  1. I always find it funny reading people's opinions compared to my own. There seems to be some serious division in the fan base over this. I'd love to see how that correlates to age and when people became fans etc... For me personally I love the record and that's all that matters to me. I work in complaints so all day I deal with people telling down the phone at me. Last night I drove home listening to the album and by the time graffitia kicked in I was smiling ear to ear and turned to my friend and said "those magnificent bastards have done it again" I love you green day

  2. I’m gonna just pretend they meant to go to Butch Vig, emailed the wrong contact and got too far to take the offer of landing the record back.

  3. I listened. And was really skeptical. But I am in absolute love. Caught Sgt Pepper Vibes the whole time. And since at least one of the band members will (hopefully) be peeking at the forums, just wanna say thank you. I just got picked up by a manager and am moving to Nashville next month to work as a songwriter and none of it would have started without y’all. This record is an inspiration and a statement

  10. Bad Butch Walker! Bad, bad dude! One thing that is amazing about this record and that is clear despite the bad quality of the leak: these songs, finally, fucking progress. Teenager is a great example, in RR it would have probably been a flat song like Outlaws, here it’s a perfect example of progressive punk rock. It starts and finishes in two totally different states, and there’s a constant progression during verses and chorus. Or think about sugar youth, each verse it’s different to the previous one. Or Take the money and crawl and its variations within the chorus. Brilliant record. The last time GD did this was with 21CB (multi part songs don’t really count IMHO). Ironically enough, of the three singles only Oh yeah! does this, and in a much more limited way.

  11. I’d definitely vote for that

  12. My order is finally shipped, there’s still hope We also have to consider that, based on the comments on this thread, if they had to make an album with 10 songs up to the different standards of each fan, they would have had to make 10 Trilogies. They don’t make music based on our taste, but based on their artistic needs. Of course you can dislike it, but pleasing everyone is impossible, and last time they tried to do something like that the result was much worse than this IMHO. They have been around for 30 years, this fandom is so diverse, which of course is both a blessing and a curse.

  14. A cello he’s said before was a sad feeling and here a toothache goes with the rest of the line his face is going numb (like when you have novocaine for a toothache). Pretty sure that’s a cocaine reference because snorting cocaine makes your face numb. Taking drowning lessons is a great line. He’s drowning in drugs and alcohol. Basically a party where everyone is getting shitfaced and he’s drowning in it. Living like a prisoner for haters — you know like when you’re a teen you feel like you lack autonomy — like a prisoner you’re stuck in your town, your house, your school and everybody hates you. Child of a bandito and a coyote may have references that we don’t know about but to me it gives the image of being a wild, feral outlaw of a kid (like in Outlaws) Kool-Aid is my motto is half the line. In the song he says “Kool-Aid is my motto Oh Yeah” Oh Yeah being the Kool Aid ad motto and in general that verse references how he doesn’t really stand for anything and shouldn’t be followed and worshipped. “Nobody is my name” “My path, don’t follow” And lastly, cock rhymes with walk in the song. 🙂

  15. So I have a couple of friends at some local indie record stores. One of them owns the store and is a buddy of mine from high school. They both said that they get the CD and vinyl tomorrow. I don’t know if it is regional, maybe some other places have it already. So I MIGHT be able to get the CD early tomorrow. Fingers. Fucking. Crossed. 🤞🏻

  16. Was walking in my local target and asked if they had any Cd’s of Green Day’s new album. The lady straight up walks to the back and grabs a box and let’s me go thru it to see if there were any. Lucky enough I found 3 sitting right there at the bottom. Dont think the lady knew it wasn’t supposed to be sold to customers until Friday, but I’ll talk it😂

  17. They finally added in some more instrumental elements. Dookie and Insomniac have those breakdowns, American Idiot has long progressions and solos etc This is something that's been missing in GD's newer music post 21cb. What's cool is they were able to bring it back without making the song an extended length of time. It's all packaged in this short 2 minute piece.

  18. If DOS! was the second album by the Foxboro Hot Tubs, Father of All Motherfuckers is the second album by The Longshot, basically.

  19. It's my second favorite song on the album. I had it on repeat along with Graffitia all night at work.

  20. Im looking forward to the official release when we will be allowed to discuss each song in its own thread. I want it to be the end song - I loved Brutal Love when all the guys came back on stage - I can imagine this with Graffitia.

  21. While listening to the album today, I could totally picture them run out on stage and open with Graffitia. It would get me so pumped - but watch we'll still get Know Your Enemy for an opener lol

  25. Cause those tracks are produced by Green Day Chris Dugan and Butch Walker as they’re the demo recordings

  26. I don’t get the hate for Teenage Teenager, lol loving this song, yeah sounds like swmrs/weezer but still GD, love all the overlaying vocals at the end, can’t wait to hear it in stero.

  27. Oh my there's so many posts I want to reply to! But here's my morning thoughts about the album. What are some of the things Green Day are doing for the first time here? Think about this one, and I'll analyse the rest. What previous Green Day sounds appear here? I can give this one a whirl: lyrical similarities or call backs to 21st Century Breakdown, American Idiot throughout, starting in the title track. "Meet Me on the Roof" actually has things from Trilogy, Rev Rad and Longshot - most of it in the first verse. Musically, it's Foxboro Hot Tubs. "Teenager Teenager Teenager Teenager" sounds like a Trilogy song and Longshot song blended together. DOS and Longshot. 'Stab" is clearing F(woo) Time redux. Dos again. Lyrically, it's Breakdown and The Network. And Uno. "Sugar Youth" has American Idiot, Breakdown and Rev Rad all over it. "Junkies" has some Dos-style lyrics. "Graffitia" - has some Tre and Breakdown lyrics. Also, one of my favorite lines is "Life during war time" because that song is awesome. Pinhead Gunpowder! I see influences from American Idiot, Breakdown, Trilogy and Revolution Radio. Nothing from earlier material that I can here. Some outside projects that I heard - Foxboro Hot Tubs, Longshot, The Network and Pinhead Gunpowder. While those have been separate in the past, I love that Billie decided to use everything INCLUDING the kitchen sink (the kitchen sink being the Network?) on this short album. It would have been really boring if we had 26 minutes of 'standard Green Day tunes'. Instead, we get this feeling of going insane with the author of the party. Billie took all his tools as a songwriter, and really put them to use here. It's a strong record because of this. If anyone hears any pre-Idiot sounds, let me know. I'd love to know this is a true amalgamation of ALL THINGS GREEN DAY. I though about including Nimrod, simply because of the diversity, so maybe that one counts too. I've heard the album, now the most exciting part of getting a physical copy will be to go straight to the credits and see what Mike and Tre did, and who the other personal are. It's possible it was all Green Day and the producer, but not likely. There are horns, choir and female vocals and some other instrumentation. I will be very upset if Mike and Tre didn't at least do SOME of the backing vocals. I've been a huge fan of their change in style, and don't even mind backing tracks and Billie not playing guitar. but this is one I've got to be hard headed about. Mike and Tre's backing vocals ARE Green Day. Maybe Butch could join as a fourth member, but I need me some Mike/Tre vocals. I REALLY, REALLY need an entire lead vocal from them too. To hear they may not even be doing their Harmonies and Heys....... that stabs me in the heart.

  28. What a very great point, we should possibly have this at the top of each page of this thread! Am still holding out, if driving myself somewhat crazy by reading this, but a thought occurred to me this morning. From everyone’s comments, it seems that love it or hate it, some of it is quite different and surprising. That’s pretty unusual, possibly amazing, for a band on their 13 album and 30 years in!

  29. Thissss^^^ As I've expressed, overall think it's a pretty average record but I think there's at least one or two songs on here to appeal to every type of GD fan, so I don't understand where some of the outright hate for this album comes from, but if that's someone's honest opinion, I accept it. I really like at least half of the songs here, but it really is quite a diverse album. There's a bit of AI, Nimrod, and of course Foxboro Hot Tubs and Dos on here as well as some stuff that's pretty different to anything we've had before. All in all I am glad we got what we got even if I wish there was a few more songs here (and a different album cover, fight me about it!). Sure I'd rather them continue in the direction they were going with 21cb and RevRad but hey, if this is what they wanna do, it's what they wanna do.

  30. I'm gonna miss the vinyl rip when the high quality version comes out. Something about its imperfection is charming to me.

  32. Yup, Jim Jones/Jonestown (although technically it was flavoraid that they used). Also, 412 of the Jonestown victims are buried in Evergreen cemetery in Oakland and the Jonestown memorial is there. I went there on one of my Oakland trips (I'm a bit of a Jonestown junkie).

  34. Stab you in the heart and graffitia got me excited because it sounded like mike was prominent on the backing vocals and the reviews are saying butch sings on both of those songs so now im confused and slightly upset

  35. @That Dude I think the lyric sheet is wrong and you are correct. He definitely sings “and it’s dangerous” first and “and I need the rush” second. Interesting take on Romeo. Another nice double meaning maybe? Yes he did commit suicide but typically the name Romeo is used to describe someone who is a romantic or object of desire. That was my first thought here, that he doesn’t want to be seen that way (but sorry Billie, you’re just hawt, can’t help it 😄😍) I can’t believe just a few short days ago Meet Me On The Roof didn’t exist in my life and now it’s been in my head all day 💚

  38. I'll wait for the HQ versions to say for sure, but this album is very alive and bright. Even with the rip, you can hear all the instruments distinctly. More energy than RevRad for sure. Lots of cool little effects thrown in too.

  41. The world of leaks has forever been changed after the MOTIK scare. People probably reckon that nobody will believe a leak now, so the only people doing the leaking are kids that don't know about the infamous (or should I say inglorious) fake leaks lmao

  42. I think that "My pride is my pornography" is a touch about the self-depreciation that BJ said in the recent interviews. In other words, the pride is such an important matter for the speaker because is a source of pleasure, but at the same time, doing stuff to keep it good is degradation in flesh. The record is full of good lines, but this one is my favorite.

  44. I kept feeling really bad for listening to the record ripped like this. Then I remembered how I felt in love with AI and GD: downloading a totally illegal copy of the record from Gnutella (geez I feel old now). The thing is that it ended up being a corrupted file including only a poor quality version of AI, Holiday, Homecoming and Whatshername. Since I downloaded it 15 minutes before leaving for a 2 weeks motorhome on the road holiday with my parents (wifi and 4G were not really a thing in 2004 ), for two weeks I only listened to those songs on repeat, with an iPod and shitty EarPods. After a week I actually bought the CD in a Slovakian shopping centre, but since the motorhome didn't have a CD player and my parents didn't allow me to buy one of those portable CD players (I mean I had an iPod, how can you blame them, but I was fucking pissed at the time 😂), I had to wait another week to actually listen to the whole thing. I still have that corrupted file somewhere in one of my HDDs Considering how much I loved the real record afterwards, and how much money I ended up giving to these guys, they should not be too mad at me and I'm bot feeling guilty anymore
