I was talking with my mom today about my car and the various minor repairs I've done on it and then we went on a tangent about how older cars are easier to diy repair because they are all mechanical and don't have a computer in them like newer ones and someone we know just sold a car he rebuilt for like 80k and I said "You wouldn't know it by looking at him, but Billie Joe really likes rebuilding and restoring old cars." She said that didn't surprise her at all. She said "Oh, I can totally see that. If I were to guess his hobbies that would be one that I would put at the top of the list! He looks like a gear-head."

I hope Billie actually writes a song called Shut The F!@#$ Up When October Begins. I imagine the same riff from Wake Me Up, but fast and gnarly. Very heavy metal. Some industrial vibes. And of course, Father of All style vocals. Maybe a musical nod to Too Dumb to Die as well, because that's one of their best.

Either Billie's doesn't care enough to correct these kinds of people because they are not personally important in his life and he doesn't care what impression of him they have or he's just too nice. Or both. Or something else. Yeah, what @Hermione said. Liam spelled it "Billy" because that's how a non-Green Day fan would most likely spell it along with making such a stupid, tired joke in the first place. Adds to the whole "oMG YoU GUyZ WAKe uP ThE grEEn DaY GUy!" vibe.

I felt like Billie was trying to be nice and didn't wanna correct him by telling him that it's completely false, so he kinda tried to just brush over it and talk about his dad generally/ But yeah either way the whole thing is cringe and I can't even watch the video when he tells Billie the story

I think Billie didn't even get that it was that story. I think he thought Stern was just vaguely imagining the situation when he was younger and that when Stern said "and you go 'wake me up when september ends'" he thought he was just talking about when he wrote the song. Billie thinks the "story" is that his dad died and it was tragic and years later he still remembered how he felt and wrote a song about it. It's so cringe that as well as just fans making these solemn "don't joke about WMUWSE" posts there's now media/news posts about it too. When I see them on social media with non gd fans commenting as well I can't take how embarassing it is lol. The joke is it's a low effort joke and low effort spelling of his name adds to that, along with low effort typing in all lower case. Can also be seen as a nod to people who aren't even Green Day fans (and therefore don't know how to spell Billie's name) making bad attempts at the joke each year.

I was flipping through my Billie photos on my computer last night and decided to play a little game where I state which era a particular photo is from as fast as I can (specifically "is it AI or 21CB?"). I discovered by doing this that sometimes it's difficult to discern, especially late AI Billie when he had longer, fluffier hair. This just reinforces how ageless he can be. For example: The first is AI, the second is 21CB. Almost identical except for the level of eye makeup. I know for a fact the first two are AI and the second two are 21CB, but if I didn't already, it would be difficult to tell. These two I highly suspect are AI, but I don't know for sure and it's honestly anyone's guess. A handful of times I had to double take to decide whether a photo was 21CB or RevRad! How does he do it?!

@Slave To The Network I could not agree more! I have my pics sorted by era but did it quite recently and it was tough to decide which went where. It’s often down to what he’s wearing, the first two the leather jacket has no collar so I know it’s AI, the second it has a small collar and he wore it zipped up a lot so it’s 21CB. The first of the last two I think didn’t appear until a few years ago, I hadn’t seen it earlier but I think by the shirt it must be 21CB (put it in both folders just in case - now you know the extent of my habit) 😂😂 Third from the bottom is from AI premiere on Broadway and that messes my head as it’s during 21CB but about AI - the stress! 😂😂

Yeah it’s possible that he didn’t connect with with the story, even though I doubt he didn’t hear it before considering it’s everywhere. It’s super embarrassing, especially since people usually make the joke without any bad intent, they probably remember to make a cheesy joke about the song because they like it and it gives the band attention and higher streaming numbers every year.
