  1. I don't hate the songs, but if the entire album sounds like this, I'll be content with listening to it once or twice and then moving on.

  2. I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but i'm just gonna write it cause I need to get it out of my system. If you guys haven't heard, Chile has been in a full blown out chaos since Friday. It started out as a student's manifestation because of the raise of metro fare prices and in a matter of hours, it escalated into police brutality over the evasions, protests and riots all over the country over the social inequality of our socio-economical system and a declaration of state of emergency with military police on the streets and curfew time, which we haven't seen since the dictatorship in 1973-1990. Over the last days, I've been a part of the manifestations and it has been so horrible living the military repression that was taught to me in school and that my parents feared during the Pinochet years, especially because Chile has always been hailed as one of the most stable countries in Latin America and just 5 days ago, the president referred to our country as an "oasis in a convoluted continent" (goes to show you how thin the veil of democracy is). But underneath all that, there has been years of social discontent, class disparity, institutional distrust and political inefficacy that's been brewing inside of us that just exploded, without any kind of civic organization or political agenda, just everyday people going out in the streets because we had enough. During this last days, I've tried to listen to many of the albums that usually comfort me when I'm in this kind of mood; Parquet Courts' "Wide Awake", IDLES' "Joy as an Act of Ressistance", even American Idiot didn't work, but then I put on Revolution Radio and it just clicked. While I've never been a RR hater, I did criticize it at the moment for not being topical enough. I wondered why Billie didn't write Say Goodbye more explicitly about the BLM movement, or why Revolution Radio and Troubled Times sounded so lyrically empty. And it's just so funny how this three songs have been the only ones that have comforted me during this past week, and what I thought was just buzzwords took life on its own while I ran away from teargas and the police. I thank them for this now, because now I realize that repression isn't about a particular subject, it's a global issue that shares a common language that they expressed perfectly in this songs, and that the revolution against the establishment isn't always contingent, perfectly articulated or even rational, like it's usually romanticized in the dystopian movies. I used to say that those songs were a "fuck you just because", but damn if I don't feel like that after watching my family, friends and everyone surrounding me being screwed over for decades. So yeah, this one goes out to Revolution Radio, thank you for being the anthem that I needed for this moment in my life, because even though I'm scared shitless about history repeating itself, I'm also hopeful because I still see the spark in my people and I know that this has just begun. In any other time, I might have put it off another day, but not today.

  3. Yeah they can't do all the promo now or peoole will forget by February. I just hate the drawn out marketing. Single and album a month later is so much better.

  5. Pre-orders seems like good business today when there are fewer physical record stores to stock and its expensive to print way more copies of a record than you might sell. With pre-orders they get a better idea of how many to press to avoid a warehouse full later. There was more steady promotion in September but things seem to have died down. I was expecting more hype around FRA but with no music video it really does seem like this song was more for the NHL than an official single. They’ve done no promo for it other than that, which sucks because I think that song would sound awesome live. So now it’s gone quiet again and I want a proper single for more TV and radio promotion. I’m glad they’re doing the KROQ thing at least. Maybe they’re saving New York talk shows and promo for when the album comes.

  6. You don't spend enough time with the gd fandom when you feel surprised by random pictures of billie's ass

  7. Yeah I've been having issues with getting pre-orders the same day lately. I got RevRad same day, but I also got that from Amazon. I would much rather go out and get it, but I don't know if Target will have it, plus I wanted the explicit vinyl cover. And while I love record stores, their prices on new releases usually suck and I still have to keep my budget in mind.

  8. Green Day vs ‪Weezer vs Fall Out Boy – which band sits on the Hella Mega Tour’s iron throne? https://www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/green-day-vs-‪weezer-vs-fall-boy-band-sits-hella-mega-tour-iron-throne-2546827?utm_source=hootsuite&utm_medium=&utm_term=&utm_content=&utm_campaign= Did they really need to ask? It's Green Day, duh.

  9. I know, right? I'm still kind of bummed that I feel this way, but that's just it. All of this totally lacks passion so far, and I can't even really explain why. There's just a very weird aura surrounding the whole thing. I think moving to Crush and doing all the modern fancy stuff, like a long gap between single and album looked like a cool thing for them to do to stay relevant, but I start to believe that it was a mistake.

  10. It's not as excitint because for some reason there is a 5 month gap between single and album. Can't sustain hype that long. Seems like they are trying to build up pre-orders.

  13. I picked Slipknot's new one up at Target and returned my preorder from Amazon because it took so long. But then with Blink I couldn't find a physical copy ANYWHERE in store. Which after hearing it is no big deal. Haha. But I need Father of All in my hand by 8AM on release day! I like Green Day enough that I may pre order it and then also go and try and find it in store. If I can't find one within 40-50 miles I guess I'll download it and end up buying it three times !!!!! And while I used to go after those "book" versions of their albums, I am done with those. The Idiot one is a prized possesion for me but the Breakdown and Rev Rad ones just don't do much for me.

  14. They could do it like Prince and give the album away together with something. Prince did it with Mail on Sunday, GD could do the same deal with Kerrang. At this point it wouldn't even be that embarrassing

  15. I pre-ordered the CD in order to get the tour ticket presale as I’m sure a lot of people did. That and merch bundles are another way they stack the deck with presales and sell way more copies than they otherwise might these days. I already have Spotify I never would have bought the CD if it wasn’t to get the presale code.

  16. I haven’t pre-ordered it purely because I don’t think I have ever received a pre-order on the right day. AAF came a day early (not complaining about that one) but everything else has been late, UNO a week late! I will be heading for a record store, I still like a physical copy but am holding off going back to vinyl!

  17. I thought they would be doing more interviews, more magazine cover stories, and late night appearances too. Everything was so exciting about a month ago and now it's all quiet again. Maybe as we get closer to the release date it'll pick up again. On pre-orders, they're pretty necessary. Now you can't rely on big box stores to keep physical albums in stock even if they are by major artists. When I wanted to get Slipknot's new CD, the Target near me didn't even have it in store. I had to find a record store to get it. In most cases, it's just so much easier to do a pre-order and as long as artists keep making interesting bundles, it'll encourage more people to pre-order physical editions from the site. Though seriously Green Day has to alter their shipping.

  18. Your post has me singing "Corigraphed and lack of passion..." I enjoy the two new songs and weirdness this time around and like always, I believe the deep cuts will be miles above the singles. All my favorite Green Day songs are NOT singles. I'm not elitest who only loves unpopular songs or anything, just happened that way with them. We've got about 4 minutes of a 26 minute album. There's plenty of room for amazing tunes!

  20. @ANTI we hear a little about Chile, but it feels like we are in such a mess, we don’t have time to worry about others right now which is a dreadful state! I hope things improve and you stay safe. Glad you are finding comfort in Revrad. On a lighter note, I had two blackberries, last one was white, it was very cool and they were great. I still complain about touch screens being rubbish 😂😂

  28. I'm catching up on season 3 of Better Call Saul and if you don't know, his real name is Jimmy. Last night, he said something about being made to look like a saint in court. His friend girl then proclaims him "ST. JIMMY!" and said that it has a nice ring to it. I wonder if that was nod to Green Day, and I'm also wondering what year that was supposed to take place in, because it's a prequel. I'll have to investigate. ST. JIMMY!

  36. Even Amanda... I love so much that song. He says "you're a different woman, that's for certain" and comes from "I don't know a thing about" to "I wanna know about". And the chorus. And the solo. One of the reasons I love the trilogy is that it carries deep, heavy subjects and you cab't be unaware of that when listening to the lyrics, and the music itself has sadness in it but it's always a jam at the same time. I love Extraordinary Girl, Give Me Novacaine and Whatsername from AI, for instance, but they're so devoid of any joy it's sometimes hard to listen to them. While I could listen to Lazy Bones in a loop, it will be okay. It's one of my favorites and the saddest of the trilogy, for me, but it still gets me going.

  37. To me, the trilogy meant more than the music itself. It’s a serious indicator about how diseased the current music industry is, in that a song like ‘Gucci Gang’ can attract a billion views and sell millions of units, and a song like ‘The Forgotten’ barely makes a blib in the mainstream. It’s a testament to how there is not only something seriously wrong with modern day music, but human psychology as a whole. I truly believe if The Forgotten was sung and released by Elton John in the 70s, it would have been a number 1 single, and still a major hit 40 years later. Its just a really weird time, and great music and song writing does not appeal to the average person anymore.
