  1. It's a beautiful vocal performance for sure. That's my favourite thing about it too. I love how the sweet tone of his vocals is juxtaposed with the "creepy" lyrics. It really captures how people speak casually or even sweetly when saying weird or obsessive things about celebrities they wouldn't say about regular people. Yeah, like around the time Drama Queen and She's A Saint Not A Celebrity were written, Billie had been defending Britney Spears (although that's another thing I remember but can't find any record of now). I don't interpret the blood as explicitly menstrual, but as a metaphor for how young the subject is when people start obsessing over her, or just how people blatantly discuss intimate things about celebrities. Definitely difficult to pull off - I'm thinking of writing a novel about a stalker but it has to be perfectly executed or people will think it's autobiographical!

  5. He overall just has a vast knowledge of the military and especially weapons. Also the drill sergeants told us to turn off our brains and become like robots and I think they might've used him as an example. Something like that.

  6. It’s Aaron’s zine. I don’t think there’s an electronic version. You can still buy for like $5 I think. Edit: here’s where to order it: https://microcosmpublishing.com/catalog/zines/3501

  9. I see it as a double meaning - a deliberately creepy way to say she's young and also old enough to suffer because she's expected to put up with the way she's treated. I remember I saw a quote about the Britney Spears thing, but I can't remember where it came from.

  10. I only remember it vaguely, but he was being dramatic about Green Day being mainstream and how he doesn't like that as a punk and what he mentioned as an example was ppl blasting Basket Case at a military base. You're his worst nightmare

  12. Had a dream that some of the guys took Billie to an archery range for his birthday (could only see Billie, Bill, and Chris). And not quite GD, but right after had a dream that my sister found a stuffed koala from her childhood that was named Mr. Preston.

  13. Here it is so no one else has to scroll through the long article: Cantiello: There was a stream of people coming down to do press after it, and I remember the All-American Rejects [singer] Tyson Ritter, and he was like, "Kanye's a jackass" or something -- like, "What the hell's he doing?" I remember Billie Joe from Green Day had strong words like, "What the hell was that? Let the girl have her moment!" (and it says at the bottom that they reached out to him for comment)

  16. I read that at the time but had forgotten about it. That's a pretty brave road to take and very difficult to get it come off. I find Drama Queen a little disturbing, so that may indicates it's doing a good job. I never thought the blood was meant to be menstrual which I have heard some think. I always thought the Daddy's little bundle of joy was written in the same way as daddy's little psycho in Bang Bang, it's not about him or someone close to him but third person, yes, someone like Miley Cyrus would fit. Difficult to write a song about being embarrassing and creepy without being embarrassing and creepy!

  17. People miss the point of Drama Queen. It's about "obsession with celebrity" (source). The lyrics are embarrassing and creepy because the way people speak about celebrities is embarrassing and creepy. It's meant to make the listener uncomfortable. It fits so well into the trilogy's themes about an age gap relationship because the woman in particular would be spoken of in a patronising and creepy way. I actually like it but that belongs in unpopular opinions
