I just want to chime in real quick and say that I was wondering why it took this long to get protests and riots stirred up when there's so much brutality and racism going on daily, including death. I don't normally like to speak up about things like this because of how often things can turn nasty and argumentative, but I feel like I should right now. I think why what happened to George Floyd sparked all this is because of the context. 1. It was filmed. Yes, there are many other incidents that are filmed, but this one was a little bit different because... 2. You have a white police officer, arrogantly standing over a black man, hands in pockets with his knee on his neck. The other officers there had the power to stop him, but didn't. 3. That is a very powerful, disgustingly brutal image. Particularly so because a boot on the neck, forcing a helpless person down like that and taking away their ability to breath and their dignity, is a long standing symbol of totalitarianism and the cruelty that comes with it. 4. This officer and his colleagues were not reprimanded immediately. They all literally watched and held this poor man down until he died, but were only labeled as murderers from a legal standpoint once the people pushed officials to take action. I don't think this is something we'll "just forget about" in the next 3 weeks or whatever was said. This is different and I think it's the start of something that was long overdue. George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and the incident with Amy Cooper are all indications that tensions have run too high with the combined pressures of political turmoil, systemic racism and an upwelling of white supremacist activity, and a global pandemic on top of it all and things are finally boiling over. With all that said, I think it would be nice if Billie was able to still do GMA and release something next Monday. Not sure that's possible yet, but it would be something to be happy about during all this shit.4 points

Aragon high five! I didn't get a crotch shot pic, but these were my favs of the ones I took there. (Also, your last pic will always be one of my favorites of him.) Arms. ❤ Capo on the 7th tells me this is Ordinary World; so glad I got to see it in person before they dropped it.4 points

I'm late to the party on this one but my three would be: The Warfield 2005 when The Network opened; The Fox Theatre 2009 when they played 21st Century Breakdown in full; and Sweet Children opening at the House of Blues2 points

Agreed. Green Day got enough of that for a stupid ass billboard they didn't have much to do with.2 points

If he uses it to make a statement I would hope he would know it can’t be halfway. If they won’t allow him to speak his mind in either a statement or a song, he’ll probably cancel. If he just performs like nothing is going on or makes a generic statement, I’ll be disappointed. The guy that wrote “Minority” needs to go full out.2 points

40 black men were killed in Chicago alone on Memorial Day in gang violence. Where were the protests the? No one cared. Black men are dying at alarming rates and no one cares. But they go into full riot when a high profile case hits. Then 3 weeks later we'll be back to normal. People are reactionary. They don't truly care, they just want to advance their own image and agenda. Obama's essay said it best: all this is useless of people don't actually get involved in local govt and organize with clear goals. It's just a bunch of aimless social media warring and unorganized riot chaos.2 points

I’m hoping he’ll find a way to use it to make a statement, but it depends on if they allow it. If it’s live instead of recorded it will be much easier, although he might not be invited back.1 point

On the subject of The Longshot, recently I've been looking back at the footage and the pictures from the tour they did in June last year. That hairstyle looked really good on Billie and I love seeing him play alongside Kevin.1 point

I'm aware of that. Thank you. I didn't think it would hurt to have one more post about it here and I ended with something that was related to this topic. I missed all the conversation on this thread, so after reading through it I just wanted to add my two cents before heading over to General Chat.1 point

If you need a break from current events, here's some more Billie (Never seen this one before) Billie makes a touchdown! Love this one1 point

To be fair. It wasn't clear that it was a joke and it shouldn't have been said at all. You did recognize that you did wrong, but remember, tone does not translate when it's in text form.1 point

I think you’re missing my point. I’m not slamming Billie for not doing more, I just wanted to point out that this isn’t a situation where he needs to be in the center of attention/admired. That takes the focus off from what’s happening and is really important. And bragging about my own activism would be even more tasteless. This isn’t a piss contest. I’m just going to say it’s really not that hard. Spending a couple hours a week volunteering isn’t much of a hassle but it often gets work done that would otherwise be impossible to get done if it had to be paid.1 point

Just remember one thing before you act like these protests are “opportunistic”. That’s exactly what people thought about the civil rights protests. When MLK was killed, he had a 25 percent approval in this country and many people celebrated his death. Often you can’t see the value of a movement until you see it in hindsight. And minimizing it right now is the height of white privilege.1 point

I doubt all this stuff going on has anything to do with racism. As noted above everyday many people are murdered and nobody cares. Floyd was killed because he was a criminal not because he was black. Live life of a normal citizen and nobody will bother you except criminals and violent by nature people. People are using racism as a cause to be violent to release their aggressive behavior. Not to mention that more white people are killed by cops(I’ve decided to check the statistics). Claiming that white people hate and feel power over black people is pretty racist itself and seems to me as an attempt to separate races. Of course there are racists and dumb people everywhere and generalizing is pretty stupid. Billie following the trends is so him. He always just wants to be seen as a good guy but he appears to me rather over reactive in a few occasions. I wish he just ignored everything and kept releasing no fun Monday.1 point

Considering your racist posts about blacks on this forum a few years ago don’t even mention black people in your post fuck you and @AlissaGoesRAWR and you’re agreeing to this known racist fuck? I’m shocked at you1 point
-
I hate that I agree with this, but I kind of do. A lot of people just want to feel like they’re “helping” and included by doing the bare minimum, aka, changing their profile picture to a black circle and not posting on social media for a day. Trendiness does influence behavior — it’s why all those obsessing over mask selfies have already moved on to the next topic. It’s hard to take them seriously when they just jump from one thing to the next and won’t care in a month when the next trend pops up. But if you don’t fall in line with the social media trend, you’re the horrible person.1 point

“Burn in hell, Jewbag” isn’t the nicest, least racist thing to say in my opinion. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.jta.org/2008/02/11/culture/ink-star-sends-hateful-kiss-off-to-jewish-boss/amp I guess it’s a good example of how there can be a huge difference between being outspoken about social justice and the way you act. I’m not commenting on what Billie does or what he should do. I honestly don’t care - it’s up to him, not me. What I’m saying is we shouldn’t praise a celebrity talking about issues over people who contribute a lot more to their community. There are people who actively help out in disadvantaged communities, there are people who feed the homeless, there are lawyers working pro bono, there are volunteers who teach children for free. All of these people do more than post about social justice on Instagram.1 point

He would have been absolutely killed on social media. There is a blackout right now as far as entertainers posting promotional stuff or anything outside of promoting BLM right now. And even before it was declared it’s been frowned on. It seems superficial with what’s going on right now. I don’t think people in other countries don’t quite understand what a serious situation we’re in here in the US1 point

I would've loved to get a cover yesterday - something to look forward to and a bit of a break from what's happening. But I also respect the decision not to release anything. There are bigger things going on; covers can wait. I can just re-listen to past No Fun Mondays instead.1 point
-
The narrative would change if he posted something. "He came through when we needed him. Music is so important in these times." People's opinions seem driven by emotion and they just change to fit their narrative. But with COVID apparently being over, NFM probably will be, too. Since rioting without masks in violation of emergency health orders is okay and encouraged by politicians and celebrities despite the significant risk, then going go a beach or restaurant should be too.1 point
-
Proud of Billie for not posting anything. I was looking forward to a new cover, but I think he chose the best option in light of all the shit that's happening right now.1 point
-
He's trying to be respectful and not post content right now, like so many other organizations and celebrities, so that people who need their voice heard can do so. Nothing crazy about it. Us getting a new cover is completely irrelevant to everything else going on right now. It doesn't matter.1 point
