Thou shalt not piss off God's Favorite Band. It's from the Book of Jesus of Suburbia, 4:20.9 points

You realise if it wasn't for covid he'd be in the middle of a gruelling months long world tour right now? That he's still going to be doing that just a year later instead? And that he's been creating and performing music during the lockdown, until recent events have put releasing stuff on hold (and the lockdown is ending anyway)? That going all out promoting your new product while a global pandemic and protests are happening isn't a good look for rich celebrities? This refusal to recognise that there's unique things happening in the world that are affecting what the band does is bizarre.8 points

I think you have Billie's job description wrong. He isn't an hourly or salaried worker. He's under no obligation to work, unless he's chosen to sign a contract that obligates him to. He doesn't need to explain his absence because a) whether he posts on social media or not is entirely up to him and not something that needs to be justified to anyone and b) everyone who isn't being deliberately obtuse is already perfectly well aware of the reason celebrities have stopped posting their stuff at the moment.8 points

It's not about him "struggling with the pain done to others." It's giving "others" space to speak. If a celebrity posts a selfie, hundreds or thousands of people are going to discuss that. If a celebrity posts about a good cause or just shuts up because it should be obvious why they're not posting, people are going to discuss the cause, not their posts. That's the point. He doesn't need to be and shouldn't be praised for it, but I don't think anyone is actually praising him. They're explaining it because people don't understand. A musician's "job" is not to provide you with free and regular entertainment anyway. If you've paid for something then obviously you should get it, but that's where their obligation ends. I'm not sure if you're deliberately misunderstanding so I may be wasting my time, but whatever.6 points

I hate that "coughing cat." So creepy! I remember when it became a meme. Here are some pictures of Billie that remind me of cats. When your cat starts screaming at you to fill the food dish, even though it's not even half empty yet: When your cat is staring at you from behind a door while you're on the toilet: When you're on the computer and your cat decides you need to be done and pay attention to them instead: When your cat is begging so you let them sniff your food to show them it's not something they want and they make this face:6 points

It’s possible we may have more herd immunity than we realize — new research is suggesting it may have been spreading as early as August in China. Suspected cases are dating back to December in Europe and the U.S. I’m still convinced it was here this past winter well before we realized it. If there aren’t huge spikes in cases following smaller businesses reopening and the protests/riots in major cities this month, it’ll be hard to justify not reopening venues by next year.5 points

I disagree. You are interpreting his "job" as entertaining you and others. He has said many times, he isn't writing music for us; it's for himself. His privilege allows him to put his "job" aside to make room for others to promote the BLM platform. His "job" is not like mine or yours, and for that reason, he owes us nothing, and it is up to us to accept what he does give us graciously, or not. I don't imagine he cares very much about our disappointment about NFM, and in fact may in turn be disappointed in those who prioritized NFM over BLM. Plus, he has posted plenty in his insta stories about BLM and reposting how to get involved and contribute. Personally, I don't feel the need to "defend" Billie in any way, but I would defend anyone who is being unfairly put upon as "owing" someone something that is just not owed to anyone. (Say that last line 3 times faster!).5 points

In N Out doesn't hold a candle to Dick's. That's the real west coast hamburger treasure. Plus it gives you the opportunity to say things like "I love Dick's!" or "Let's go get Dick's" which sound absolutely dirty out of context.4 points

It's obvious why Billie isn't sharing music at the moment. If he really wants to "amplify melanated voices" then he's not going to take up space by spelling it out. He never actually promised No Fun Mondays would go on indefinitely and anyway, not long ago fans complained it had run its course and they'd rather see his dogs or family. If I were him I'd definitely feel like "the worst thing you can do to a music fan is give them what they want" or whatever it was he said.4 points

Well, this came out of nowhere. ITWAN is #15 on the Hot Alternative chart (note- this is a different alternative chart than GD normally is on). First week on it. Also its first week of being on the Rock Airplay chart at #43. Dropped on all of the other charts.3 points

And the longer we wait, the more we put small venues and other businesses in jeopardy. I really don't think we can afford to wait much longer.2 points

Someone asked him on a Longshot post what his favorite pizza was and he replied "New York pepperoni is my favorite thing in the world." I can't find it right now. no.2 points

Is it possible that the current state of COVID-19 is also a factor? I mean, at least in the U.S., most people aren’t locked up anymore. Coupled with the protests/riots, it’s kind of a natural place to end it. Regardless of your opinions on whether it’s a good or bad thing, people just don’t seem to be as concerned about quarantines or the virus anymore.2 points

If you are plumber and in your spare time make dildos out of tubes giving them for free to your clients, taking a break from making dildos to spend your free time attending protests is not bad business.2 points

I think he prefers "petite" which there's nothing wrong being petite! It adds to his cuteness.1 point

I agree, there appears to be growing evidence many of us have already had it and herd immunity is working well. I really don’t think we can wait for a vaccine, look how long it took us to vaccinate everyone for smallpox and this is could be harder to pin down.1 point

Billie likes deep dish Chicago pizza. But not before a show because he doesn't want to shart on stage. I was there . That shirt got so soaked with beer and sweat you could see his tattoos through it1 point

They’ll no ahead vaccine or no vaccine they might make masks mandatory but I’d be surprised if they don’t go ahead1 point

Gotta love the anti-entitlement comments. You start a project, you should finish it. Sure, it's free music for us (kind of), but it's just bad business to be so scatter-brained. Imagine if they planned the Trilogy then only released 2 of the 3. "Oh you entitled fans want the 3rd? Jerks." People are killed daily in the US. Many minorities die unjustly daily. So is that an excuse to never make music again? If so, Billie is in the wrong business. Even SJW Lady Gaga released a full album 5 days after Floyd's murder. Where is the criticism against her? Or is she protected from scrutiny?1 point

I agree that I wish he would post something about it. I understand if he doesn't want to continue or if he's taking a break because of everything happening right now, but a quick tweet about it would be nice so we know what's going on. It makes me think of content creators on YouTube who just abandon a series they were working on with no warning and then they get annoyed when fans ask what happened. You don't need to get deep into it, just a quick this is on hiatus or I'm taking another week off would be much appreciated.1 point

Honestly I don’t feel any disappointment. NFM is/was a spontaneous initiative from Billie, it came of out of nowhere, might come back out of nowhere or not. Honestly I don’t really care about an official communication that this is over or on hold. It’s not that he promised to keep going forever or for a certain amount of time, it’s not an album getting delayed or whatever. It’s Billie posting covers on YT. He mentioned in those interviews he had a couple of songs on the pipeline, even announced a title. If he doesn’t feel like sharing them at the moment he’s entitled to do that without any warning. Laziness has nothing to do with this. I hope to hear these songs and more sooner or later, maybe in a official release, but his IG stories tell pretty clearly where his mind is right now, and where he would like to point ours. He might feel that even announcing a pause or end to the initiative would take the attention away from more important matters, and he would not be wrong. NFM is/was an activity to fight boredom and isolation and “escape” a sad reality. That doesn’t really apply to this situation, where keeping our mind actions focused on reality extremely important. He could record a song to support BLM, but so far he seemed to prefer to leave the microphone to other voices. I am fine with that. Pleasing the fandom (especially that small part of the fandom that waited impatiently every Monday for a new song, where I belong) is not always the point.1 point

How ever long the artist feels. God forbid Billie show some empathy and compassion to let peoples voices who need to be heard actually be heard.1 point

Same, I think like that too cause every part of his body makes a great combination overall imo I love that Billie as cats IG thread1 point

Didn't think we were going to get one today. I think he's made the right call to hold off with everything going on. Although, I think a NFM cover would be a light in the darkness for a lot of us at this point, but I understand his decision not to. People would almost certainly attack him for it if he did, probably saying something about how that's a selfish thing to do right now, or we should not be taking the focus away from the cause at hand etc. I don't think those things are true, even though I would get where they come from. We're all still fighting and nothing can distract us from that. Of course we need to be dedicated to this movement until we see change. But we also need things that bring us joy in a time of sorrow and anger. I don't see how putting out music (non-promotional) to make people happy and give us a chance to get away for a moment could be seen as a bad thing. I feel like a negative response from at least some people would have been inevitable if he had released something new today, though. That's most likely why we didn't get anything. That or Billie himself is too outraged to want to or too busy taking action to have the time. Or it could be a combination of those things or something completely different. No way to know, but I do hope we eventually get another release.1 point
