  1. He's trying to be respectful and not post content right now, like so many other organizations and celebrities, so that people who need their voice heard can do so. Nothing crazy about it. Us getting a new cover is completely irrelevant to everything else going on right now. It doesn't matter.

  2. Proud of Billie for not posting anything. I was looking forward to a new cover, but I think he chose the best option in light of all the shit that's happening right now.

  3. I don’t think it’s fair to judge right now considering our country is in crisis. I’m sure he had one of those random power pop songs planned and at the last minute decided it would be inappropriate but didn’t have time to pull something else together. It’s possible he could release something later in the week (like he did with Amico) or just wait til next week considering he’s also focusing on a GMA performance on Friday so a lot on his plate right now. That plus the news here changes minute by minute so he has to be particularly aware that his timing isn’t seen as insensitive. He could be trying to find a way to tie in a song release with a plea for donations somewhere.

  4. He would have been absolutely killed on social media. There is a blackout right now as far as entertainers posting promotional stuff or anything outside of promoting BLM right now. And even before it was declared it’s been frowned on. It seems superficial with what’s going on right now. I don’t think people in other countries don’t quite understand what a serious situation we’re in here in the US

  5. Haven’t a lot of major music labels said they are having a blackout on new music to show solidarity with #blacklivesmatter movement? I know it’s supposed to be tomorrow but maybe Billie feels releasing a new cover song at the moment would be the wrong thing to do.

  6. I would've loved to get a cover yesterday - something to look forward to and a bit of a break from what's happening. But I also respect the decision not to release anything. There are bigger things going on; covers can wait. I can just re-listen to past No Fun Mondays instead.

  7. If you need a break from current events, here's some more Billie (Never seen this one before) Billie makes a touchdown! Love this one

  11. Just remember one thing before you act like these protests are “opportunistic”. That’s exactly what people thought about the civil rights protests. When MLK was killed, he had a 25 percent approval in this country and many people celebrated his death. Often you can’t see the value of a movement until you see it in hindsight. And minimizing it right now is the height of white privilege.

  12. Wow. I am truly shocked at the ignorant posts on here. Very disappointed. If you’re posting anything on here equating this situation with criminal activity, I don’t know what to say to you other than you need to look deeper.

  14. Well if you have a president clearing peaceful protestors with teargas from around the White House so he can make a speech about sending the military to take down protestors like Tiananmen Square with force and then do a staged photo op with a Bible bad, yeah we’re there.

  15. That is a ridiculous statement. And ignorant.

  18. Considering your racist posts about blacks on this forum a few years ago don’t even mention black people in your post fuck you and @AlissaGoesRAWR and you’re agreeing to this known racist fuck? I’m shocked at you

  19. “Burn in hell, Jewbag” isn’t the nicest, least racist thing to say in my opinion. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.jta.org/2008/02/11/culture/ink-star-sends-hateful-kiss-off-to-jewish-boss/amp I guess it’s a good example of how there can be a huge difference between being outspoken about social justice and the way you act. I’m not commenting on what Billie does or what he should do. I honestly don’t care - it’s up to him, not me. What I’m saying is we shouldn’t praise a celebrity talking about issues over people who contribute a lot more to their community. There are people who actively help out in disadvantaged communities, there are people who feed the homeless, there are lawyers working pro bono, there are volunteers who teach children for free. All of these people do more than post about social justice on Instagram.

  24. Just because you've never seen it, doesn't mean they aren't there. It's a dumb generalization to make. Jokes about that or Billie being racist aren't cool and they're in poor taste, especially with what's happening.

  25. Yeah because I'm so serious on GDC. After all this time I think you all know me and my posts. C'mon how serious do you think someone can say that BJ is a racist because he put on stage more white people in his career than black people?

  28. He was banned years ago for making racist comments against blacks and has came back and made multiple snide subtle racist comments but now he wants to act like he cares about blacks fuck him
    1 point
  29. OK, this is just flat out wrong though. Forgery isn’t punishable by death and blacks are disproportionately arrested and killed by police when compared to their percentage of the U.S. population. Those are just facts. I don’t want to derail this thread anymore though so we should probably move this to the George Floyd thread if we want to talk about it further.

  30. I’m not at all saying that this movement shouldn’t be happening. It’s long overdue. Obviously racism is a huge problem in this country and has been since it was founded. But I hate seeing a bunch of white people who I know don’t actually give a shit hopping on board because it’s trendy now to care about it, and in a month if something else comes up that makes them look better they’ll jump on that, too. Also, I don’t really understand what he said in this actual post that made you so upset?
    1 point
  31. I hate that I agree with this, but I kind of do. A lot of people just want to feel like they’re “helping” and included by doing the bare minimum, aka, changing their profile picture to a black circle and not posting on social media for a day. Trendiness does influence behavior — it’s why all those obsessing over mask selfies have already moved on to the next topic. It’s hard to take them seriously when they just jump from one thing to the next and won’t care in a month when the next trend pops up. But if you don’t fall in line with the social media trend, you’re the horrible person.

  32. This. It's the correct move. People on GD's twitter this past friday were not happy that they "promoted" the release of Manic Monday to streaming platforms.

  34. The narrative would change if he posted something. "He came through when we needed him. Music is so important in these times." People's opinions seem driven by emotion and they just change to fit their narrative. But with COVID apparently being over, NFM probably will be, too. Since rioting without masks in violation of emergency health orders is okay and encouraged by politicians and celebrities despite the significant risk, then going go a beach or restaurant should be too.

  38. He also has GMA Friday, and that’s probably 3-5 songs? That requires some prep. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s rethinking what to play for that also. And If he has to negotiate that with management and GMA. Can’t get too edgy with that setting, but I’m sure he also doesn’t want to appear tone deaf. We know this issue is very important to him.

  39. Or maybe it's not a good time to release anything right now because of the protests? Who knows but I'm thinking this will be over soon because everything is starting to open up now isn't it? I mean I'm finally going back to work next week!

  40. Yeah probably. On saturday he said that he was traing to figure out what to do

  41. Its only 12:30pm in LA right?? Surely theres still heaps of time for Billie to put a song out

  42. I imagine it varies by location. It's something I see pretty frequently, but I can see how it's not like that elsewhere. It just fired me up because these are generalizations that myself and other friends have dealt with and I just think it's stupid to assume something like that based on skin color. Personally, I still think it would be in poor taste even without the events. It's just dumb to assume what someone likes musically based on skin color.
