When you open a window on your advent calendar and it tells you to sing a Christmas song and the 1st song you think of is Xmas Time of the Year (but I can't sing) When you're watching Elf and you think of Billie standing on a box next to Will Ferrell and the time he was on stage with GD for East Jesus Nowhere5 points

I totally agree with this. And honestly my only wish is to hear the music the band wants to produce and play today. If FOAM, as an album, represents the sound and style they want to pull out I am totally up for it. I really donāt understand how people can estimate how much effort the band put in this record based only on two singles and their personal taste. Sometimes I feel like someone thinks that a rock opera, or a song with a āepicā rock sound will necessarily and intrinsically be better then anything else that GD can pull out. But thatās just wrong, thatās just someoneās very personal taste.5 points

Anyone saying they think the band didn't put effort into something is making an argument in bad faith that goes against literally everything Green Day has proven to us over the last 35 years. It just comes across as really disingenuous and rude to be honest.5 points

It's frustrated fans who aren't enjoying the output as much as others but think it's because of the input during the recording and creative processes. I lost my head on this topic the other day as I'm a musician who has recorded full albums on my own. It's a lot of work and if it was about effort level they just wouldn't make an album period. GD put a lot of effort into tracking. It's all done with high quality and loads of effort. They're going for something new and not everybody is going to like it. That's more about the opinion of the art than it is about their effort level. I agree about mike but you know how I feel about the effort level. They self produced Rev Rad. They increased their responsibilities on the production of the record so objectively they put more effort into that. The effort Vs the result is two different things. Think about in school. You may have put so much effort on an essay for one class to get just a 70 and in another class you had to sacrifice your time on a project but somehow still got an 85. Life can be full of little disappointments. With the trilogy my questioning doesn't fall on the band. They had over 40 songs ready to go for that recording session. They did it quite quickly as well. I'm speaking from experience here that takes a huge level of effort. It doesn't mean the result will be there but I can guarantee you they put more into it than 99% of us put into our projects at work. It's evident in Cuatro when Mike speaks about the process of putting the trilogy together. Can you name another band in the last 10 years that was able to release a trilogy of albums within a single year or an artist that dropped 37 songs at one time? (to qualify they would have to have written and recorded all the songs themselves) My questions fall into the supporting staff for the trilogy. I didn't like how production was handled but that's just me. The personnel on the albums are all highly regarded professionals.4 points

Doesn't carmen die at the end of the opera? F i t t i n g also that's crazy I never saw that comparison before... yeah, i do agree with you. And that makes it even more heartwrenching. The line "when the afterlife is not worth dying for" (i think that's the lyrics) is one of the most so, because [This is only how I interpret it at least] it's someone in such a state that they feel no matter what they do, they'll end up in hell or whatever, so it's not even worth it to end it all early. That hit me, it reallllly did š¢3 points

But it's not just an opinion when you say things like that. You're implying they're putting in less effort than previously based off of what? The fact that you don't like what they're doing? The fact that the guitar parts or lyrics aren't complex or introspective enough for you? None of that equals lack of effort on anyone's part, it's just your personal preference for how they sound. Saying that they're being lazy or putting in less effort is not a nice thing to say imo, especially because there is absolutely no way to quantify that.3 points

I could imagine that GD thinks that they reached everything they always wanted to reach and everything thatās yet to come is like an encore for just having fun and enjoy playing together. I really hope that maybe in a few years they want to do one last concept album again but Iām not that optimistic... But look at the Rolling Stones. They did one studio album in the last 15 years I think and they still keep touring and just having fun. So why not3 points

I donāt think so pretty sure KYF was written much more recently but either way to me those songs are very different from each other in tone and also POV. BB is from the point of view of someone who commits a mass shooting while I interpret KYF as being from the POV of the rest of society that has to live with these shootings and respond in some way, either with meaningless thoughts and prayers or just a fatalistic attitude of getting depressed, throwing up your hands and saying whatās the use weāre all gonna die anyway. With DRB the narrator has done this to himself and is entirely self destructive. With KYF the narrator feels like the victim of a violent society and feels no matter what they do, they and their friends are gonna end up statistics.2 points

"I've got the urge/ to binge and surge/ the tables turn/ to crash and burn" people interpret the song as a story of a rebel kid or something like Jesus of Suburbia, but I interpret it as the narrator (whether it is Billie Joe himself or anyone else is not my place to say) losing all hope in anything good, and resorting to the most wild lifestyle he can think of to try and have "fun" and forget/avoid the topic that he's done everything he's done. The "Juliana Homicide" part makes me interpret that this narrator lost someone close to him. He regrets everything he's done but he's trying to block that out. He wants to die or cease to exist but is too scared of the unknown world after death. It's so deep and heartbreaking to me that I can't even listen to it anymore š¢ the whole song Bang Bang votes for an objection, as does Kill Your Friends, which I sort of believe was actually the first draft of Bang Bang (can anyone confirm or deny this?)2 points
-
Yes, she does. I like your interpretation of that line. I never came up with a good take at it... DRB is full of moments like this - "chop me a line of my best friend's ashes" "i'm on a bender that's for the ages"2 points

when talking about Dirty Rotten Bastards, everyone just talks about Mike's epic bass part or how the tune is Christmassy... but nobody talks about what a hopeless, depressing, and heartbreaking song this is. It's beautiful in a painful way, and just excruciating, heavily relatable to anyone who has ever felt so far gone that there was no hope left. It's even more so than Restless Heart Syndrome... especially the "carried away" part2 points

I listened to both tracks today because I haven't listened to them since, probably a day after they were released. I thought maybe I might like them better. I still despise FOAM. However, I don't hate Fire, Ready, Aim. As I listened to it, I realized it has a 60's vibe to it. I thought of The Monkees. I'm pretty sure GD was not trying to sound like The Monkees, but that is what it sounds like to me.1 point
