Here's a message for all the people saying that they're gonna break up10 points
-
I don't do Simple, but the simplest answer is the new album is called 1972. It's coming at some point in 2022. It will contain songs performed and written by Green Day for the most part. Songs will have titles as well as guitar, bass and drums and will be produced by someone. Some people will love it, others will not. @Little Boy Named Booze will love it so much, he changes his user name, proclaiming the song's third song to be the best song since Little Boy Named Train.8 points

Actually how we ended up in the magnum opus mess is that another band was deliberately trying to trick us8 points
-
They’re not going anywhere this is not their last release. They’re just marking turning 50 that’s all.8 points

I don't think anyone's under the impression that Green Day will be making music until the end of time. But idk why people are saying that they're gonna break up after this album when there's no reason to be thinking that7 points
-
Green Day fans are so dramatic! They'll probably stay a band for as long as they physically can, even if they eventually slow down due to age (which is a ways off, they seem relatively healthy)7 points

Apparently Billie playing slow acoustic plus nostalgic black and white video= BREAKUP!6 points

Damn then I guess all the enthusiasm about putting out releases more regularly was bullshit and they're going to cancel the second leg of Hella Mega. Thanks for clearing that up, guys!6 points

Green Day fans every time they release an album: "They need to make an album like Dookie again" "They're about to break up"5 points
-
I kept an eye on it in the summer of 2019 and I think it stopped at 72 shortly before FOAM was announced5 points
-
I just realized in this latest teaser, Billie shaved his beard, which means, they’re ready!!!!!!!5 points
-
And now we’re speculating a possible break up?!?!?!? WTF is going on here?!?!?!?5 points
-
That’s Billie. Not sure the same is true for Mike and Tre. Billie will be making music until the day he dies for sure, whether with Green Day, a side band or on his own5 points

So,Tre and Mike think they are about to release a new album, but on the day....Billie cancels the release and says he done with singing and is becoming a potato chip model.4 points

Sad to see the forum so quiet. Last time we were getting teasers of new music, it was insanely busy here.4 points

No worries! This is a speculation thread, it‘s what we do! Something he’s been planning for years!!! Funny you said that because I have a wild theory. Remember that SongsForAssholes IG account? I mean we found that account in the lead up to FOAM but maybe FOAM really was thrown together and released as a “Fuck you” to Warner, and 1972 was the real project all along!! Look at the number of posts (72) and tell me that’s not a coincidence!!! https://instagram.com/songsforassholes?utm_medium=copy_link4 points

Right but fans on this site making connections for the sake of having a connection is how we ended up in the magnum opus mess last cycle4 points

This is going to be unpopular but in my opinion, if they released one last album and called it a day, it would be bitter sweet, but they’ve had an extremely successful career for the past almost 40 years. Every story has an ending somewhere and after all, this wouldn’t be a bad one. I’m convinced Billie would go on to release music either as The Longshot or with a different name anyway.4 points

There's no button to state "Agree" but I agree with this 100%. I think that they're just sharing moments, or bits of the process of this new project they're obviously working on. Not everything it's a fucking signal we should decode and make a big deal of something that ISN'T.3 points

I have it! 1972 is going to be an I Love the 90s trip down memory lane. With all things 90s. Furbies, tomogotchies, Power Rangers, etc. Nothing says screw you like a little nostalgia. Wait... The Matrix has me.3 points

I think we were having a discussion on the next album in the Holy Toledo thread, so just for fun, I started this thread and I honestly didn’t think anything would be happening this fast!!! On the last speculation thread before FOAM, we were about 100 pages in before anything happened!!! Before that, all we had was Butch Walker’s studio video in which someone on here recognized Tré’s drums!!!3 points

I'm hoping that was just because there was A LOT of mystery last album cycle. We had the Magnum Opus dilemma for months, we had the songs for assholes instagram account, etc. There was a lot of unknown and it made it a fun interactive time. Even the latest Network release had a lot of mystery beforehand with yet another fakeout from another band. Hopefully the forum picks up when something is announced!3 points

On the ninja team, I had scissors duty and I highly approve of this look.3 points

Green Day could be working with Van Gough from the Network to make a new album, but recording it back in 1972. The album could drop the same time Billie Joe is born, and he will listen to that album his entire life until he's ready to record 1039 Smooth, which will greatly change the sound of every Green Day record. Then, flash forward to 2022 and we get the follow up to FOAM, now called Flaming Omicron Assault Man and It's a glorious return to that 1972 version of 1039. But Van Gough is all over it. Mostly a Dirnt...I mean Gough solo album. I initially thought they would record it in 72 and then release it now, which is possible. I think this will be the end of The Network. They all completely die after this time travel venture. Or doooo they? https://uproxx.com/indie/green-day-new-album-teaser/3 points

It’s not a “recent” interview per se. As an aside I think that interview was trash in general. Seemed really staged and superficial. However… Even apart as using that interview as a reference to a sort of hint of things to come… He’s a long haul kind of person. Over a year ago could be something he’s still planning and has been planning for years. It seems he never forgets or throws anything out.3 points

Green Day fans are insane. I wouldn’t want Green Day to have boring fans this is fun… but holy shit we should calm down a bit sometimes. But then again… Look at our leaders… Someone tell Billie Joe to calm down or Tré Cool to stop prancing around with tassels? No. No please don’t. There is no sane solution for anything but maybe just to simmer down once in a while. Remember: Green Day are not breaking up and a new record is coming. Calm down. They are not breaking up and there’s no way Billie Joe will ever stop writing and creating and wanting to share with everyone. He was born to be this guy. He will not calm down or settle. Let’s count our blessings. But maybe just simmer down a bit. Something good is coming soon! New music!3 points

He really is ageless here. I sometimes have to do a double take when I see a video or picture of him now before realizing it's current and not something old that's been reposted. That trickster!3 points

The suspense is killing me! Green Day please stop teasing us and give us the goods already!3 points

When I first noticed the new teaser, I stopped everything I was doing and watched it about 10 times. At first, I thought Billie was sharing an old clip! Then I realized that's our current Billbo in the flesh! He looks so fucking cute!!! His puppy dog eyes and his pout while he's playing GAH I really hope we get the answer to what is 1972 very very soon.3 points

Guys, Green Day lives for Music, we’re talking about some guys who after a world tour, starts Side-bands and do club tour because they can’t stay without doing music ahah3 points

@The Grohl I did the same thing! So much that I realized Billie was wearing a different wedding band. im not so sure about the single blonde tuft, but he looked so cozy and in deep thought I just wanna sit on the couch next to him and listen.2 points

Sorry if I scared everyone! that wasn't my intention. I owe everyone who took my two cents badly an apology. I'm sorry. That said, I will stand by what I said, but I am sorry again if it caused one or two heart attacks, given that the likelihood of the worst-case scenario is pretty unlikely.2 points

Agreed. I love him in hoodies. And I was wearing my Foxies hoodie when watching that. Oddly, the tuft looks only to be on the right side of his head. Here you go.2 points

Any precedent for this kind of thing with other bands? I mean, as a musician, unless you're going to retire and move on to other things, you're probably constantly writing new stuff, even if only 5 people listen to it and only 2 of those actually like it. For the sake of argument, and I'm not lending any credence to your assertion, as there's not really any evidence for it, but hypothetically speaking, it's possible Billie or the guys might get tired of being in Green Day or at least feel like they've hit a wall in terms of writing new material and therefore perhaps move on to other musical projects. Personal rows or young artists wanting to branch off into solo careers can also lead to bands breaking up, but I don't see the slightest bit of evidence for any of that. So, as long as Green Day exists, I think they'll continue to write and put out new music, whether it's successful/liked or not. And let's also not forget... (0:20)2 points
