Yeah, I won't lie that I'm not a little sad about it, but if they can't do it anymore, they can't. A shorter, high energy set might be the good choice over a bit tired longer one (if that was the alternative). Of course, they're invincible, but I guess we have to respect if they need to take measures to stay that way2 points
-
Yeah (like me!) the guys are getting older and probably can't keep playing those long sets anymore. Most shows on the RevRad Tour were just over two hours whereas it was closer to three hours on the 21CB Tour2 points
-
I think it could be the runtime. If they cut down on the heyhos, long songs and kfad, they could still play a reasonable set in 90 minutes. Hopefully it wouldn't mean they only play the hits - a shorter set with more variety could be a good compromise. If this is a choice they made, I don't really have a problem to accept it. Obviously I'd love if they kept playing long shows, but they're human too, so it's understandable if they don't feel like doing it any more.2 points

Just listening to the Longshot album and if you eliminate the final track which is a cover anyway there are ten tracks that clock in at around 28 minutes. So I expect FOAMF with a similar number of tracks and total run time if the songs are fun it should feel like a complete album at least.2 points

I don't think the songs are actually bad. They're catchy for sure. I guess my expectation was just different from GD at this point in their career. They keep going back to this "stipped down, simple rock" music as if they haven't done that for 80% of their career. They keep pretending they are going into new territory but they've DONE THIS BEFORE (Foxboro, Trilogy). I guess I just expected more complete songs that you can tell a lot of work was put into. Songs with more detail and subtlety. People hate on Weezer but at least you can tell that they really take time fleshing out songs. Green Day seems like they want to just write "easy A" songs and present it as some sort of commentary or stylistic choice. I like the new songs, but they've been writing short punk songs since 1988 (with better lyrics and more fully fleshed out). Why do they keep acting like this stuff is new for them?2 points

I thought it was the aborted original music video for FOAM that Billie said was a disaster.1 point

Throughout the day, I'll suddenly think out of nowhere god dammit Billie is so fucking hot! This is happening more and more frequently with this new era. I can't get enough of him. More promos and performances, please!1 point

I wonder where this album will sit on my personal ranking of Green Day albums! Nothing can really touch my impenetrable top three, but an amazing album could potentially take the number 4 spot. Will FOAM be able to do that? I'm not entirely sure yet, but I can make some predictions. I don't have the reverence for Dookie that most people do. I love it, it's fairly high on my list.... but I'm probably in the minority thinking I may like FOAM more! I think that's a possibility. I really enjoyed Rev Rad a heck of a lot. After hearing 20 percent of Father of All, I'm going to be optimistic and say it'll land my #5 spot. Worst case scenario, I'd say it ends up between Breakdown and Insomniac, putting at #10. Maybe just below Insomniac, putting it at #11. I just don't see it being less enjoyable than either of their pre-dookie albums. I would be pretty bummed if Kerplunk made my ear happier than this album. 1.American Idiot 2.Warning 3.Nimrod 4.Revolution Radio 5.Dookie 6.Tre 7.Uno 8.Dos 9.21st Century Breakdown 10.Insomniac 11.1039 Smoothed 12.Kerplunk I wonder if ANY songs on the new album will sound like traditional Green Day? Kind of hope there's none of that. No old Green Day, only new!1 point

I just realized there was a unicorn in the bang bang lyric video.1 point

Spent most of my work day listening to RevRad and 21CB. Still two of my fav albums and I'm hoping FOAMF has some 21CB elements to it1 point

It's quite a lot like Foxies imo, not only because of the 60's influence but also because of the rev-like descriptions and the aesthetic (I guess). Both Foxies and Longshot are better, but this is a decent continuation of the side projects and Dos. But yes, I must admit that I can't fully shake off feeling somewhat like "are they...okay?", despite the fact that I kind of enjoy the songs and believe that art should be judged independently but...I still can't fully get into the mood, most probably because this era gives me trilogy flashbacks.1 point
-
Although these two new songs do nothing for me lyrically, I still really enjoy them. Great fun. To me it's Green Day at their most disposable. Fun and exhilarating while you listen, but not something you really think about after. I think if you lower / adjust your expectations, this album should be a lot of fun.1 point
-
Its like Green Day are throwing a massive party that I don't feel like going to. But I'll go along anyway because we're old friends and I may end up enjoying myself.. or I may just check it out and go home early.. At least they seem to be having fun..1 point

After seeing Billie post that fan made poster with his FOAM description, I kind of see what he's going for. Seems the descriptions are in the style of old, cheesy music adverts ("The new soul, glam" etc) you might see in the 50s/60s.1 point

Cuties!!! Yesterday at Howard Stern And last one is just for @Montclare because, Mike's pant length. Edit: I should preface this with, these are from Getty Images, do not remove the watermark or crop them.1 point

I've really been loving FOAM lately and I listen to it a lot in my car. I don't like Fire, Ready, Aim as much, but I think it's a fun song, it's really not that bad. I'm very excited for the album, can't wait to hear the rest of the songs. 😄February seems so far away though. I hope time moves fast.1 point

Or, maybe because a 37 song trilogy with tiny guitars, overproduced and uninspiring vocals, mid-life crisis induced lyrics about themes that hardly even seem connected to Billie Joe Armstrong, and absolutely zero room for Tre and Mike to show their talents was, y'know, a bad idea. Exhibit A: "Where did you come from? Where have you been? Looks like you fell into the trash bin" From A Little Boy Named Train (shockingly, not nominated for record of the year) B: "Sex, drugs & violence English, math & science, Safety in numbers Give me, give me danger" From SD&V C: "Oh, anyhow, anywhere Kiss me there, oh kiss me there Oh, scream and shout, truth or dare Kiss me there, oh kiss me there" From Makeout Party D: "Where in the world’s the forgotten? They’re lost inside your memory You’re dragging on, your heart’s been broken As we all go down in history" and "Well, don’t look away from the arms of a bad dream Don’t look away, sometimes you’re better lost than to be seen Don’t look away from the arms of a moment Don’t look away from the arms of tomorrow Don’t look away from the arms of a moment Don’t look away from the arms of love" From the inimitable "The Forgotten" E: "Wanna be a Troublemaker Wanna be a Troublemaker Wanna be a Troublemaker Wanna be a Troublemaker Hey! I like your BMW I like your BM-excellent tits With a tattoo of a pig sniffing glue" From Troublemaker F: "Hanging out all by myself, at least I make good company Hey, isn't that a whatshisface that I see walking down the street I'm gonna hide in the shadows 'cause I really got nothing to say We never had anything in common and I never liked you anyway" From Loss of Control G: "Everything that I want I want from you But I just can't have you Everything that I need I need from you But I just can't have you" From Stray Heart Alright, there's what I am going to consider evidence of cliche, lazy, or subpar lyricism in the trilogy. There's many more examples, but there's a start. Now, if they had been making melodies/harmonies as tight as Kerplunk/Dookie or the instruments matched the level of Insomniac Warning or Nimrod, then maybe I'd let the lyrics go, hell I listen to music with far worse lines than this, but I've certainly come to realize Green Day are a standard above the norm, a HOF band that is worth more than the trilogy displayed1 point

More people would know DRB than half of ¡Dos!, so I don't see why they didn't give it a shot. Plus, this is probably an unpopular opinion but I actually thought DRB was one of the best written songs on the Trilogy, even if it goes against the flow of the rest of the album of the 3 which I came from.1 point
-
I've been wondering why they never played Dirty Rotten Bastards live since Billie Joe himself said that it was written as an arena sing along type song1 point
-
I honestly think that the trilogy had an hours worth of songs that are every bit as good, commercial, and grammy worthy as 21CB. It was basically a really good pop rock album nothing special and it had some crap songs but stuff like "Brutal Love", "Amy", and "Stray Heart" are really cool vintage sounding songs1 point
-
Dirty Rotten Bastards is amazing. Nightlife is pretty amazing. The Trilogy was just amazing. Have you heard the Red Hot Chili Peppers? They start off one of my favorite songs with "I've got a bad disease." It's so simple and beautiful, instantly sets the mood of the song.1 point
-
I like the Trilogy! And I have no idea why people complain about it. When the secret shows were happening and we were hearing these songs for the 1st time everyone loved it and loved the songs, suddenly the albums come out and half the people change there minds and hate it all of a sudden, 1 year later everyone hates it. And you know why.... Everyone has a short attention span these days, shiny new things are all people seem to want, then when its not new any more everybody hates it and keeps shouting about what they want next. Enjoy the now a little more!1 point

I think American Idiot would be an even greater album if it didn't include She's A Rebel in it. I mean, i really love the song, but it just doesn't fit all the stuff going on in the album. If they put Favorite Son instead of She's A Rebel and put the song on the b-sides i think that would've made the album better. Personally speaking here.1 point

That three note lead guitar run in the chorus of 21 Guns is the most annoying thing they've ever done.1 point

I like Mike's voice better than Billie's. I also like John's drumming better than Tré's, in a way. I just feel that Tré's style is more suited for poppier songs and John's is better for harder ones. I can only dream of what Insomniac would have been had Mr. Sobrante percussed...1 point

I didn't like the amount of times Billie used the word fuck on Uno or Dos, rather I think the amount of fucks he gave on Tre was just right.1 point
