  1. The unicorn is drunk and puking, it's a joke. But it's no different from having Ernie on the back of Dookie or the Drunk Bunny. These guys have always had a cartoon quality about them but I think that's more an extension of their own goofiness and immaturity and not the age group they're aimed at

  3. How exactly was it marketed to children? They did a deal with the NHL and Harley-Davidson not Kelloggs, Skechers or Fisher Price. Was it tied in to any children's products or brands? I'm not seeing how the marketing strategy was aimed at an under 18 demographic. I think the aesthetic and coke references were childish (meaning the product of immature minds) but that's not the same as aimed to sell to children.

  4. Other than the parents splitting up part, they also got wrong when they said the band still lived in the warehouse while making Dookie (they were already at the Ashby house by then) and yet again, saying WICA is about Adrienne when Billie has said in at least two interviews that it's not. And if I had a dollar for every time an interviewer called him pint sized or pocket sized...

  7. Billie has said many times that he has a panic disorder. But yeah the part about his parents splitting up is ridiculous

  8. My Gen Z’er is always on TikTok, she never uses Instagram. Everything skews older than you realize. As soon as parents get on a platform, the kids go somewhere else. RevRad was a mature period because it was a sober period. Then Billie decided growing up was overrated and started drinking again and regressed with FOAM. Definitely a sign of immaturity. I think aging scares the hell out of him.

  9. I don't see it as being marketed towards children either. The standard 16-29 demographic that everyone is always after, yes. I definitely don't think their marketing was good last time around though. It felt scattered and they need to examine it going forward. Also, I would categorize Rev Rad as, I've accepted I'm an adult, and FOAM as, but I don't want to be an adult!

  10. I don't know, TikTok isn't just for twelve year olds anymore. They were trying to get a video to go viral but that's different from marketing directly to children. Gen Zers are in their twenties now and they all use TikTok

  11. UMMMM EXCUSE ME! Who gave you the permission to be that hot, Billie?! I don't see a license for that look, mister! It's the pic from Jonathan Weiner's Instagram post. Better to see it than just a link.

  16. I don’t think it’s about it being marketed to children. It’s just crush management not knowing how to promote Green Day. They’re trying to promote them like FOB and it’s back firing and maybe the band doesn’t care, but the album underperformed. I also want to add the just because Green Day is doing this tour doesn’t mean they cared who the tour was with. I think the main thing for them was that they wanted to do stadiums but they definitely couldn’t do it by themselves. I remember seeing an interview with Def Leppard and Joe Elliot said that they don’t really care who opens for them. He explained it as they handed them a paper that said Styx and Tesla and they were like “Whatever”. I think the same thing is kinda happening here where Green Day really don’t care who the tour is with as long as they can fill up stadiums. Especially after the billboard interview and the “Dream collaborations” question and then Billie walking off. The point comes back to the fact that Scott Nagleberg is an idiot because aside from 4 or 5 sold out shows and a handful of others that are close there are some markets ticket sales that are really ugly for this tour even before COVID. I think the Green Day/ Weezer tour would be great for arenas and amphitheaters but adding on FOB doesn’t push this bill to a stadium show aside from a few markets. If Green Day truly wanted to go through stadiums is with great ticket sales they should’ve done Green Day/Blink 182/Weezer or Green Day/Foo Fighters/Weezer. The point at the end of the day is that Crush sucks at marketing and managing.

  18. So, because I enjoy - and like FOAM - I'm not a self-respecting, mature adult? I didn't realize that a 30-something was no longer considered a mature adult because of album they like... That's fine if you don't like it and I respect that you don't, but don't insult those that do.
    2 points
  19. Except that he isn’t. Sonically, the album is very well executed. If you don’t like the songs that’s fine, but that’s Billie Joe who’s responsible for that.

  20. The ironic thing about the move is if it was made as an attempt to help them seem cool and relevant again the marketing made them come off like the oldest bunch of boomers you ever saw, stuck in some kind of throwback rock and roll fantasy world that couldn’t be more uncool

  24. Either would be so much better than HM. I agree The Foos might be too big for this type of tour, but they could take turns like on the tour with Blink and I’d be happy. A normal tour is still the best option though.

  25. a simple arena tour with Weezer would have been awesome and would definitely have sold out. I agree I don’t think FOB has the capacity to elevate this much. Foo Fighters definitely but then there would have been a fight over who headlined, especially with different management Let’s not have this debate again. Of course I’m not talking about a typical adult and social drinking, but a self described alcoholic post-rehab. It’s a sign of regression not progress.

  29. This album has all the same bells and whistles of every Butch Walker produced album and every one of them are shit. There’s a reason that whenever he tries to produce a more rock oriented band the album gets slammed. Maybe I should rephrase that he’s a great pop music producer but a shitty rock music producer.

  30. I would consider HM if it was PATD instead of FOB. Yeah, I blame Crush for all the poor FOAM decisions. Some of them are just fucking baffling. I think the thing that still bothers me is how week of release was JAM PACKED with interviews and random performances......and then silence. And this was before COVID hit.

  32. The fact that they all had the same management made this lineup possible, so I guess this was the best combo among the choices they had. Not that they couldn't have gone to outside bands but it would have been a more complicated business deal likely. I don't know, I just remember them mentioning that in the interviews, that this happened because they were all with Crush.

  33. I’m just wondering - couldn’t they find an actually good artist to tour with them? I’m thinking someone bigger and more mainstream than The Interrupters, Against Me and other bands they played with last tour... you know, someone like MGK, Yungblud etc. I’m not a fan of either of them, but I wouldn’t mind seeing a current, fresh pop-punk act before Green Day. It would be loads better. It would be a lot more fun than the travelling circus of a lineup they came up with.

  34. I LOVE Weezer, don't mind a few Fallout Boy songs. And I think Patrick has a great voice. This really could still happen if the vaccine distribution goes into supercharged fast mode with the new administration.

  38. Last Night, I had a dream Green Day was playing my auditorium from High School. It was almost like they were part of a battle of the bands. They played Stay the Night and I watched from sidestage. But then left for some reason. Had lots of stress dreams last night so I was bouncing around everywhere. Phoebe Bridgers was trying to help me become an artist manager? Strange Strange things.

  39. Green Day still haven’t made any official statement themselves about the cancellation of the Asia tour have they? We know it’s been canceled from news articles and ticket providers info, but Green Day have been so MIA lately on socials they still haven’t said anything to fans. Not sure what they’ll say if anything when Europe gets canceled. The President just announced that we won’t have enough vaccine for all Americans who want it until late summer at the earliest so I can’t see summer concerts happening here either.
    1 point
  40. Same. I was hoping to see them in a smaller venue or an arena. The warm up shows they used to do before every tour was something I always wanted to see and it seems they’re popular among fans. For the same reason there was a lot of excitement about The Longshot. Billie’s talking about effective touring might say a lot about the future or not at all. He clearly seems to enjoy playing small venues so this might be something he said to push the notion that HM is a good idea, but it’s not indicative of any long term plans. Or it’s possible that they simply can’t pull off playing so many shows anymore and this is how they chose to adapt.

  41. I still think that's wishful thinking. Honestly in the US it feels like were trying to speed up the recovery process because we have a vaccine out. Where I am, we got put into tier 2 meaning in door dining can resume and such and I think it's a terrible idea. We did something like that last year and numbers spiked. I just don't see concerts happening this year either. I would love to be wrong about that, but right now I just don't see it.

  42. Do you really hate FOB that much? Damn. I was totally psyched for Hella Mega, but I guess I'm glad that it's postponed (if not cancelled). Now I can get my money back and see them on the next tour!

  43. i dont know how it works for the US, but in germany (europe) show/festivals promoters/organizers cant say sth like "ya, not gonna happen obviously" because of their insurance contracts, they have to go on as if all of this will happen, they have to wait for the officials / politicians to cancel big events like this, then they can cancel it and get their insurance money if the organizers cancel shows/festivals now, before there is a official cancellation by the politicians, they wont get full insurance money

  44. Can we get a new strain of the virus or something? Please?

  45. “My manager just told me yesterday that the US promoter is still saying it’s gonna happen,” he says, before giving an exaggerated shrug that suggests he’s given up trying to predict the future. “That could change, but I’m not making any other plans for the summer.” Rivers Cuomo still thinks it's happening. https://www.nme.com/features/weezer-ok-human-van-weezer-hella-mega-tour-fall-out-boy-green-day-2864359
