The trilogy was the first album releases that I got to be apart of after becoming a Green Day fan. I bought a physical copy the day each came out, and wore each one down to the point where I can't listen to the CDs anymore. While I do enjoy a majority of the songs on the album and still listen to them, the reason I love the trilogy so much is because of the memories that it brings back. I was a junior in high school, and I remember just how happy I was with my life at that point. It just always amazes me how big of a role music can play in peoples lives. It's not just the music itself, but its the memories and sharing the music with people you care about. The trilogy always reminds me of that, and I am really grateful for that.11 points

Same for me! I've always loved the Trilogy, but it's particularly special to me for that reason. It was the first release where I felt like I had found a family with GDC. I'd never experienced that before. No one I'm close to cares about Green Day as much as I do and I felt alone until then. The sound of those records is just fantastic. All the instruments are amazing and Billie's vocals are top notch (Brutal Love will always give me chills). The production was absolutely perfect and I hope they revisit a sound like that again. I wasn't happy with FOAM's overall sound and I always thought back to the Trilogy when considering what I would have liked it to be more similar to. I still listen to the Trilogy all the time and miss them playing those songs live.6 points

I always like to say that music is the closest thing we currently have to time travel. More in the psychological sense than physically, but for a lot of people (myself included), listening to a certain song or album can bring back memories more vividly than anything else in the world. It can sometimes feel scarily real. In my personal case, though I've been a fan for more than 15 years now (American Idiot and BIAB introduced me to GD) and I also somewhat followed the 21CB tour (I remember excitedly watching the fox theatre show on the telly), the trilogy was the first album/tour-cycle that I followed properly and thus it brings back a lot of memories. I was twice very close to seeing them live (first in 2009, then in 2012), but things unfortunately got in the way, so that had to wait. I also wasn't a member of this forum at that point. As such, the RevRad album/tour cycle is a little closer to my heart, since it was there I managed to see them live for the first time and also actively followed and contributed to discussions here on GDC.5 points

The Trilogy era is when I first started getting into Green Day beyond just the radio hits I knew. It was when my daughter discovered them in middle school (omg she was 13 now she’s turning 24 😲) and really reintroduced me to this band I’ve always known and sort of liked but never paid a lot of attention to apart from Good Riddance and a few others. She played the Trilogy for me and that started my deeper dive. She went with a friend to see them live in 2013 (I specifically remember her telling me when the show was postponed because of Billie’s rehab that’s how I heard about that) and I regretted not going with her because by then I had picked up a whole playlist from her and was listening a lot). We still only had iTunes then though so every song you wanted to listen to you had to buy. We finally went together in 2017 and that’s the year I methodically listened to all the albums thanks to streaming services and fell down the rabbit hole 🕳 of super fandom. But I’ll always remember it starting with the Trilogy and the songs she played me — Stray Heart, Carpe Diem, Nuclear Family.5 points

I hope we get something from them today. This is the weirdest promotion strategy. Way too random and dragged out4 points

The trilogy, with all its high and lows, is for me the "new" warning. I lived Warning era, it was the first GD album I waited for. At that time, everybody was saying GD did their worst album ever, they were such sellouts for making warning, etc, etc. Years later, Warning started to get some recognition. Now, the story is repeating with ¡UNO! ¡DOS! ¡TRÉ! Nowadays, there are more fans who apprecciate these records. P.S.: I've always loved ¡DOS! Pure garage/rock n' roll.4 points

I overplayed the Trilogy back in the day but it's now back on the playlist and I'm falling back in love with it again4 points

Because not EVERYTHING that comes out of their mouths is related to music. It was an interview for Oakland Coffee to promote their coffee brand.4 points

Maybe he meant it as like a hint to his friends and family that he wants a lot of gifts? I've said the whole "hint hint" thing before about many different things.4 points

Billie just posted about pinhead gunpowder. Definitely not getting any new green day related things today3 points

No way the album or EP or whatever you want to call it will be out on the 17th. It's way too soon. Maybe a single, but not the full thing.3 points

Oh my goodness look how young Billie and Jason are in this photo of Pinhead Gunpowder! Photo from last.fm3 points

Because it’s his 50th birthday and that is a huge milestone for people - nothing to do with GD plans3 points

That interview response about his birthday was just a classic Dad joke about wanting gifts. Nothing to do with Green Day.3 points

Yearly ¡Dos! thoughts shared again. Listening ¡Dos! instrumentals again. Holy fuck this album is so beautiful. So simple but so effective at the same time. Fuck Time, Stop When The Red Lights Flash, Lazy Bones, Makeout Party, Lady Cobra and Nightlife are definitely my favorites, but not a single song is bad instrument wise. Even boring song like Baby Eyes is a fucking banger. Even with vocals ¡Dos! is by far my absolutely favorite album from Green Day. There are better songs on other albums (She on Dookie, Whatsername on AI, Last Night on Earth on 21st CB and so on) but no other album comes even close to the feel I get from listening this album. I still remember listening it for the first time almost 10 years ago (it was leaked on YouTube like few weeks earlier) and here I am still headbanging because of this awesome record. I believe it's mostly forgotten by the time, but ¡Uno! is the one that gets you going, ¡Dos! is party album that starts with the bang and ends on hangover, which is called ¡Tre!. All 3 are beautiful albums, but especially ¡Dos! still gets unnecessary amount of hate, even by being the only record out of 3 that has a loose story. Sure, if we take one single song out of the album (Fuck Time or Nightlife) and judge the whole album because of it, then it's bad obviously. However, if we listen the whole record from start to finish, then it makes more sense why those songs were even made. This is also why I liked FOAM and why I dislike single releases like Pollyanna and Here Comes the Shock. Standalone releases fucking suck, because they're meaningless. They're worthless. They don't make any sense. ¡Dos! isn't American Idiot/Dookie/21st CB, but it's definitely the dirtiest, funniest and most enjoyable album they've ever produced. You can really tell how much fun The Boys had while making it. Mike's bass is fucking excellent, Billie Joe busts out his best solos (no, Dirty Rotten Bastards isn't his best solo) and Tre's drumming is tight and consistent. It's impossible to say how Jason contributed to Trilogy exactly (since it was never shared, only implied) but atleast we know he has a solo on Lady Cobra, which is fucking wild. Double guitar solo on Green Day song, what is this? Then there are some other factors that just cements ¡Dos! as my favorite album. Bass is fucking awesome and I really love how it sounds on Lady Cobra, since after chorus there is a slight bass boost which is sex for my ears. Guitar tone is something I've seen people disliking, but on this record it works beautifully. There are some songs on Trilogy that could've used little bit more gain (Let Yourself Go for example) but I highly doubt I'd like Stop When The Red Lights Flash so much if I couldn't hear that bass as loud and clear as I do now. Mixing is just fantastic. I have zero complaints about it. Happy fan. I will always understand the people who prefer literally any other album over ¡Dos!, since Garage Rock isn't something that was ever mainstream nor universally liked. Songs like Fuck Time and Nightlife will always make people confused. It will always be cool to hate ¡Dos!. I don't care. I didn't know myself that I'd love Garage Rock so fucking much until I listened ¡Dos!. For the past 10 years, this album has been serving me well and I've never grew out of it. Stop When The Red Lights Flash is consistently on my top 5 Spotify list, I always come back to listen the instrumentals and I often look back to 2011-2012 when Green Day was the most exciting band ever for me personally. Those goddamn studio videos just made me even more hyped. Hell, even thinking about it makes me sad that GD isn't doing those for every single record. Happy upcoming 10th anniversary Trilogy and especially ¡Dos! ❤️3 points

I wasn't referring to you. More at the thought that they couldn't just drop an album on the 17th or whatever. They absolutely can, and if they want to they will. The Network is for sure the closest thing we can point to on what to expect out of this release, at least promo wise.2 points
-
They are just having fun right now. You shouldn't look at previous album cycles to gain insight on this one. It really seems like they are just doing what they want without care for the promo cycles of yesteryear.2 points

That interview on Billie's birthday didn't even feel like it was written by him at the time, was just incredibly bland and basic responses that could've been written by anyone - I think they were just trying to sell coffee2 points

I agree, but I think of the network as another project where they were just having fun, so I was looking at the “having fun” album cycle 😄1 point
-
Does anyone remember how long it was between the network first posting about MM2020 Pt 2 and the first single? And more importantly, the time between the first post and the actual release? I know the network would follow a different marketing approach than Green Day, but that could give some indication on the timeline1 point

For sure, let’s keep in touch so we can meet at the show. I will probably be there around 6 pm, wanna catch 311 and Incubus.1 point

I was all excited to fly out to LA to go to the show with my friend, but then my friend cancelled and I'm not really someone who likes to do a big journey like that alone. So if anyone wants two tickets, let me know 😄1 point

crap I also have regular GA, hoping we can get somewhat close to the stage.1 point

We would’ve known about it by now. Even with the one-off singles we got in the past year, they posted ahead of time, saying, “Hey we got a new song on Friday.”1 point

In that case, it seems unlikely to me that they'd announce a new single to premiere there.1 point

Of course, it definitely isn't a coincidence. But I'm starting to think that the whole birthday thing doesn't neccessarily need to be the exact day of.1 point

I love the Trilogy ❤️ I read some days ago around the forum that Bj once said "I wrote 38 songs that nobody really listened", I'd like you to know, Billie, that I did, and still doing, and if this summer you wanna bless us with some Trilogy song I'll be happy to go crazy with you Ps. I like Nightlife so much. That's it.1 point

I had heard the band had a whole other album already done by the time FOAM released. Not saying this is that, but just pointing out they have a lot of stuff that we have never heard. At this point in their career, I cannot imagine the band is still at a linear process of "Write, demo, record, mix, master, release" and repeat.1 point

I know this is the Greatest Hits Tour or something like that right now but I can't believe they didn't pull a single Trilogy song on the setlist since 2012. I just hope the Trilogy will eventually be played in a Green Day concert and not only for The Longshot or other side project.1 point

Haha, i did actually dream something once I was sitting with Mike, Billie, Tre and some wierd old man ive never seen before, and we were eating mashed potatos but then suddenly the old man died.. So there are three different versions of all these vinyl re-releases? 1. The individual releases sold by 1234Go Records ; 2. The different coloured vinyls that come with the subscription; and 3. An Indie Store version different to both of the above. Edit: I actually posted the photos above of the three versions but I'd forgotten Shipping to UK for five 7" = $75 (It's more than the cost to buy them!)0 points
