create a more backyard-and-no-stadium-like feeling. So at first sight the production of the Trilogy seems more simple than of 21CB and AI but at the same time, it‘s partly even more complex and has many interesting elements in it (by example, they took Billie’s background vocals to the next level). And this is why I love the Trilogy as it is.

  10. I couldn't agree more. 21CB is my favorite album of all time. The production quality on that album is unmatchable by nearly any other album. It still sounds fresh more than a decade later too.

  11. I totally get this. Sometimes it feels like going to the same concert over and over, even if it is a new era. I loved the 21st CB tour, there was a section in the show that was often different for each show, I mean Platypus (I hate you) live made the Montréal show so much better for me because it made that show special. Would love to see them bring that back, pick a couple random gems from the catalog each show.

  13. I completely understand where you are coming from with the band having a new era and new sound but the problem lays in the fact that it can be extremely difficult to tell songs apart, especially for people that don't listen to Green Day as much as it's fans do. There's no denying there's consistency across the trilogy, but that's just it... there is simply just too much of it. I will never forget the time I tried showing some people who weren't hardcore fans some songs off Uno! shortly after that album came out and then distinctively being surprised when I asked them what they thought of "this song over the last" and their honest answer was simply "wait this is a different song?". In my opinion, literally any songs off any Green Day album prior to the trilogy had the right balance of being easy to tell songs apart, while still maintaining the themes and sounds of the albums that they belonged to and looking through the bands entire catalogue, I challenge anyone to tell me how the trilogy did this even close to as well as the albums that came before.

  17. Every post I see from you lately is really long and seems to miss the point entirely. I don’t join those “debates”. You don’t seem to know how to read or understand what you read. I don’t usually say anything back but it is annoying to read even parts of your posts while scrolling through a thread. If you don’t know what you’re reading maybe you shouldn’t post longass boring replies in all the threads. I guess I feel bad for you if you’re just a kid. I hope you’re not 12 years old or something. Sorry.

  18. ¡TRÉ! was actually like a stadium rock record. Especially with songs like Brutal Love and Dirty Rotten Bastards. In one of the pre-release interviews, Billie even said he wrote DRB with arena shows in mind

  30. I mean, I wouldn’t say we got ripped off. It’s clear the Trilogy to him was a reminder of a tough time in his life (the iHeart Radio incident and rehab). On the other hand, maybe those Otis remixes show that he’s starting to get over it and accept the Trilogy. I hope they do something good for the Trilogy’s 10th anniversary this year

  31. We got ripped off. I would love to hear those songs live. It’s been pretty much over a decade. I wonder if those songs are now gone forever since it’s been so long. But they’ll play Welcome to Paradise and 2000 Light Years Away constantly. About 30 years of those on every set list = washroom break. Say what you want about King for a Day but the costume is cute and the dancing is very great. Unpopular opinion: I’ll never get tired of KFAD. If the new tour after Hella Mega isn’t new or interesting I’m not going. I’m becoming so jaded I might retire my Green Day fandom entirely. Like ending a 30 year mariage to save me from stagnation.

  36. I heard a lot of Beatles and Queen influence on 21CB as well!!! Billie’s dreamy-like guitar in the second teaser reminds me of the intro to Before the Lobotomy!!! And the harder, crunchier guitars in the other teasers remind me of American Idiot!!!

  37. 100%. I am a massive sucker for X-Kid, Stay the Night, Rusty James and more.. I just wish those songs got as much love as what the albums of the past had, regardless of who produced them. I think this late in the band's career, it's very important to be far more careful with what they are putting out there and making sure it's as good as it can be first and foremost. I don't care how long it takes, as long as it's another album I can look back fondly on and the only one I can look back fondly on since 21CB came out in 2009 is RevRad, side projects aside and that's simply not good enough for a band as talented, gifted and with as much calibre as Green Day. From what I have heard of 1972 so far, its got the potential... but songs need more than just potential to truly stand the test of time. Thanks, I should have been more specific 😅

  38. It’s very easy to jump on any bandwagon, it’s actions that count. We know who this band are from their actions in the past, supporting many great charities and causes over the years, publicly and quietly. That’s what’s important, nobody for one second can think they support Putin.

  39. This. I've loved the Rob-produced albums, but the trilogy just doesn't hold up to any of them. It sucks, cause it has some good songs. Even with the filler, it would've been great if the production wasn't as lame as it was. The worst part is X-Kid is probably my favorite GD song, and the fact that it hasn't gotten an Otis Mix or was on Demolicious blows. I'd love to hear a Big Guitar version. I loved 21CB when it came out. It was a perfect blend of Bruce Springsteen and The Clash imo. Having that wall of sound production quality was great to listen to, and going back to whatever it was that they did with the Trilogy was a huge let-down. That's why I loved RR so much. Yeah it was "safe", but production wise? It blew the trilogy out of the water. Everything was louder and actually sounded finished, as opposed to before. Hopefully with this new album, we get some more loud guitar/bass/drum action again.

  40. Late reply, but I really fucking miss Butch Vig. Sure Rob produced AI and TBP which are some of the best albums out there... but he also produced the trilogy and man, that was some really fucking bland production, I don't even know what happened there but while the trilogy has some great songs, it NEVER should have released in the state that it did. Now luckily for us we have Demolicious and Big Guitar Mixes to help fix some of the issues, but at the end of the day Mr. Cavallo had a hand in letting the trilogy release the way it did with his name on it as producer. Butch Vig on the other hand produced many of my other favourite albums from multiple artists and all of them have aged like fine wine... and then of course there was 21CB which I truly believe is hands down one of the most underappreciated albums of all time, while simultaneously also being one of the best. I really hope it wasn't a one off production job with the band. I would LOVE to see them work together again and I really hope it happens. Edit: I feel I should clarify that I am not at all opposed to GD and Rob Cavallo working together again, I just think at this point in time I would prefer the band work with Butch Vig should the opportunity ever arise again. Everyone fucks up sometimes but that's how we live and learn. No disrespect meant to anyone and especially not the guy who helped define who I am with albums like American Idiot.

  43. Heh, I live only 30km away from enemy country border (that is commiting genocide to my brothers Ukrainians), but I am soon going to live in Madrid. I can't imagine how this genocide looks to other people far from the conflict place - and, especially how Billie and others look at this. I think the album release date could be postponed - but as the things are unfolding right now, the war might be over soon, because we are helping Ukrainian soldiers a lot with money and weapons. I know Billie is very sensitive regarding these topics (hell, whole American Idiot is anti-war), and it could influence the release date. But I can wait. Most importantly I am saving more money to donate for my fellow soldiers and praying the slaughter soon ends.

  44. Surely the point with their statement is exactly what they say, this moment is not about them - it’s about Ukraine! There is no need to draw attention to them, they are not the important thing here. I understand how people feel but on reflection I like their statement.

  46. Oh, for sure! I assumed they'd play a show on his birthday. That's Billie's favorite thing in the world! What better way to celebrate? I think it's mascara, but I was also reminded of that. I think he did a more obvious Clockwork Orange look for a Foxies show once. As for this particular look from the party, I reeeeaaally like it but I also kind of don't like it a little bit at the same time. I'll always be on team eyeliner - just keep it simple and classic.
