  1. Please change thread title to Album 14 Announcement Date Speculation Thread
    14 points
  2. Honestly if you look at the dates, they are each about 2 weeks apart, give or take a few days. If you ask me, I still think there could be another hint, but probably at the end of the week or into the weekend, as that follows more closely to the 2 week intervals. I've been through quite a few of these album speculation cycles, each time with new and crazy theories. They are fun, don't get me wrong, but from all my experience with this stuff, Green Day has NEVER been a band to make complex hints and puzzles for fans to figure out. They might leave a cheeky comment here or there, use some hashtags, and post some videos, but nothing more than that. It just doesn't seem like their style

  3. I really don’t mind how they play it but I really hate this trend of lead single one month and album not for another 5 months like happened with FOAM.

  4. That would honestly be really cool, almost like a surprise album and that would be quite awesome in it's own right not gonna lie, but looking back at the band's catalogue, I always end up enjoying the albums more that don't seem to have rushed production. I personally would prefer the band take as much time as possible though to get this thing right and as good as it can be. The teasers felt super early, like they are still trying to figure stuff out.. so I am not holding my breath anytime soon. Compare these teasers to the 21CB studio leaks, those songs were almost at completion at those points and you could tell. The album didn't get announced until the year after those dropped and then wasn't released until a few months later. I know that this is probably not going to even be close to the scale of that album, but I'm expecting it to cook for at least a little longer, and then I hope that there will be a bit of space between announcement and release so the hype can build up. Oh my god, re-watching this just makes me remember how much I appreciate Little Girl and the work that went into it, or almost every song on 21CB for that matter. I might even go as far as saying it's currently my favourite album of all time, even if I still think American Idiot it arguably the best one.

  9. Dublin 2010 The Red shirt with the patches was so cool but Billie hardly wore it

  11. The new project is not that whole batch of songs, a few ended up on the network album, some were released as the one off singles, and maybe one or two squeaked onto this one but I’m guessing this is mostly net new stuff

  12. Likelyyy because they took a step back and realized it may not have been their best work. If a group of songs wasn’t good enough to make their worst selling worst reviewed album they they didn’t seem overly enthusiastic about, maybe it was a good idea to take a step back and challenge themselves

  13. And are you sure that wasn’t The Network album?

  14. Guys, I would really hate to be the downer, but I think Feb 17 feels way to early to release an album they only just started teasing. Okay not only that, but if I was Billie Joe, I probably wouldn't want to put my new album out on my Birthday, just like I hate going to work on my actual Birthday. 1972 is probably what the album is going to be called, and it's probably going to be a celebration of 50 years of the band members being alive, and it's fucking fantastic that you are excited... but I think you need to slow down just a tad if you think the band is just going to announce and drop a new album in such a short period of time. If we're lucky, I think we might get another teaser or something but please don't be disappointed if the band members don't go dropping massive announcements on their birthdays. In short. The album hasn't even been announced yet. I very much doubt it's coming out anytime soon.

  16. I got excited for a second when I saw that he posted something. At this point I just assume it's going to be a teaser of some sort

  18. Fentanyl and Degenerate were FOAM session leftovers that got reworked into Network songs. As Bill Maher says; I can’t prove it for a fact, I just know it’s true.

  19. I had heard the band had a whole other album already done by the time FOAM released. Not saying this is that, but just pointing out they have a lot of stuff that we have never heard. At this point in their career, I cannot imagine the band is still at a linear process of "Write, demo, record, mix, master, release" and repeat.

  20. And like with Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds they find out all this stuff has meaning later and are like whoah dude 🤯🤯🤯

  21. That's a good point, but how come the wait is so much longer now than it used to be? Not sure about Green Day (I recall past gaps being a lot shorter), but loads of artists used to release their albums on CD and vinyl at roughly the same time (sometimes slightly later on vinyl), but without a 5 month wait between the first single and album release. I think there's more to it than simply physical restraints and that marketing objectives also play a role. Single digital downloads (never mind physical copy sales) and radio / TV airplay are just not as relevant as they used to be, so the alternative is to give more time to exposure on streaming platforms and social media, which is also important for ticket sales for the tour later on. Again, as I said, all of this makes good financial sense for small to mid-sized artists, but is not necessary for bigger bands.

  22. Yes it's definitely gone. Was it about the protesters in Florida (or Canada)? Both were in the news in the UK yesterday Anyway Billie posted this afterwards https://instagram.com/stories/billiejoearmstrong/2764637172297876385?utm_source=ig_story_item_share&utm_medium=share_sheet

  23. It will definitely come out relatively soon, but the tying back to an early 2021 interview that was not about releasing music for a release date was just grasping at straws

  26. Even the speculation with the teasers turns out wrong, I still think we’re getting new music by Feb 17 (I’m still betting on a Feb 11 single first too)

  27. Probably not but there’s no real reason to pull billies birthday into it

  28. That was my comment. Don’t come for me FOAM haters 😆

  29. I just want a good album. And yeah, I thought FoAMF was good.

  30. Guess they needed more time to design the unicorn vomit 😆 What about the triple EP theory? 1 for each of their birthdays!!! Maybe it’s the lost Songs For Assholes album? LOL but seriously, do you think they’ll combine this with the London songs and release 1 big album?

  31. There was something in the news yesterday about a Nazi protest in Florida and the Governor, Ron de Santis (who is a Republican and very Trumpy), trying to say the Democrats were out to get him or something like that. I think it was about that It's here https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/feb/01/ron-desantis-neo-nazi-protests I think Billie thought the Billie Joe Rogan was funny and the other part was "look how stupid these people are" but I can only speculate as I'm not a mind reader

  32. I only saw it once, and I don't remember the exact content because it disappeared a few minutes later when I tried to figure out the proper content by machine translation. It seemed to be an accusation that they were Nazis...?

  33. It was my understanding that the five month wait was for the vinyl to be available. If the album is available to stream months before the vinyl and CD it cuts into album sales that earn more. So release them together, but with only one manufacturing plant left in the world, vinyl takes months. I think it’s also the packaging and other physical bits that take time with a big label because you’re in line behind all their other artists and they run on a schedule. Again none of that should apply anymore if they’re only using Warner for distribution now and care more about releasing music than maximizing profits

  34. ...and it's really only "necessary" for small to mid-sized artists who are desperately trying to squeeze as much out of Spotify and other streaming platforms' low pay rate as possible. Bands like Green Day, on the other hand, do not need to do this. It's a bit like all these big (and rich) artists suing private individuals who might have infringed copyright in some way (for example by selling a 40 year old bootleg on Ebay, cough cough). Sure, they can do that and it's entirely in their right to do it, but it makes them come off as petty and out of touch...

  36. Except for the fact that the release is called 1972, it’s the year they were all born and on Feb 17 Billie turns 50. But other than that, no reason 😉

  37. The interview was not about the album!!!

  38. I'm not too concerned about no teaser today, because just a very short time ago we had no Billie on Instagram and no idea that they had music coming. I'll be patient. Having said that, I almost feel like it would be better to just drop an album out of the blue rather than have teasers so far apart with no solid clues or information. But no biggie, things are happening.

  39. That slow guitar song in the second teaser sounds promising!!! Not sure if it’s just an intro to the song in the first teaser, but if it’s a separate song, it sounds like it could be a nostalgic look back on childhood. It has sort of a dreamscape quality in the sound

  40. Awesome! That album felt really exciting. I hope they are working through what didn’t work and keeping what did. I am so excited for this new project! I hope the songwriting feels meaningful. The sounds they have been sharing during the teasers sound great. I am just hoping for some more of that heartfelt Billie Joe songwriting with the pulling on heartstrings stuff and/or rage and/or passion ands lots of feeling. He’s so good at that. I have so much hope for this new record. I’m getting impatient and going crazy but I can wait. It seems like this next project is going to be amazing. I can’t wait to actually hear a song.
