It’s like there’s the Green Day that most people know by their hit records only and the Green Day that superfans know that includes everything they really do and they’re like two different bands or something. Anyone who says they’re not a fan because of Dookie or AI I just think yeah but you don’t really know the Green Day I know.6 points

It may be a bit if a retcon, but I think that’s why Billie prefers to think of Stop Drop and Roll! as the real follow up album to American Idiot and in retrospect he wishes that album was released under Green Day. You can hear him talk about that here: https://open.spotify.com/episode/3rRd81HelfAb9LxZt0Wfrg?si=tQLOki0sRYG39Uv87u8yNg5 points

Blew me away! I was already excited but figured "yeah it's live versions of songs we already have many live versions of with a few deeper cuts" but I've found myself listening all day. Every song sounds FANTASTIC!4 points

Just like Avril....except she died. And sort of like Kurt Cobain...who got plastic surgery so he could form Weezer. Eminem and Paul McCartney and many more have rumors of this.3 points

I got my CD. There’s no jewel case it’s just a gatefold cardboard sleeve like a mini album. Book in one side, disc in the other. Interesting3 points

I hadn't watched that interview before but that's interesting. I like 21CB as a follow up to AI, I think the band spent much more time making that album than Stop Drop & Roll but SD&R is also a really good album and I would really like if more people heard it. Like, the amount of plays it has on spotify is very low & considering what has come out since (trilogy, FOAM), it really just sounds like a Green Day album. At the time, it was a very different sound for them but now it just sounds like Green Day I wonder what the reaction would've been if they released it as a Green Day album and how it would compare to the reaction to 21CB3 points

I think it speaks to how great a performer Billie is that we know what he was dealing with and going though at the time and he still put on a killer performance like this! I also happen to know for a fact that there were some GDC members I’m attendance there (not me!). Couldn't have put it better myself. I think the 21CB tour was probably the peak (so far?) of Green Day as a touring band. Deep setlists, incredible hours long performances night in and night out, stage presentation was A+, it had an extra leg for godsakes. So glad we got AAF to commemorate.3 points

That’s it - whenever I’m given an opportunity to explain to someone outside the fandom that GD in fact has a quite diverse discography, I keep it simple and just say that some of their albums came out under an alias or just not mention that they’re side projects at all. Usually people are pleasantly surprised3 points

Its kind of one of those weird things, where I think fans of the band always felt like it was kind of the follow up album and 21cb was more of a new era for them, but of course things are seen differently by the general public because I doubt they were also searching the internet daily for any mention of anything new from the band like I was back then. While they might have been a bit disappointed if SD&R was actually released under the GD name, I think the wait would have payed off massively once 21cb came out, just as it did for me as a fan. I'll always remember that one time I heard Mother Mary on the radio and when asked by someone I knew what it was I just kept it simple and told them it was a new Green Day album, so there's that I guess 😂 It was an interesting interview but I am a bit sad that Billie didn't go more into detail and explain why SD&R should have been a Green Day album, as well as even a mention of 21cb and how that could have changed the situation for the better, or something.. I don't know but thanks for sharing that!3 points

Okay just finished listening and I’m sorry if this is going to be a long post but I have to get this out so here goes: I know these songs were selected for different reasons and over the course of many years so before any of you @ me, I’m aware this is just serendipity but hearing these songs this way and in this order tells such a perfect story arc of his life during those years (as the albums do of course so no coincidence but removing the nonconforming songs this is compressed with just the best songs chosen somehow to tell this story) that I was overcome emotionally listening to this. I can’t believe it worked out this way. These tracks are in order and here is what I heard: (Pre-fame writings, or the kind of stuff a kid would write in his bedroom about girls, growing up and anxiety, but pure and untouched by fame)— She WICA Basket Case 2000LYA (Post Fame)… (Drugs/Despair)— Geek Stink Breath Brain Stew/Jaded (Doubt)— Walking Contradiction Stuck With Me (Alcohol)— HAR (Doubt)— Nice Guys Finish Last Prosthetic Head (Rebirth)— Castaway (Repair)— Church on Sunday (Acceptance)— Minority (Hope/Redemption)— Waiting And of course what is that thing that comes next for him, that big moment to come that he’s destined for? He didn’t know it yet but it turns out to be American Idiot of course. What a story arc this is. Seriously I know this wasn’t planned but that’s hard to believe when you hear it. It’s the story of his life during those years. Incredible. To me this was more than just a rerelease of old songs and I wasn’t expecting that. Sonically I agree with Billie the Warning tracks in particular come alive here and are my favorite but all of this has so much energy. No one sounds like them. Greatest band in the world 💚3 points

I was inspired by this whole conversation (which no longer has anything to do with the next album, sorry guys) to pull out my own recording from the Chula Vista amphitheater show and am listening to it now. It's cringey hearing me from ten years ago lose my shit, but damned if Billie Joe isn't a master of the crowd. And musically, they were 100% on point. I've been lucky enough to see some amazing shows from some amazing artists, and even if I can't say with 100% certainty that this was the best, it was definitely right up there.2 points

I think it might have been much more popular if the iHeartRadio incident never happened and Billie didn’t enter rehab. Once he entered rehab, all promotion stopped!!! Oh Love was getting a lot of radio play that summer!!! And then this performance of Let Yourself Go at the 2012 MTV VMA’s!!! Look how the fans stormed the stage!!!2 points

I picked up the clear vinyl version last night. The story of the album is a real treat, with some bands to check out and Green Day factoids most haven't heard before. There isn't anything else inside, so don't expect a lyric sheet or additional artwork. This will be the first Green Day release I bought on vinyl before cd, and I don't even know that I want a cd version. The songs are great and I almost want Album 14 to be recorded in this way. a combo of FOAM and American Idiot but made in a quasi-live fashion could be just what the band and fans need. Oh - my unboxing video is filmed and coming soon.1 point

Basketcase, oh Basketcase. You've become the most streamed Green Day of all time. Not because you are good but because you are on 10+ releases by the band. I was going to say I'm surprised Billie doesn't lose his mind during this song more often, but I see what's happening here. He doesn't want admit it, but he doesn't really want to play a new song. Billie wants to exclusively play Basketcase forever now. Don't get me wrong, I like Basketcase fine. But it becoming the defining song of Green Day is just..... there are better songs. better singles.1 point

an unmixed version of 409 came out on the Basketcase single. i've not heard that christie road was re-recorded during those sessions, but i wouldn't be surprised.1 point

If you’re implying they’re currently on tour for their previous album, they’re clearly not. The last album never got a tour and never will. This is a legacy tour and the rules don’t apply. Without Warner to answer to, they don’t have to follow an album/tour cycle anymore or any other traditional format.1 point
