After what they said on Howard Stern about being open to staying with the right terms, I now see those earlier comments about Warner and releasing more music on their own as negotiation tactics. They want to make Warner nervous so they’ll come in with a better offer that meets their demands of more freedom to release on their own schedule and not to an album cycle and maybe more ownership of their material. By going public and talking about leaving it gets Warner to sit up and take notice of what they could be missing out on if they don’t deal. I can’t think of any other reason why they would be so public about it except for the fact that negotiations for the future could be happening now and GD are anxious to get things settled. If they do decide to leave this way it makes Warner look like the bad guys.3 points

I have a course on art marketing, so I could write an essay on how FOAM is promoted, but the problem is that the whole thing is so all over the place that I have no idea how to analyze it. It literally spans from things that are reasonable and make sense all the way to a territory of what seems to be complete bullshit. In order from meaningful to fuckery: Appearances - nothing to fuck up here Hella Mega and NHL - both good for visibility and exposure to new audiences, nothing to criticize here, my only comment is that introducing FRA as a jingle might influence its reception as a single (if it is a single) - either way, it'd be cool to at least play it live so that it doesn't look like 2 minutes of the 26 minute album is just an ad jingle. Nothing out of the ordinary on social media, except for the now apparently aborted attempt at tiktok (no it wasn't a good idea). Looking at the vast emptiness of their Twitters, it's likely futile to try to get them to create content anywhere other than on IG, so I'd just stick to IG and keep the lives going. (Honorable mention to the entire FOAM video being an ad on youtube). I almost forgot the song descriptions that are basically a rehash of what they did for FBHT. It worked in character, not so much the way it's done now. Visuals - what the fuck is this unicorn thing, who approved it and most importantly, why. I guess the idea was to make something dank, similarly to GFB, but the idea of GFB made sense. Videos aren't weird, thankfully. Interviews - what the fuck...what the fuck. No one is this stupid, so there has to be a reason why they're saying things like "maybe we'll release something else before the tour starts" while they're promoting an album, but why? If it wasn't for statements like this, the whole thing would look less unfocused and uncoordinated. This is super confusing, because when you think of what budget they're working with, they're most definitely bullshitting, because releasing something else would kind of fuck this entire project over, and they most definitely want to make money, but "we'll just do something else cha cha chaaaa" simply really isn't what you'd say to promote anything for fuck sake. The rest of the promo isn't so weird and isn't bad, but this "we don't give a fuck hee hee" undermines any serious effort. Maybe this isn't that bad but it's been a month and I'm still wondering what exactly is all this supposed to mean. Talk about delivering a clear message.3 points

When your hubby brings home a bag of beanie babies to sell at our garage sale next summer and you look through them for a unicorn. there wasn't one.3 points

Yeah but Mike has been saying this literally for every album release 😂 I'd rather hear them just say it's going to suck and laugh at that comment. The comment would fit the album cover well that's for sure. I still find it hilarious that fans are still trying to make any sense of this era. It's not going to make any sense. Trying to find a meaning to any of this is harder than riding a unicycle while jumping through a hoop of fire with a lion chasing you.2 points

I also noticed how in just about every interview they brought up being at the end of their contract with Warner and Crush management. Now with what Billie said during the Howard Stern interview it makes a lot of sense. I definitely think this is their way of making Warner nervous and saying, you don't want us to leave? Pony up!2 points

Article here from Rock Sound: "Green Day's 'American Idiot' is one of the highest selling albums of the millennium" It's been a good few weeks to be a member of Green Day. Not to cause undue panic, but we are rapidly closing in on the end of the second decade of the 2000s. That's 20 years since the dawn of the millennium. 20 YEARS. As such, it's time to crunch some numbers and present some lists - and the most recent one was done by the UK chart body, quantifying the biggest albums of the 2000s to date. To qualify for an appearance on the list, the album simply had to be released on or after January 01, 2000. Simple stuff. And taking out number 31 is none other than Green Day's iconic rock opera 'American Idiot' - released 15 years ago in 2004. When it was released, 'American Idiot' debuted at number one in the UK chart after selling a reported 89,385 copies in the first week. A monumental effort. It's estimated that since its release, Green Day have sold over 16 million units worldwide. HUGE.2 points

When you do this to your sister's dogs. Charlie and Cooper must prefer GD's older stuff because clearly they weren't meant to be unicorns. Although Cooper, like many people here, seemed to finally accept his new friend.2 points

I was recently diagnosed with panic disorder and it's been hell to deal with. I remember reading on several occasions that Billie Joe also suffers from anxiety/panic disorder and would like to know if he has ever mentioned it or talked about it besides the lyrics to Basket Case.1 point

You're spot on about the how do you do fellow kids vibe. They're missing their target audience with all this unicorny stuff1 point

I know they definitely said that during 21CB and the trilogy. Idk if they said anything like that during the RevRad era but I wouldn't be surprised. It felt genuine when Billie said that about 21CB, like he really thought that was their best work and I still agree with that1 point

The promotion isn't badly done, it's mainly the band that's making me look at it like "you are...doing what?" I thought about what I had to say about the way it's promoted and yeah, it's not that odd. And despite the fact that it's far from what I'd like or want, I see it's crafted to make new fans and money and thats's what it should do.1 point

They still could do that if Warner doesn’t meet their terms but there are advantages to staying with them too. I would guess things are going to be better for fans either way because they won’t give anything up to stay. If Warner agrees, they’ll release more music like they want to. They won’t stay if it continues to tie them to album only deals.1 point

Also the whole "this is the best thing we've done" is something all artists and bands say about their new music. And of course they would! Not only are they most likely genuinely excited about new material, but they're trying to get people excited for it.1 point

You're reading your conference schedule rooming assignments and it says "LACC West 409" and your brain automatically adds "in your coffee maker" (fingers crossed the room doesn't change just so I can take a pic before/after the session)1 point

I've only just realised Billie says "that was pretty tasty" after Sex, Drugs & Violence on Demolicious. Also I didn't notice Jeff's vocals live but they ruin most videos from this show Glad I watched it tho because I get way too excited about spotting myself in the crowd and my smiling face is lurking1 point

Sorry I didn't want to bring him up but the realization that my pitchy wailing along choruses counts as backing vocals good enough to play in a band with bja hits me hard. I can still make it!1 point

I wonder where this album will sit on my personal ranking of Green Day albums! Nothing can really touch my impenetrable top three, but an amazing album could potentially take the number 4 spot. Will FOAM be able to do that? I'm not entirely sure yet, but I can make some predictions. I don't have the reverence for Dookie that most people do. I love it, it's fairly high on my list.... but I'm probably in the minority thinking I may like FOAM more! I think that's a possibility. I really enjoyed Rev Rad a heck of a lot. After hearing 20 percent of Father of All, I'm going to be optimistic and say it'll land my #5 spot. Worst case scenario, I'd say it ends up between Breakdown and Insomniac, putting at #10. Maybe just below Insomniac, putting it at #11. I just don't see it being less enjoyable than either of their pre-dookie albums. I would be pretty bummed if Kerplunk made my ear happier than this album. 1.American Idiot 2.Warning 3.Nimrod 4.Revolution Radio 5.Dookie 6.Tre 7.Uno 8.Dos 9.21st Century Breakdown 10.Insomniac 11.1039 Smoothed 12.Kerplunk I wonder if ANY songs on the new album will sound like traditional Green Day? Kind of hope there's none of that. No old Green Day, only new!0 points
