I'm listening the album again, now in a legal way and high quality. All that comes to my mind is that in recent years most of the biggest rock bands are just touring for the umpteenth time, making as less effort as possible. Same songs, similar setlists, only changing the stage. Easy money, zero respect. The excuses are many: an anniversary of an album or the band, an endless farewell tour, an unnecessary reunion... Then you have the Green Day case. After all these years they could just take it easy and tour with the Dookie/ AI anniversary excuse, selling out immediately an uncountable number of arenas or even stadiums. But they have something that other acts are lacking, respect for their fandom and music. Even after 30 years they want to try different sensations and they are looking for new sounds instead of going for the safe road. And they are still capable of delivering outstanding music as Graffitia. This is why I love Green Day12 points

So I hated the singles. I haven't been excited about this album at all. I didn't even bother with the leaks. And you know what? I think it absolutely slaps. So much fun, what a cracking little record.10 points

First impressions: why the fuck did they release the three worst songs as the singles? The albums good. Thereās some good songs on it, Grafitia is enjoyable and for me the best song on the album, Meet Me on the Roof is catchy, Junkies on a High is alright and thereās other good choruses throughout. Stab You in the Heart and I was a Teenage Teenager just feel a bit odd though, I feel the lyrics could be a lot stronger than just āI WANNA STAB YOU IN THE HEART!!!!!!!1!1!1!1!!1!ā Or āfull of piss and vinegarā. Take the Money and Crawl is a riff Iāve heard so many times, but has a good chorus. Overall itās a good album, theyāve tried something different and it couldāve been a lot worse. Thereās some good moments, thereās some not so good moments, but itās solid. I do think it lacks a bit of substance, a little bit more subtlety in the lyrics, but itās still an enjoyable record. (Disclaimer: this is based on my first listen, views are subject to change, please do not crucify me for having criticisms)7 points

The one critique that always annoys me, is when they do a song about being young, reviewers complain about middle aged men doing that, but then if they do a song like Outlaws, looking back at/reflecting upon their youth, reviewers will complain about that, saying young people can't relate.6 points

SORRY! I was listening to the album. ššš Anyways. I love the album. The diversity in songs yet it still has that āGreen Dayā filter on it. Holiday is playing as I type this and the new stuff just fits so well but isnāt a repeat. So proud of these guys. Iāve already added it on my Apple Music. Itās too bad by drive to work is only 10 minutes long, but I will be blasting it in the car in the morning. Okay, I really do have to go to bed now. I have to have my headshot taken tomorrow at work and I canāt look tired and this week has been exhausting. HAPPY ALBUM RELEASE, GIRLS!!6 points

My favorite set of lyrics so far is in āJunkies On a Highā where Billie goes from using āOh yeahā as filler to quoting the Kool-Aid man. And it fits with the song. Clever.6 points

You know how FOAM is better than RevRad? You can listen to FOAM at one volume without having to turn the volume up and down every 10 secs like RevRad6 points

I've seen some strange criticism of Green Day over the years, admittedly a good chunk of it from me, but "they used a fade out so they sound like ABBA" might be my new favourite.6 points

So many reviews continuing this "end of contract, so they don't care" narrative. Just because a record is fun and laid back and not the usual Green Day political, message-heavy songwriting does NOT mean it is a lazy record. It feels like effort was put into this.5 points

Just listened It's soooo short but I love it. Digging that the songs we've already heard come first. Stab You In the Heart is hilarious . I Was a Teenage Teenager is weird. Junkies On a High and Take the Money and Crawl are amazing . Seems like they've kept going with the very straightforward, upfront and honest lyrical style of Rev Rad, only this time it's a party. More Longshot vibes than FBHT though. And there's the classic rock elements again but also much more modern indie/pop stuff that gives it a whole new feel. Loving it! Also "walk" and "cock" is my new favourite Billie rhyme.5 points

I'm entirely obsessed with this album and it makes me SO HAPPY because other recent GD music hasn't made me feel the things I felt when I fell in love with this band initially To me there's not a single filler song on the album, instead each of the songs have something fun and unique in them and putting them on the album makes sense. I personally definitely see the 'party album' idea. Not all 'party' music needs to be happy and super upbeat, it just needs to be groovy and make you feel something. I know sometimes I have times when your typical happy songs just aren't cutting it when trying to have a good time - sometimes you have to embrace the not-so-happy aspects of life and have fun anyway. I don't really care if there are similarities to other songs or artists, it's not that deep. These songs are going to be AMAZING live, I absolutely cannot wait holy shit.5 points

to me ā this is their best record. I was kinda getting out of touch with GD. My taste & understanding of music changed a lot since RevRad & I was constantly less and less listening to their songs; even their big songs didnāt get me like they used to. I was accepting this sad fact, but kinda promissed myself Iād never truly abandon them as theyāre my first big love & introduction to music. But they truly changed their whole game with this new record; embracing Billieās talent of writing rockānāroll songs & all of them dominating their Instruments.5 points

My CD got delivered one day early yesterday so I had some time to listen and digest. My feelings about it are mixed. For me it's not really a party record, itās giving me very, very dark vibes (āRockānāroll tragedy, I think the next one could be meā ā holy shit, BilliešØ). The record sounds as if the trilogy, a touch of the Foxboro Hottubs, The Beatles, Prince and Billy Idol were put in a blender. The strong trilogy vibe I already felt when they announced the album initensified, some songs (Sugar Youth, Take The Money And Crawl) sound like they could be straight off Dos, at least for my ears. The songs I like most - along with Oh Yeah - are Meet Me On The Roof, Junkies On A High and Graffitia. I donāt really understand the many reviews who say this doesnāt sound like Green Day. I think it sounds a lot like them. So right now I'm still in a state of suspense whether I like it or not, it's definitely not love at first sight like I had it with most other GD records, but I have a feeling that this one is a grower. And so far I can say that there are definitely moments I enjoy.5 points

Iām at my second listening of the official release. What a fucking great album, so good, so, so good. I genuinely, from the deep of my heart, love this. More clear and elaborated thoughts to follow, but these dudes are making me feel like a fucking teenager that wants to dance from dusk until dawn, and I love them so much for this. What an era. This is so bold, fucking fresh air in my lungs and ears.5 points

I love the the little things Iām catching in these songs! Like that little sound (guitar maybe?) at the very end of Graffitia as itās fading out (with 9 seconds left).4 points

The album has been on repeat literally all day for me, it's amazing how many details were missed with the vinyl rip. At first, I kinda wrote off Stab You in the Heart for being a little derivative, but the production totally lifts the song up, like the details of the Beatlemania crowd (love the self-aware wink), the lasers sounds and the harmonies at the end, great song to crank out on the highway in my non-existent Ferrari with the windows rolled down. The same is the case with Take the Money and Crawl, I think the cut-off effect of the "craaa-wwl" totally makes the song and Junkies on a High was definitely a highlight since my first listen, I think the gritty yet groovy instrumental complement so well with the omnious lyrics without falling into the overly-dramatic clichĆ©. Also, kinda controversial, but FOA might be my favorite GD album opener ever along with 21CB. My favorites are still Meet Me on the Roof (what a gorgeous song, the quirky contrast between the doo-wop harmonies and the dark lyrics work so well), I was a Teenage Teenager (a review described it as a play on 50's monster movie tropes and I agree, I totally see the lyrics as a tribute to the silly horror punk from groups like Misfits, and for a song called like that, so many people are taking it at face-value) and Grafittia (the fact that they still have it in them to write a song like this in their 13th album... this group, I swear to God...) I'm loving this album so much I'm even growing fond of the album cover and that stupid unicorn, ugly little thing he is š4 points

Still have to listen to it a couple of times in order to say how much I like it. What I noticed though, despite the mostly positive reviews, is that WHENEVER a new GD record comes out, I have to read about 3-5 reviews which basically say: "Look, it's Green Day, they suck because they're trying to make fast rock music despite being almost 50. Also, they're a stadium rock band, that sucks and isn't credible. The new music is bad, Dookie and AI are better." I legitimately read a review that said that they sound like a teenage cover band that hasn't found their sound yet. I mean guys, you can criticize their music, but do it on an objective level. Slamming them just because they are popular is not journalism. Seriously.4 points

I'm a fan who got into them with AI, but I feel like so many fans can't let that sound go. If you just go into this album with an open mind and don't expect to hear something that you've imagined in your head, you will find the music to be good.4 points
