I think they'd make the same political points as Green Day, it's nothing that extreme. The Network was just a fun way to do it this time. They could release all their side stuff as Green Day (and it would sell more if they did) but having different bands and secret identities etc just makes things more interesting and is another part of the creativity, and they sacrifice some sales and recognition for that. I'd say not doing a big promotional push is more just part of the fun of keeping The Network a bit of a secret than because of any worries about the content being heard by more people.
