I love how much time we spend as a fanbase trying to figure out whether music is Green Day or not lol

So I put the code from The Network's site into a HTML viewer online and found the links to their social media accounts. There are also other things such as references to an online store.

Regardless of which songs are real or not can I say the fact that they're actually revisiting this project 17 years later, in the year 2020 as prophesied, is so epic and amazing . I can hardly believe it. Only Green Day!

Anyone who said The Ultimate Test is fake has to eat their copy of Money Money 2020.

That "Ultimate Test" song sounds extremely legitimate. I'd be shocked if it isn't real. 1. The production sounds expensive and isn't just something that sounds like it could be big budget when when we eventually hear a clearer recording. It's right up front and not disguised by anything. 2. The tonality of the very first chord extremely hard to fake (listen to it a few times in a row) - there's something very signature in the initial attack of powerchord, bass, kick & crash that is very unique to GD, similar bands with identical instrumentation/production don't even come close. Same thing with that Green Day "swing". It's hard to explain, but by "swing" I mean how they play off of each other on top of a click track. So even though their music is usually to click, they almost all veer slightly off of the click in an identical way with each other. It's very hard to imitate how another person interprets tempo & then recreate their feel. And 3. the elements of the voice that sounds like BJ aren't the elements that someone would typically try to nail in an impression. And even if they did want to try, it would be impossible. In this leak it's the actual tone of the voice that sounds like him, not the accent. It sounds like him trying to sound less like himself rather than someone trying to sound more like him. It's almost how he'd sound if he tried to sing in the style of a British new-wave, Modern English-esque band. I'm surprised this wasn't a bigger deal. It was probably meant to be found & discussed. A few parts that give away that it's legit: 0:17 - “band starts” lyric 0:24 - "being gone" 0:38 -"sound" 0:42 - (friend? I dunno the lyric but the voice is starting to break & go into slight falsetto at a G into G# which is the exact notes BJ’s voice usually react the same way at. GD songs typically don’t go higher than a G# unless it’s falsetto) 1:12 - "I remember" 1:29 - Dunno the lyric but the fall from the B flat to G# is in other GD songs 1:36 - "gone" 2:28 - (this whole bit) 3:43 - "test" 3:50 - all the “answer” harmonies in the left channel sound like the new-wave accent isn’t as strong since they’re buried in the mix

Also these songs are produced like green day should be produced. Why do all the albums since and after the trilogy don't have that classic green day sound and this band that is not supposed to be green day has it?

Is it me or does Billie seem to be having a lot more fun with this than he did during FOAM promotion?

Right? I don’t even care what the songs sound like. I love this regardless of what it’s like, just because it’s so hilarious that they’re sticking to a joke they set up in 2003. No one believed they’d actually get through with it

Maybe if we stream/purchase the crap out of the Trilogy they will realize they can get weird again under the Green Day brand. If they want to wear masks or feature Lady Cobra on every song, I am right behind them.

I don't understand why everyone keep talking about Green Day when we're talking about a completely different band named The Network.

Just thinking, so we believe some of the Network songs like Roshambo were written for Green Day first and not used I wonder when they wrote this one and whether The Ultimate Test was one of the songs left off FOAM because it didn’t fit or was written for Green Day initially. The YouTube leak notes say it was recorded last February so it would have been part of the FOAM sessions. It just sounds so borderline Green Day it could have been and then they decided to write new Network material. So like Roshambo it could explain why it sounds like the least Network song of the bunch (if it will).

Joe Robot - Primarily guitar. No synth featured. Pretty sure the squirky sound is a pedal/FX, but if it's a synth in the mix idc cause it's doubling the guitar anyway. Transistors Gone Wild - About 50/50 Reto - Primarily Guitar. Synth featured lightly in chorus, doubling guitar part. Supermodel Robots - Synth featured, adding only melodic content. Guitar adds all harmonic content. I'd argue that makes it primarily guitar, since you wouldn't call Good Riddance "violin based" despite featuring more strings than this features synth, but we'll call it 50/50 to be nice. Money Money 2020 - Almost entirely guitar. Synth adds ornamentation at the end of bars. Not going to call this 50/50 to be nice. Spike - About 50/50 Love and Money - Synth is essentially a sound effect. Just goes wooOOooOOooOO in the background, adds no musical information. Otherwise entirely guitar. Right Hand O Rama - About 50/50 Roshambo - Synth buried deep in mix. Primarily guitar. Hungry Hungry Models - All synth X Ray Hamburgers - No synth unless you count the laser gun sound lol Teenagers From Mars - Synth in chorus. We'll call it 50/50 So 8.5 out of 12 songs are guitar based. Which is being generous, since in every song I gave a 50/50 to the guitar is still the primary source of harmonic information. And don't lose sight of the fact that we're talking about this in reference to the leaked song, and you saying it's fake because it's guitar-based. So really the only thing I need to say is that Joe Robot and X Ray Hamburgers exist with no synth at all.

I'm really perplexed about the negativity around The Ultimate Test. For me it's an absolute banger of a song. Personally think it's better than anything on FOAMF. I kind of wish it was a Green Day song tbh, it's epic. I do think Green Day should dare to be a bit more experimental like this at times, rather than saving that kind of stuff for side projects. Also, not sure why people were saying his voice sounded nothing like Billie. Have you not heard Money Money 2020? He switches his voice up and gives it an almost deeper tone purposefully to fit the story of it being a different band. But it was unmistakeably Billie from the moment I heard it.

It's so hard to focus on work with all this hype. I'm v stoked for whatever is coming our way! We haven't got this many projects in a short span since the trilogy - but these are so diverse (FOAM, NFM, and now the Network). Keeping the fans on their toes - i love it.

Who is this 'Green Day' you are referring to? You mean those rookies that people compare The Network to? I'm not familiar with them.

Especially never thought if one of the side projects got a second album it would be this one and not FHBT I looove Money Money 2020 and I've always really wanted them to return to this sound and see where else they can take it

I appreciate Billie wanting to help set the record straight. These leaks are meant to be puzzles and teasers but if too many fans miss the joke or are stumped it dies on the vine.
