Green Day have done EPs before (1,000 Hours in 1989 and Slappy in 1990) but they've never been an EP-heavy band so I'm intrigued by the material that will be on this one. Will they feel "album quality" or will they be fun, little one-offs? They've always seemed to be a band that values a 10+ song collection, labelled as an album, which the songs have a connection between them, ranging from a loose theme or a tightly-coupled story line. I'm super interested to see which direction this takes. We're seemingly in uncharted territory with the band likely to now have more say and control over what they release and when they release it. It's going to be exciting to see how they execute that and how it plays out.12 points

I’m glad we heard the six song rumor because that’s what helped me to manage expectations and expect an EP. Otherwise I’m afraid everyone here might have been expecting the ultimate 50th birthday release of the century.10 points

I doubt they went to London to record anything less than “album quality” songs. I’m also optimistic this will be a full LP, not an EP.5 points

So I liked the clip from the RAK video, but I'm a little suspicious since Billie didn't record this with blonde hair 😂 maybe he only has to have blonde hair when he records in America lol... Anyways, if they release 6 songs I really hope they do something on vinyl with them, like a one sided 12" or something. I'm guessing it'll be too long for a 7"5 points

Nice to see some realistic expectations here of a 6 track EP instead of some 18 track orchestrated operatic masterpiece (a magnum opus even). This way if they do drop an album out of nowhere it'll be a nice surprise instead of how we all felt when we first saw the unicorn on the cover5 points

With the 1972 title and Tre's caption "Here's looking at you kid", I'm wondering if they're hinting at the album having a theme related to music they listened to when they were kids. Maybe a Van Halen, Def Leppard vibe?5 points

1972: Here's Lookin' At You, Kid: A grandiose pop record that at times goes dark and snarled, Billie Joe and company haven't sounded this bold and crisp in years! From the 11 minute Trains, Tanks and T!@#$/ to the Gothic Bolder....this album will leave you with a 50 year old heartache. Kind of like someone has...stabbed you in the heart.5 points

That would be extra cool! I predicted new album in 2023. It seems we will get at least an EP in 2022. So, if a single comes out this year, this would my best mistake made this year!4 points

Thank you! I wish everyone band had a community like this one. Maybe I'd be dreaming up hypothetical albums for everybody.... Or it might just be Green Day. 25 years into this Fandom, 21 years of Green Day being my favorite band. I wish there were other bands this good.4 points

I feel like it has to be related to their childhood, too much coincidence with that random phrase on Tre's post and the repeated reference to 1972.3 points

Imagine if it’s another trilogy? An album for each of their birthdays!!!!2 points

At the 9 second mark, I hear what sounds like "So long" It could be "solo" but no. I believe Green Day have recorded a cover of MCR's Helena. That's where we're at now, folks.2 points

He said this on Oakland Coffee House: “I’m looking forward to my next birthday. I expect to get a lot of presents. Hint hint.” Birthday release seems likely https://coffeehouse.oaklandcoffee.com/morning-roasts/morning-roast-billie-joe-armstrong2 points

The year 2022 is "an uncharted territory" for Green Day (quote from Sanity Loan due to my limited vocabulary). They seemed very happy at the shows (going to Paris show next year, with my sister!), and I am happy for them. I wonder, if the EP will be more uplifting than "sad GD mode ON"? Not carelessly uplifting like Trilogy or FOAM, more like Revolution Radio-like, but with more deviation from standard sound? So exciting to speculate as it is getting closer!2 points

So far, just Tré, and in the caption he said, “Here’s lookin’ at you, kid!” Anyone else think he’s quoting a lyric?2 points

The "Casablanca" connection is an intriguing one, maybe they'll be a 40s Hollywood tinge to the promotional stuff or something.1 point

Although since they recorded in London, I’m sure it’s a British producer Nah, they could’ve just used Otis for that1 point

Bullied him? Not unsubstantiated at all they were his tweets harassing his ex and her statements backing them up. But that was years ago so your comment is ridiculous anyway1 point

Yeah, I have them from the deluxe edition, but I just think it would be amazing to have those covers on vinyl. They're so fucking good and really show off just how exceptionally talented they are and how much range they have.1 point

Anyone wanna bet 1972 is the name of both the album (or EP) and the lead single?1 point

Wow... Well, it certainly took a while, but goddamnit, I'm actually really excited again! In fact, last time I was this excited must have been during the whole traumatic MOOTIK experience. Whatever it is (and their trailers are unfortunately known to be hideously unrepresentative), it sounds good! Kinda reminds me a little bit of that sax part in Homecoming actually (and that's only a good thing). I think, if this indeed to be an EP/Album or even just a stand alone release, there are two more or less realistic options: 1) Their sound sticks somewhat to the FOAM formula 2) They keep the classic rock throwback vibe, but it's an improvement over FOAM, with some Longshot and FBHT vibes once again, but some new sounds also, perhaps even with a hint of 2000-2004 Green Day in there, who knows...1 point

American Idiot had 13 songs, or technically 21 if you break up JOS and Homecoming1 point

I don't think another GD album will exceed 12 songs (and I also don't WANT it). I think that's the golden number for them. Anything beyond that makes me nervous about the songwriting process1 point
