Maybe it's the pressure. One of the big reasons to do a side-project or a solo album is to get the world off your back. Billie Joe, or something called The Longshot doesn't have every media outlet and most of the world waiting to judge it into oblivion. So there's freedom in doing those, where Green Day is a business. A business with many customers, a lot of whom are overly critical bastards, haha. With that situation, it's hard or near impossible to go too far away from the "Green Day Sound", no matter how the band feels about it. Maybe Billie's fired up about a wild new idea.....but no. Those buttholes over on GDA don't like that sort of thing. He's written the greatest jazz improv of all time.....but 99% of fans will bail. Can't do that either. I'ma stop right there, because Green Day have never put out a bad album. Not even bad song, in my opinion. Haushinka was pushing it, but even that turd is okay to my ears. Lol10 points

Your spectacularly wrong opinion of Haushinka aside, I completely agree with every word đ đ5 points

Green Day "needs" a comeback When Longshot, The Network, a bunch of teenagers like Panicland and Viva Death sounds better than GD last album, something is wrong.5 points

Yeah, that's kind of my attitude. I'm looking forward to whatever it is and it will happen when it happens.3 points

They have so much in them to do something incredible and great and interesting. Itâs been a while but the Longshot was amazing. I know thatâs not Green Day per se but the lead writing singing guy is the same guy. Plus, the Longshot covered really great neglected Green Day songs. And Holy Toledo was very cool. I wonder if theyâll tap into whatever part of Billie Joeâs personality has that pot of gold⊠Not exactly the same as stuff thatâs been done before but the heart and spirit of that writing would be great. Green Day firing on all those cylinders not just a Billie Joe Armstrong side project. All of them working together on something similar to that would be phenomenal. If 1972 means something reflective and meaningful I have a lot of faith that this is going to be great.3 points

Which is why I wouldnât say they need a comeback exactly, but they could use a victory and Iâd like to see then get that3 points

The last album got a lot of public backlash too, and most casual fans have probably written them off as over the hill after that which kills some hype3 points

We donât have TOO much to go on, and I feel like this is better than people going crazy about a fake album. that being said I keep checking back here disappointed we havenât gotten more news yet3 points

If youâre a member of the GDC/GDA I think youâre next level special fandom level⊠or sometimes a troll. Trolls suck. They really need to get a life and stop throwing their negativity where itâs not needed or wanted. The true fans on here are amazing. But I donât think anyone is a #fakefan for not reading or following this speculation thread. Itâs basically garbage but itâs fun. Maybe someoneâs theory will be correct and they can be win an award or something.3 points

I don't think so. I briefly scan the thread most days and love the hints from the band but just think it will happen when it happens and will be what it will be and that's exciting enough knowing something is in the pipeline3 points

Given Billie recorded some of them on his own, it makes sense that the sound is inconsistent. I'm not a fan of Butch Walker records as I find them noisy. He tends to fill every inch of sonic space in a bad way.2 points

I wouldnât even call FOAM a style. Part of my issue with it as an album is that the style is all over the place. Songs like Fire Ready Aim sound dry as a bone and recorded very straightforward, other songs like Oh Yeah and Junkies on a High slather on production elements carelessly imo. With 21st Century Breakdown you had lots of different kinds of songs but they sounded cohesive, there was a unified front on the production.2 points

Well there's basically only been 1 teaser and nothing's happened since that teaser afaik. Plus, the fact that it's probably an EP and also that it's following a release that is generally considered a lesser Green Day album probably means less people are that excited about a new album/EP release.2 points

Am I a #fakefan for having payed absolutely no attention whatsoever to this thread? I know speculation is GDC's signature move when there's any hint of new music, but I'm just too lazy to keep up this round. I have no idea what's going on other than what Green Day posts.2 points

I think I remember reading that the sound they were going for was just straight up fun 60âs rock n roll1 point

FOAM is way less midlife crisis than the trilogy IMO. Just not a style yaâll like and thatâs okay.1 point

All other bands and imitators aside, why is it you think that Billie can pull it off so well for side bands but not for the main attraction these days?1 point

Remember when we thought we were getting an album called Songs For Assholes? Surprised there was nothing on 4chan leading up to the 1972 teasers!1 point

Donât think so but you can clearly see the joy on his face when they are excited.1 point

Don't know that he's gotten emotional with fans specifically, but he definitely gets emotional pretty regularly (typically during certain songs). First thing that comes to my mind is WMUWSE from BIAB or from Irving Plaza 2012.1 point

I log in once in a while, and what do I see? Green Day are breaking up? "You are not leaving this band unless you're in the coffin". Once you're in, you're in for good. There is no turning back from being in Green Day, nor being its fan. There are only 2 types of people: the ones who are Green Day fans, and the others who lie about it. Suck it up and get ready for the next record1 point

Theyâre not going anywhere this is not their last release. Theyâre just marking turning 50 thatâs all.1 point

Thatâs Billie. Not sure the same is true for Mike and Tre. Billie will be making music until the day he dies for sure, whether with Green Day, a side band or on his own1 point

Interesting, thank you! 200 is insane, but out of 1,706+ shows there could definitely be someone crazier. Someone should make a documentary about Green Day fans so we can all let our Green Flags Fly......on TV!1 point
