Just finished listening to this and it is fantastic! It was such a nice, intimate interview. There's a good mix of history that we already know along with some new insights into what he was feeling when Dookie made it big or when they starting working on AI. The two things I really thought were interesting were is feelings towards 21CB and him reflecting on the Iheart incident. There was something really humbling to hear him talk about it and realize it was fucked up but then walk away from it saying he wasn't embarrassed by it. This is definitely better than any of the interviews we got during the FOAM era. I would LOVE to have a whole series with him like this. I could listen to him talk all day. And acoustic arrangements....beautiful. Absolutely stunning. It was so cool to hear songs like KYE and AI in an acoustic setting. Never thought I'd say this, but now I really want an all acoustic GD album Thank @Beyza for uploading this!! I'm so happy I was able to listen to it11 points

Psh, it's called "welcome to my panic" and he didn't even play welcome to paradise or panic song 😑9 points

I'm sad that we might not get another 21stCB, but I'm glad it's one of his favourites. Looking forward to what's next for Green Day. He seems to be in a happy place and ready to move on from the party mode and do something more meaningful?7 points

I'm really digging these arrangements. The versions are so good it's almost a shame they aren't officially released somewhere where they could get some sales and streams. I can't believe he managed to make Good Riddance even catchier. It's like he doubled down on some of these.7 points

I was floored by Good Riddance. I’m glad we have a version of this song after it was teased from that Colbert performance back during RevRad.6 points

It’s interesting to hear how instrumental Rob was to AI happening when it did. They had hit a creative wall and were struggling with their direction when he reminded them they talked about making a monumental album some day and that now was that time. He had an excellent instinct for the timing, just when it seemed to others like the band could be done. It literally saved them (because they were capable of making that monumental album of course, Green Day gets all the credit for that). Another interesting thing I learned — Billie isn’t interested in writing from his present experience as an older person so while everything up to the trilogy seemed to be describing his present day life and feelings, since RevRad he’s been more reflective and looking back and that wasn’t just a blip because of rehab. So the fact that he’s writing songs again about drugs and partying may have been a reflection of his current status on prior albums, now he’s writing from the point of view of his youth and prefers it. Not sure if I prefer it, but it’s a conscious choice.5 points

Really he didn't have to do this I was already impressed by him but damn. 😲 Fucking genius.5 points

Another article on it that also mentions Hella Mega. https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/rock/9560649/green-day-billie-joe-armstrong-audible-original-interview5 points

I’m also thinking about the part where billie says he doesn’t think he’s stupid but he was failing in school and then he also mentions that at that time he was dealing with mental health issues that he didn’t even mention to anyone, because apparently that’s how you’d handle this stuff in the 80’s. I don’t know, whenever I hear a story like this, it makes me wonder how many neurodivergent people fell through before they could contribute to society and I get mad at people talking about how overly sensitive the young generation is, how kids with ADHD just need stricter discipline or how “no one had depression back in our day, I don’t know what’s wrong with your generation”.4 points

I like that in the Billboard article he said that Stop, Drop, and Roll was really the follow up to AI. That album is incredible especially since they basically wrote it in one night. I wonder what Green Day's legacy might be if they put some of their side projects under their name. Probably more respected.4 points

it was a joke. To beerjeezus. She will know I'm joking.4 points

I must be the only one here who hates soughdough. Anyway, I like to fangirl over Billie's brain too, as @jengd mentioned. He doesn't get enough credit for how smart he is because we're always focused on his physical features (and I count myself guilty of that too, of course). He's got a sharp mind in addition to the beauty. I'm excited to listen to the podcast because it will be super interesting to hear what goes on in his head.4 points

Gosh, this was amazing. Always a fan of acoustic versions of anything, but these were especially good. I love how they all sounded like they could have been on Warning. Really insightful stuff about the musical, Trilogy and rehab. Love how honest and open he was in telling those stories. Worst part is that I’m done listening to it and I feel like this needed to be another 10 hours to satisfy me.4 points

Graffitia sounded amazing as did all the songs they should make an acoustic album when he was talking about 80 moving from Minnesota I thought he was going to play Westbound Sign a top 5 of mine they need to play live. Excellent interview4 points

I really think if he was gonna put the original in here, he'd make special note of it. Sounds like a new arrangement just like all the other songs.3 points

Love to see Billie again, I missed him so much 💕💕💕 I expected more time, though... it was too little! 😭 And I think he's right about how songs make you feel/react. I don't feel it in my mouth 😅 but there are songs that push me to an aggressive mood and I guess I want to hit somebody. Hard. Not saying is alright, it's just a reaction. That's why I stopped listening to the radio at work. As for the good songs, the chills like he said, or feeling like I want to cry (of happiness) 💓3 points

Not sure I like it either. Being nostalgic is ok but it could seem that he's refusing to age. Another musician that seems refusing to age is Mark Hoppus (Blink-182) and it's weird to hear a 40 years old guy singing about high school or whatever. The songs on FOAM aren't that immature (in a way that we could think that's the way Billie's on the present). On the other hand, it's kind of a relief to hear him saying that's he's writing from the perspective from his young self because it could mean he hasn't completely relapsed and is doing lots of cocaine and other drugs. From this interview, I got a theory on why his lyrics aren't as good as the past. He's saying that making 21stCB was really difficult and I wonder how traumatic for him it was. During the trilogy era, I remember that in an interview he said that then he decided to write anything without the concern of the lyrics being good or making sense (remember Nuclear Family?). He had made the commitment with himself to write something everyday while he was in NY and to write what came on his mind. During this past decade we had some songs that were more thought out but, to me, the majority of them are way simpler that the ones from 90's and 00's and now I'm wondering if he's kind of refusing to go deeper/ think more about the lyrics because he's afraid of "suffering" as much as he did during 21stCB. *This whole post are made of my assumptions based on things Billie said and it doesn't mean this is the TRUTH of Billie's mind. In reality I know nothing.2 points

It's so nice to hear Billie to be honest and actually say something. And there was no politics included in this which is a huge plus. This once again reminded me why I love Billie and this band so so much. It's such a shame that Amazon put my account on hold for no reason because I'd buy this audiobook in a heartbeat.2 points

It says 'Green Day's European tour' in the update. Weezer & Fall out boy weren't booked for the first shows, including the show in Norway, so it doesn't have to mean anything. Just have to wait and see what they have decided. Hope they annonce the tour dates soon.2 points

something I just noticed because it happened with mine just now- the vinyl jacket on these are the kind where the disc pocket extends all the way through, rather than being two separate pockets. so if your lyric inserts get put too far in, they'll get all folded up n junk. just a heads up for other people that got the vinyl oh also- i noticed it incorrectly lists "that's how they get you" as the first track on side c. it's actually the last one on side b. if they fix that for future pressings it might make this pressing a fun rarity, but in all likelihood they'll just keep using the wrong jacket lol...2 points

I really enjoyed this. I just love how honest BJ went into the process from AI into the iHeart incident. I kind of relate to those times, as they were my darkest times too and those songs helped me moving forward, even if I still feeling stuck today in some matters. The acoustic renditions were amazing and tasteful. Know Your Enemy takes the spot easily. I never thought that someday I would be listening to a "Warnified" version of a song made by the man himself. I'll be listening again to catch missing details. But is strange to feel that sense of completeness with Green Day related material. Is nice, for once, getting that satisfaction. Is a nice day to live2 points

I was also going to say how much I love this version of WMUWSE. I wish there had been an extra 30 mins to talk about RevRad to present day though. Would have loved to have heard about the side projects as well. But glad we got this!2 points

I agree, it's much sadder, but I also think this calmer, acoustic version fits the song the best. It's more... vulnerable? Like it's not hiding behind the big full band sound that makes the album version seem more upbeat. I like all the acoustic arrangements. I was listening to it on shitty old speakers, so maybe I'm wrong, but did I hear some accordion on Know Your Enemy? I love the folk punk twist to this song. And American Idiot has cool guitars, it's sort of country-ish.2 points

Hey everyone, it took very long but finally uploaded to audio file to youtube just to make it accesible for more people (hopefully if it will stay for an enough time) Btw, it’s also really easy to access freely from Audible, if you are from outside the us or whatever. I can also tell that if you’re interested.2 points

My LP just showed up! Beautiful packaging, the jacket has a real nice feel to it too. One thing I noticed tho is that whoever did the layout fucked up the spine and made all the text upside down from how it normally reads on LP spines hahaha. I'm aware that's the smallest, geekiest nitpick though...1 point
