  1. I just don't know what people are wanting the statement to say? We all know they're just as heartbroken and infuriated by this as we are. We know their stance on war and any kind of unjust treatment of humanity. It's quite possible the record label doesn't want them just straight up saying something like "We refuse to play Russia anytime soon because of what Putin has done." It's obvious why this is "not the right time" and saying that there will be a time in the future when it is suitable to return without shitting on Russia as a whole is a sensible way to go. This is definitely not the Russian people's war. It's Vladimir Putin's. Billie has already shared things on his own Instagram that are in support of Ukraine and anti-Putin, so he's making it well known what his personal stance on this is. The official statement from management is of course going to be more toned down. The band members themselves have not lost their passion. Have we seen any promo/interview stuff recently? Have they been able to play shows since everything went to hell? No. That is their go to platform for making a strong statement, if that's what you want to see, and they don't have that at their disposal right now. Just think about what they'd be saying on stage if they could be playing a show right now. I'm sure you'd see that fury come out.

  2. 19 + 72 = 91 ‘91 = the year I was born 7-2 = 5 9+1 = 10 They’re clearly releasing it on my birthday, 5/10, as a celebration of me. Get ready.

  3. I agree. If we waited for world peace we’d never have music again.

  4. I agree with this completely. I really don’t understand this obsession with everybody needing to make a public statement on world affairs these days when realistically most celebrities are just doing it for PR reasons anyway. Or because they’re scared of getting canceled, apparently, based on conversations I’m seeing on the forum. It’s like the equivalent of changing your Facebook photo and feeling like you’re “helping.” Is what happening absolutely horrible? Obviously. Any rational person can see that. I don’t need to see the band members personally post that for my own validation of their opinions. And I’m not going to go posting about it on my own social media because I’ve been ignorant of the situation up until this point and I’m not going to pretend otherwise. But as Lindsay said above, I really really don’t think we need to belabor this point any further. Unless we’re specifically discussing the decision to not tour in Russia right now, please move the conversation about whether the band is making public statements on the situation into the other thread she referenced. (This paragraph is just directed to the thread as a whole.)

  5. Ok let's get back on topic, of speculating about a new album If you would like to continue this conversation there is a thread for you to do so.

  6. A new level of terrible times? Are you kidding me? Have you not been paying attention to the last 20 years? What is happening now sucks but it sucked before, too. The US and its allies have been bombing civilians for so long now but people cared a little bit less because they were not "white" and instead "brown", as well we have faced plagues, pandemics and many other things throughout similarly but perhaps even worse times, the further back you go. Anyway, good music is always a decent medicine for troubled times. The world has long been facing wars, violence & all kinds of bigotry. It would be a mistake for any band or artist to simply drop their plans over this.

  7. Did people really expect the band to make an actual statement? this is from management, it’s that simple, and no one should expect anything further or more personal and it’s 100% the right call.

  8. Sounded to me like lawyer speak rather than the band.

  9. We need music during troubled times like these. It wouldn’t be inappropriate by any means. The Beatles came to America just a little over 2 months after JFK was assassinated

  11. Yes, the music will help us cope!

  12. Not sure if that’s true. We took out the Iranian leader and installed the Shah who was friendly to the West with their oil. He was a tyrannical dictator we propped up. We armed the Taliban to kick the Russians out of Afghanistan. I’m not comparing us to the tyrants of today but we’ve had our share of shitty moves foisted on other countries when it benefited us.

  13. Writing from Austria: Yes, we have troubled times and the situation here in Europe is extremely dangerous. I think now is the perfect time for new music.

  14. The Rev is the youngest of the bunch, and more wild. Mongo is F-ed up and Billie is old, so Rev would stomp them into the ground.

  17. Alright, I know I've been guilty of this as well but let's try to keep this on topic (as much as possible) about GD & Hella Mega. I'm obviously fine with keeping the discussion on GD's decision to cancel their Russian date in here, but if you guys want to discuss the war in the Ukraine in more detail please move it here. Also NOT calling anyone out with this post as I don't think we've been off topic too much, just trying to move the general war discussion there before it becomes that way.

  18. I think it's possible that the Ukraine situation may delay a release only because now that they have more control over releases and stuff, they may feel uncomfortable releasing anything right now. I hope that no relief concert is done anytime soon only because it would feel wrong to have this big concert while a literal war is going on.

  19. This is how you cancel a show and make a statement

  22. I hope the release date and the hints stop during this time. It’s a new level of terrible times. When the record does come out I hope I love it as much as I love the Trilogy. I’m going to listen to the Trilogy right now from beginning to end skipping a couple of the songs I started skipping after the first listen there are a couple of sucky songs but a great project overall. I’d rather have a mammoth record with a couple of songs I skip rather than a half hour record I hardly listen to at all. I hope they get as inspired and excited as they did during the making of the Trilogy. It almost sounds like they’re excited about this project but it’s hard to tell. It’s such a messed up time.

  23. Yes, someone confirmed it's 2015. Not at all surprised that we're getting fooled by a picture that's 7 years old, though! He truly looks exactly the same.

  27. Particularly this year, I've been seeing albums released on various days of the week. Of course it's usually smaller artists, probably to help them get some decent numbers and steer clear of competition....but I could see Green Day doing a non-friday digital drop and then the physical copy coming shortly after.

  36. Hopefully another teaser can get us back on track!!! Tomorrow is March 1st so I hope we get something tomorrow!!! I still can’t believe I correctly predicted last week’s teaser!!! In the morning, I said I had a good feeling about that day, which was 2/22/22!!! Speaking of that teaser, I just watched it again with my earbuds on and the mix just sounds incredible!!!! It actually sounds better than the other teasers, which means they have the final mixes ready!!!

  37. The levels of whataboutery here are disturbing, but nothing less than i expect from a generation of cry babies. Granted a lot of the conflicts that the US has been involved in, can be seen as unjust, by some. But never has the US forced tyranny and dictatorships upon people. Democracy should be something that is celebrated & a lot of countries that we've ended up in, there's been many of civilians of those countries begging for us to be there, so we can't really win, because we'll piss some cry babies off here on home soil, even though we've helped put an end to a lot of peoples suffering under brutal regimes. Listen, i know we're not perfect, but comparing the US' involvement in other conflicts is just stupid & naive & smacks of wanting to look / sound cool without really knowing the full facts. 9/11 was unprovoked. Granted we went into Iraq which had nothing to do with 9/11 in reality & in certain times in recent history it's looked like the wrong decision, but there's a lot a large number of Iraqi people who are grateful that our involvement happened because now they get to live a little freer & they get to choose who runs their country through means of elections. I could go on even more, but i can't be bothered.

  38. a) I didn’t say the statement was appropriate, I said this statement was where it would have been appropriate to condemn the war. The exact opposite of what you’ve said. b) I’m not waiting to hear about the band’s feelings. In the recent weeks and days, lots of feelings of people who clearly thought Ukraine was some kind of fancy soup as recently as three months ago have been shared. Choosing silence when you recognize you might not have a lot to say about something is a valid choice.

  39. C’mon guys. I come to this forum to read about GD. If I want to hear about an international war I can look literally anywhere else, since it’s inescapable now. GD cancelled the show, we all know why, so can we move on and keep any discussion about the war to the appropriate thread.

  42. The thread about showing Green Day our love got me thinking about running into celebrities in the wild. I'm 2000 light-years from California, but even in South Carolina there are some famous musicians that pop up now and then. Mick Jagger had some drinks nearby recently, but I'll share the ones that people I know have encountered. DMX used to frequent my town's nightlife scene. Edwin McCain actually comes to my place of employment, though I wouldn't know him if I talked to him. A blues musician named Mac Arnold comes to my job as well. He's know for his custom guitars. The biggest name people run into is Alice Cooper, who is a hardcore golfer and can be seen at just about any Charity golf event.

  43. Doubt that. April 9th and May 7th are on Saturdays. If anything, they’ll be released on Fridays. I hope we get an announcement this week!!! I’m hoping for at least a single in March!!!
