I think Billie's voice was the thing that made me get into Green Day. The majority of singers' voices are either annoying or uninteresting, and most singers in GD's genre all have the same affected whiny voice, and that stops me getting into them at the first hurdle. Billie's voice is wonderful to listen to.9 points

I completely understand if you don’t like his voice, I have artists who I feel exactly the same about, just can’t help it nor explain it, I just find it really interesting that you can then like the band, I know I can’t in my case. I think though, you have possibly picked his worst two live vocal performances in his entire career which seems a little harsh. Lots of people don’t like a falsetto, I’m not mad keen on it, but I will always support an artist trying something new and I think he totally nails it on Degenerate.8 points

So I finally listened to the record and I guess it's an unpopular opinion but Popper Punk rocks. I don't know what it is, but I like it! It's just kind of weird and it sucks you in the more you listen to it. There's something hypnotic about it. I have to listen to the album more, but overall I like it. There are some bangers, some that are okay, and some songs I could do without. Ones I love right away are Theory of Reality, Degenerate, The Art of the Deal with the Devil, Pizzagate (though I wish it were longer), and Jerry Falwell's Pool Party, which does anyone else think the harmonica part on that song sound like the harmonica from Clint Eastwood by Gorillaz?8 points

This is just what everyone says whenever Green Day make something they don't like or aren't impressed by though. It's ok to just not like it without trying to claim other people don't really like it either. We like it! If you think people here won't admit to not liking something from GD you should see some of the posts about Uno Dos Tre and FOAM lol I think FBHT are also loved more because of their unbeatable shows, and Stop Drop and Roll > Money Money 2020. But MM2020 Part 2 is on par with Stop Drop and Roll and all the secretive stuff and promotion has been so much fun! They're both great but The Network have upped their game with this comeback.7 points

I don't know why people are hating on Popping Punk. I fucking love it!7 points

I heard all of those influences in this record. There is a shit ton of Ramones influence though.7 points

Okay fangirls, I've listened to The Network album a few times now and @Hermione was right...these Fink vocals..... *shudders* His singing on "Degenerate" and "The Art of the Deal with the Devil" make me melt. I don't know what it is, but lately Fink is really doing it for me. Move over Billie, step aside [REDACTED], Kevin....well Kevin can stay put. But FINK! OH MY LORD. Whenever his songs come on the new record my mind goes fkasjfoudshgosjngklajedsfh because I can't handle it. And I'm not gonna lie, some NFM and Foxies came on shuffle after the album was done and man, Billie's voice is really doing it for me lately. It's giving me chills and...other feelings. *fans self* Is it suddenly getting hot in here?6 points

Billie in sunglasses is cool (he can even rock women's sunglasses) but Billie in regular glasses is surprisingly one of his hottest looks ever. Wish we saw him in them more. For example:6 points

Wow..... you certainly post a lot on this forum for someone who “checked-out” after 2005. The Network was always my favourite side-project by far. Is Pt II as consistent or coherent as the first record - definitely not; but I don’t think that’s the point. There are some really fun, and experimental tracks here, and anything that gets the guys creative juices going has got to be good for the band and the fans going forward. I’m an oldie and been following the band since the early 90’s and if you’d played me FOAM back then I would barely have recognised them as the same band; but I guess their ability to try new things (admittedly some more successful than others) is the reason I’m still a fan 25+ years later. And FOAM is a great record by the way.....6 points

Sorry to interrupt, but I caved and bought the LP from the site. That is all6 points

I'm a little behind, but tonight I'm halfway through my first listen of the whole LP. This is the first time in so long that I haven't spoiled the crap out of an album with a leak. I was simply busy, but I love that I haven't heard so many songs! If you guys needs lyrics, AZlyrics has most of the songs and seems to be mostly correct. They don't have "That's How They Get You" yet, but all the others are there. I'm reading along, because that's usually how I fall in love with a record quicker. I'm making notes as I traverse this weird landscape. So far, my only complaint is that Van Gough has not appeared nearly enough. Perhaps on the tail end of the album. *a quick note on Tarantula - Out of sight but not out of mind, a line from Fell for Snoo. Also, The Network like to offend with topic instead of f-bombs. I like that.6 points

There were fans from Gilman saying Green Day were done in 1994. That’s always gonna happen. I appreciate their stages in their evolution and I’m enjoying the ride even as I have particular favorites there’s nothing I outright hate or think that it signals the end of their career. If you don’t like something wait until the next thing5 points

For me, Billie's voice is like a shot of dopamine or serotonin. I can come out of a bad meeting, put on GD, and, well, picture a long contented sigh and blood pressure going down. It doesn't matter what song it is. That's why I had such a hard time believing the Viva Death songs were him; I just wasn't getting that same feeling when listening to them. His voice just has an effect on me that no other singer's, even other favorites, does.5 points

Videos don't generally do Billie's voice justice. When we first got videos of the RevRad Tour, everyone was complaining about his voice and before I went to any shows, I did wonder if he was going off a bit. As soon as I heard them soundchecking outside the venue, I knew I was wrong. He sounded so much better in person. I know even people who did go to shows said his heart wasn't in it when he was singing Still Breathing, but I never got that impression. Very occasionally I felt the band (not just Billie) were going through the motions in general but that's because they're human and long tours are hard going. I also only noticed because I went to a lot of shows. It wasn't at all obvious to people who hadn't. As for Father of All, this performance was so good in person (and the soundcheck was even better) that I went from hating the song to really quite liking it. It was one of the highlights of the show for sure. In this case I think he sounds pretty good on the video too. That could be bias because I was there (and I'm in the video so of course I enjoy it ) but it definitely wasn't at the time, since I thought the song was one of the worst things they'd ever done and expected to stand there cringing. Green Day proved me wrong as usual!5 points

The album leaked 2 weeks before the album dropped and even if you didn't get the leak several songs were heard prior to the album dropping. You knew you didn't like it before you bought it. You actually really like the album.5 points

I had Theory of Reality in my head all night long during my dream. I slept so bad. At least I had a good bad dream song.5 points

I was dancing to Theory of Reality at home all morning, this song is killer. I hope they will play it live one day5 points

I've got say. I'm going to have a tough time piecing together the concept/story of this thing. One really great thing about this record - the time travel. I've never heard another singer claim to have time traveled. They always WANT to, but never do. Now I'm singing Cher. great.5 points

That would be hilarious. 3/4 of the attendance wouldn't have a clue what the hell is happening5 points

It's great for the band musically not in regards to pleasing the hardcore or casual fans. I thought the experiment helped push them forward with new ideas that can be extrapolated on for their next project.5 points

I was in Arizona for a family wedding years ago. Obviously, everyone thinks of the Grand Canyon for AZ. Me? I wanted to go to the mall where Bill (I started typing Billie there ) and Ted's Excellent Adventure was shot. To my family out there, it was just a mall whereas I was all excited.4 points

It's crazy to think that we had 50 songs between new ones and covers this year. For me it was something unexpected. Do you guys remember something like this before?4 points
-
Yeah they could have tightened it up for sure. I also think it's great for GD. Overall it's a fun record for the fans. Some of the quirky stuff brings the rating down a bit but as a GD fan I find the humor and charm in it.4 points

I think if they were trying to make a really great 12 song network album they could’ve done it with the songs here, but it’s clear that the intention was just a fun sonic release and pallette cleanser. This is good for both the network and Green Day4 points
-
This would be so funny if on the Hella Mega tour Green Day finish their set and The Network come out to do two or three songs as encores. The whole acoustic Good Riddance encore is getting stale anyway. They just have to do a quick costume change in the wings and then give some story of how Green Day left and they’re taking over. It would be a funny way to end the shows (and would totally beat Weezer’s barbershop quartet encore) And now we know why4 points

What you're saying sounds fine and all but I have a hard time believing that. I mean Green Day were in a much much worse situation with warning and then while making american idiot and yet they did their own thing and it just succeeded. If the label didn't stand on their way back then why would it now that rock music is dead anyway? I cannot believe they would just for the shake of their contract shit on their legacy as a band with their releases the last 10 years. You can tell with 21stcb that they were trying and they put their everything on what they were making. And then they just got sick of trying and started to not really care and being too confident on themselves while Billie Joe started to embrace that stupid 80s rocknroller persona of drinking and doing "dangerous" things. I mean looking on an album like revrad and a lot of tracks on the trilogy it's not that bad. But from a band that, the way I view it at least, always prioritized their message through Billie's lyrics I expected more than the shit we got with the last 3 releases. People see me shitting on Billie Joe's lyrics and I've said multiple times that I believe he doesn't really try anymore but it's only because when I go back and listen to everything up until 21stcb I see something very special there and Billie Joe was mostly responsible for that.4 points

Just heard the entire album it's a really cool release and I love the experiments they made on this one. You can hear those 7 Foam songs in the mix cause there are a handful that would have fit on it. As this was released with Warner I figure it's safe to say Green Day has struck a new deal with them that they're happy with. We can probably expect quite a bit new music to come as they move forward. I think that the label had them pigeonholed with the new GD releases that came after AI. You can tell from this record they really have grown as songwriters and musicians well beyond what has been displayed over the last decade in Green Day's music. Dos was also supposed to be a Foxboro record, is it possible Warner stopped it from being an independent release? The Network being distributed by Warner now tells a different story than the one we may have been narrating here over the past few years. GD sabotaging the FOAMF cover says a lot more to me now than it did initially, they were probably stuck on archaic release schedules agreed upon 15-20 years ago and were told to focus on making the next American Idiot. Don't experiment just do what Green Day does. I made the comment that it felt like the band was semi-retired a few years ago but it's likely they just grew as musicians and were facing restrictions from the label and just checked out mentally.4 points
