via GD facebook: "We now interrupt your weekly BBC Live Sessions broadcasts to announce that we'll be releasing a NEW song this week. "Holy Toledo!" from the movie Mark, Mary + Some Other People is out everywhere this Friday." OUT NOW!6 points

This really is classic trilogy (or FBHT/Dos) shit, very Dirty Rotten Bastards like in content. We’re carried away, carried away… with all the death references, the party til you die thing. He said he likes to write from the perspective of his younger self these days and I’m assuming his party days are some of his fondest most fun memories to look back on and write about from a place of safety having survived it.6 points

far better... this song is a strong 60s power pop a la stray heart/mother mary... i think its incredible6 points

Omg I fucking love it! Agree with the Town Called Malice bit but I love that song, and the little tempo and instrumental change is really cool. The song has a lot of variety packed in three minutes, not repetitive at all like HCTS and others off FOAM. And the lyrics are actually good. This is a lot of fun 💚6 points

I agree, it’s a big step up musically from HCTS or most the stuff on FOAM. I just wish Billie would write about something else, anything else other than partying your blues away. That being said, the execution is better this go-round. Can’t wait to hear it in higher quality.5 points

Lyrics: I want to go where the trouble begins And the morning after smells just like a dirty ashtray Oh give me shame lock me in the shower The penitentiary elementary school for losers If this is how it’s gonna end Then it feels all right Baby let’s get sick again We’re hell raisers Death wish cravers We’re running with razor blades Party favors Sex with strangers We don’t care what the neighbors say If this is how it’s gonna end Cuz it feels all right Baby let’s get sick again Crawling out of a dead man’s bed Well we don’t want to know Well we don’t want to know I’m killing myself just to live Well we don’t want to go Well we don’t want to go5 points

It does! This is so exciting!!!!!!! I hope they bring back this vibe! The freedom and openness of the Trilogy was amazing. A lot of people feel a connection to this type of writing. Plus, a lot of the songs were not just killer good but a lot of them were fun too. This is so exciting! So excited about the new song! What little Mother Mary reference? I missed it! So excited! I woke up to this! New to the party!4 points

I was playing L.A. Noire last night and saved a guy who was being held at gunpoint by a robber by shooting the robber in the head, and the guy exclaimed "holy toledo!" . Gonna take it as a sign that the song will be awesome. Edit: Found video of it lol4 points

FOAM had some songs that were better and some worse songs imo. But I don't get why people think that Pollyanna is like leagues ahead of everything on FOAM4 points
-
I agree with @Beerjeezus and give me points if you want but I think we should be able to give a viewpoint on this. Brit is literally keeping Mike from being with the other guys because he's having to make a choice between them and her, and it greatly affects the band. So if she posts about being with Mike while pretty much everyone else in Green Day's orbit is in London, I think it's very relevant.4 points

I’m no fan of FOAM. But it was more interesting and enjoyable than HCTS and Pollyanna.4 points

That was unexpected!!! Artwork looks extremely reminiscent of trilogy era.4 points

This is definitely the best track from this year's releases! Hope they keep on experimenting with their Songwriting. I believe Billie still has more to give.3 points

Played the song for Brandon. His first comment: What the fuck is it with these razorblades?3 points
-
It was produced by Butch Walker, he is credited on Spotify, so this is probably just a Father Of All leftover3 points

Keeps growing more and more on me. The chorus hook is so good!3 points

I agree because there HAS TO be something else to write about, hasn’t it, but this is/has been an important aspect of his life for better or worse so it makes sense he’s writing about it.3 points
-
I honestly think his wild party days are the happiest memories for him or something maybe he doesn’t know what else to write about at this point but I’d like to see him try. I agree though this is a big step up in quality so I don’t mind3 points

So glad they're still doing this rock n roll style stuff despite peoples thoughts on FOAMF. Have had a smile on my face for the past hour Only thing annoying me is the dynamic range, feels like it should explode in volume after that intro but it's all just a bit squashed. Could just be this youtube version but don't have too much faith as that feels like a Butch Walker thing3 points
-
Hey that was really good! So much variety sonically. I feel like their recent work has lacked this kind of unpredictability. I didn't know the whole song after the first verse/chorus! Only negative is the overuse of that Mother Mary riff. They've used it at least 3 times and it's also super common in rock history.3 points
-
I mean I love Insomniac so if I’m complaining about how I can’t hear his voice, you know it’s bad. Still SO glad it’s not like the garbage that is HCTS. I’m just going to bleach that from my brain.3 points

Mother Mary Pt. 2 ... Catchy, but I can't understand anything he's saying. Why does the mix sound so weird?3 points
-
Honestly after a few more listens this does sound like something that could’ve came out of the trilogy. If they go in this direction I’ll be very happy3 points
-
the artwork is giving me trilogy vibes of course Let' see!3 points
-
The lyrics are real. It opens with a dreamy piano/vocal solo part before going into a fast paced chorus similar to more recent releases. Also has this weird vibe at one point similar to Town Called Malice. Overall I like it but the mixing is a bit off and the vocals sometimes get drowned out in the chorus. I prefer it to what they’ve released since FOAM3 points
-
Will it ever be performed live though? That is the question. I know everybody on here wants Good Riddance to be replaced with HERE COMES THE SHOCK. I hope Holy Toledo replaces a big hit as well.3 points

I think there's a good chance all/most of the songs we're hearing now or in the near future originated from FOAM (whether cut from the album/considered to be on the album or just written at the time), unless they say otherwise. I really like it!2 points
-
Ah thanks. It was two playing at the same time before I removed the one I could see which seems weird. Hopefully will go when I clear cache - mainly just wanted to stop it for others reading the thread though so no problem if it's just me.2 points

it was produced by Butch Walker, so I guess it still is a FOAM Leftover2 points

Ok travelled to NZ to get the official YouTube version 😛 Cute song, really nice considering it was such an unexpected release out of nowhere. Those drums kicking in at 150% volume really woke me up tho 😂 Nah it’s 100 times better than that super compressed reupload.2 points

I really like the rhythm changes, the intro is super cool, I love the second verse and above all the central "special" that changes by bpm. I find some fresh air in this song! Since I read the title yesterday I was expecting something of a kind of sound between a Mexican saloon and a garage, it is a bit between Mother Mary and a bit Stray Heart, but it's organic, and it works in my opinion, and I find it right as a soundtrack of a movie.2 points

Can't stop listening. Seriously this song is good.2 points

Sure sounds like him. And it fits the vibe of the movie the whole “sex with strangers” thing2 points

Same. (Source: I live in Toledo.) 😂 Kidding, I'm excited, and I can't wait for the secret show they're obviously going to play here. (Again, kidding. I legitimately couldn't think of a venue in this useless city for such an event!)2 points

Title and artwork are cool! Can't wait And it's another random Ohio reference (along with "when the nuclear bomb landed in Ohio") @AlissaGoesRAWR2 points
