I think it's perfectly legitimate to make political songs that don't have a specific message. Granted I prefer ones that are more specific because they're usually more interesting and hard hitting but it's ok to just express confusion or to wish for a better situation etc too. Troubled Times doesn't make a particular political point but I don't think it has to, it's made to express feelings of confusion and worry. I don't find "rallying cry" songs like Revolution Radio that interesting but again I think they're still artistically legitimate and come from an honest place. They don't have much point as political protest but they do as an expression of personal (and often relatable) feelings. Also they gave songs like Troubled Times more bite with the videos (MLK crying and Trump with KKK hoods for teeth). And I think Say Goodbye and the accompanying video make some pretty bold points. Like, the ballsier their writing about politics is the happier I'll be but they're still allowed to make other types of songs on the subject.5 points

I still can't believe people got to see this on the giant screens at Hyde Park. Big consolation when you're not in front rows5 points

I'd forgotten about Troubled Times, that is so disappointingly bland to me. "We live in troubled times" - yes, clearly, anyone who reads a newspaper or just looks out the window on a bad day can tell you that, what's your point? It just swaps the title track's enthusiastic stream of useless slogans for morosely stating the obvious with no further depth, and I see both of those as equally pointless. Compare to what I think is the best political song ever written, and from a band we know GD are big fans of: Every single line states its case and makes its point without ever sounding remotely contrived, it's observation without banality and a call to arms without cliché. I don't expect this level of writing from future GD because I wouldn't expect it from anyone, but I'd like some more concrete writing than the kind of political commentary I could get by programming a Vaguely Leftist Sentiment Bot.3 points

Love is for Losers is so dang good. It's been in constant rotation since he released it. If I want recent GD/Billie songs, I go to that record. It's not that I don't love RevRad, because I do, I just find the longshot a bit more enjoyable right now. (Forever Now will always be in heavy rotation though.)2 points

I'm not sure but I don't think he's specifically said whether he's been diagnosed with it professionally, just mentioned having it a few times. Or it might be that he got diagnosed after he said that quote. There were some interviews around when Rev Rad was first coming out where he talked about how he'd used alcohol and pills etc as self medication for anxiety/social anxiety. Again I don't know if he said it explicitly but from the way he spoke about that it sounded like he's had some professional treatment for issues like that at some point. In any case from interviews in recent years it definitely sounds like he's taking care of himself and getting any help he needs to live life happily.2 points

From April 30, 2015 Rolling Stone article, "Billie Joe Armstrong Talks ‘Surreal’ Hall of Fame Night, New Green Day LP" You looked like you were having a lot of fun when you took that guitar solo in “I Wanna Be Your Man” at the end. That was great. Paul Shaffer did a great job. It’s tough trying to coordinate a bunch of musicians that probably have ADHD and OCD and a couple of other initials here and there. It was really fun. He just said, “Take a solo.” I’m like, “All right, cool.” He didn't say himself personally but I think he was including himself into "a bunch of musicians". And this article from Guitar Player, December, 2016 Admit it, Billie, you like playing rhythm more than soloing—even though you played most of the solos on your records. "Yeah. I think of myself as basically a rhythm player. I like playing guitar solos, but, I don’t know—maybe I just have too much ADHD to focus on more than one animal at a time".2 points

I don’t think it’s bad to call him a centrist or confused about politics either. Not everyone has to have an extreme viewpoint to have a viewpoint. In fact, I think his political songs are more relatable when he says he’s just sad about things and feels helpless. I think most of us feel that way and don’t have any clear answers. I do think it’s honest. It’s almost phony for him to write a song detailing how we should tear the system down when no one is actually going to do that, we’re going to continue to watch events unfold as a form of entertainment until the world collapses under its own weight. And oh yeah, don’t forget to vote. These are valid feelings.2 points

Even though I like the design it seems kind of a lame imitation of a DIY shirt. Paying those $$$ instead of just writing it on a cheap shirt yourself like Billie did, maybe the wording on the shirt would be accurate2 points

The last time it was posted it was by Adrienne, reminding everyone he was adorable after his fuck filled rant at a fan/troll. 😂2 points

I found this one example of Billie mentioning it, from the Sunday Times in 2009 "These kids there would be saying things like, 'If you're not paying attention right now, that's Satan taking your mind away.' It was evil. And me, I have ADHD, so I'm there thinking about a million things. I mean, God forbid that you might be sitting in church thinking, 'God, I'd really like to f--k that girl.' You know, 'Satan, get out of my brain." I know there's been other times he's talked about it as well. I don't think he's ever gone into a lot of detail about it though.1 point

I actually thought Blink's last album was their best to date. Not perfect, the overuse of the whoa-oh's and nanana's was my main issue with it but I still thought it was a great album (Unpopular opinion, I know). I don't think their old albums were that good. They have good songs on those albums but idk, to me they're pretty underwhelming overall. I listened to Simple Creature's EP yesterday (collab between Mark Hoppus and Alex Gaskarth from All Time Low) and that shit sucks Linkin Park's last album I still think was meh. It has grown on me a bit but idk, I still think it's their weakest album to date. It's like a mix of Living Things and the last 4 songs of Minutes to Midnight but worse. It's still very listenable and quite enjoyable but still such a disappointment after The Hunting Party. Weezer has just become a meme at this point. Their cover of Africa became their biggest hit in a decade and they've become desperate for attention now. The Black Album is terrible, much worse than Pacific Daydream Paramore I think is one band that has pulled off the switch to pop well. Even though After Laughter isn't one of my favourites of their albums, it's still good pop music and their music was evolving from pop punk (All We Know is Falling/Riot) to alt rock (Brand New Eyes) to pop/pop-rock (Paramore) to full on pop (After Laughter)1 point

The thing is, you first need the politics and then comes the writing. We expect a pronounced message from a centrist and then we're disappointed.1 point

I love Going Underground. This is one of those times when I wish The Coverups took requests because I long thought this would be a great song for them to do.1 point

When I showed people a live vid of Still Breathing, the first thing they noticed are the drums, then the guitars and bass. If that's the poppiest GD can get, it's still very rock. I don't think they will change their good old formula of giving the drums a center place along with catchy guitars. I still like some less rock stuff artists make more nowadays, but I don't wish or think GD will try to resemble that. I would still like to have a ballad or soft song or two per album, as we've got until now. Billie is very gifted to write those1 point

Maybe Billie did it and decided to post it to his own account instead ETA: he turned comments off not sure why. Anyone see the comments, were there trolls?1 point

Basically he's so cute everyone wants to post it . I think he posted it as well around the same time she did, plus of course he has the badges of similar ones that he wears to proudly show off his cuteness everywhere he goes1 point

Yeah I do think that those songs do have some good lines in them. But overall, they feel clichéd with the choruses of 99R and TT just repeating the same clichéd lines and RevRad seems to be about nothing in particular. Even though it was inspired by BLM, nothing in the song really indicates that it's about anything in particular1 point

AND he's completely upbeat, interacting with the crowd and smiling and joking through all of it. I can't believe people complain about him lying down during KFAD1 point

Lmao how many times has he posted that, he loves to show everyone how cute he was1 point

Billies running and jumping around the stage for two and a half hours, while nailing the songs, is astonishing. And to find out he has asthma made me even more in awe of his performances. Whenever I've spoken to people who haven't seen GD I don't think they quite understand just how much he moves around stage during a show.. and for two and a half hours... and in his mid 40's. He defies nature.1 point

When you tell people your favorite number is 317718 because when typed into a calculator and turned upside down it spells Billie. Give it a try.1 point

I definitely think that there'll be new material someday. An actual album, not until after the next GD one, but it's always possible for more eps when Billie's bored in his garage.1 point
