  1. I love this picture ever since he did the photoshoot for RS magazine after his rehab. He looks so vulnerable. Anyway, since it's Billie's birthday today, lets have a more serious moment. Billie Joe is my role model in so many ways. He stands up for what he believes in. He takes care of everyone he loves. He knows how to put a smile on everybody faces. He gives back a lot to his community. Billie is a beautiful human being. He went through a lot during his life, having his ups and downs. In the end, he never gave up. Billie inspired me to become a better person. I have my ups and downs too and I wanted to give up so many times. But when I look at him, I feel like I must continue to hold on. If somebody like him can succeed in life with ADHD, I can too with my ADD. I am not good at playing music, but I have other artistic skills. Billie worked very hard to develop his musical talent and create his career. I know I will do the same with my own artistic talents. When I'm affraid to fail, I think about Billie and how hard he worked to succeed. I felt like a failure for so many years. The perception of myself changed thanks to him. When I was a teen, I was kind of affraid of him. Billie represented the type of guy I wanted to hate. But, over the years, the more I discovered him as a person, the more I understood him. I realized I was totally wrong about him. Never judge a book by its cover! Over the years, so many things changed in my life, for the better and the worst. Billie was always closed by in my heart, but I never understand it until I saw him live for the 1st time in 2010. Seeing him how passionate he was and how hard he was trying to make sure nobody felt left out at the concert, he simply blew me away that night. The guy has the abilty to change the world. He can touch everybody's heart and soul. It is a weird thing to say, but the first image I've ever seen of Billie on tv was his mugshot when he got arrested for drunk driving. If I had stop looking at him back then after what he had done wrong, I wouldn't be able to say today, on his 46th birthday, that I'm grateful that he is in my life. I don't know him personally, but he's like a friend to me. He inspired me everyday. Whenever I feel depressive, sad, mad... his presence (even if it's just on a paper, a magazine, the cds) cheer me up. When I want to figure out a situation, I try to relate to him. When I need to see a smile, he's the one I go to look at. If I was ever able to meet him someday, the most important thing for me to tell him is «Thank you». So, yeah, sorry for the long post, but the birthday boy deserved to be celebrated. 46 years old and he is still looking young, rocking the world and touching so many hearts! I'm grateful he is in my life. I hope it will be the case for many more years to come. Billie is a beautiful human being. He deserved to have the best birthday ever. (Can I say that this post was about fangirling on Billie's personality? In any case, Billie Joe is hawt!)

  2. I wanted to edit the first sentence so that it would say "Billie Joe Armstrong has been alive for 46 slutty, slutty years" and share a link in the birthday thread. Would've edited it back the next day. I got stuck writing an essay and needed to do something different for a moment Ugh not funny

  3. Can I just say that this thread has been absolutely on fire recently? You guys are the best fangirls around and I absolutely love reading all of the wonderful things you have to say about our boys. To stay on topic, one of the things about Billie that I really look up to is his ability to get people to listen without having to shout other people down or be an attention seeking whore. There's so much ignorance in the world atm that it's difficult to get people to listen. In Billie's case, he can be pretty quiet and withdrawn, but as soon as he opens his mouth, people are hanging on every word. I mean, look at him, he has an entire forum of us analyzing every lyric he writes and interpreting it in every single way it could possibly be interpreted. Seriously, it's a talent and I really admire that about him because I'm a quiet person like Billie, and I can't think of a single person outside of GDC that regularly listens to what I have to say. Billie is my main source of hope that things will change in the near future. It also works the opposite way too, I'm more likely to listen to what other people have to say thanks to Billie. I'm not as stubborn as I used to be and I'm a lot more willing to try and understand other people's point of view, even if I don't necessarily agree with it. Billie has taught me so much in the past two years of me being a fan. I've learned more from him than I've learned from my entire family combined. I'm a much better person for it, and I know that a lot of you feel the same way. If Billie has the ability to change so many people's lives, I truly believe he has the ability to change the world. He always says he wants to change the world and I believe in him 100 percent. He's an inspiration to all of us.

  4. That is also consistent with other lyrics on the trilogy like “drinking angel’s piss” in Nuclear Family. So my muscle memory failed me listening to Hitchin a Ride the other day and I honestly couldn’t remember whether it was “the well that inebriates the guilt” or “the well that alleviates the guilt” since they sound almost exactly alike and alleviates the guilt is an actual phrase. So once I looked it up and verified it was “inebriates” it struck me what a brilliant bit of wordplay that was. 💚

  7. In these difficult and cynical times it’s so lovely to see all these birthday wishes to someone who we all love and hold in such high regard, very heartwarming. I hope it gives him some idea of how much he’s loved.

  8. I wonder if Billie's Wikipedia page got trolled often. I had some malicious intentions with it earlier today and discovered it's locked for editing to protect it from vandalism.

  9. Mike's new beard offends me. That is all I want to say. Oh, but his post on gun control meant a lot to me. I have some personal connections and experiences I would not have if there was adequate gun control in the US. Not trying to start something, I can't do the debate. Just saying, based on some personal factors, this hit home.

  10. My favorite part of all of their birthdays is seeing the posts they make to each other. Long live these three

  11. I think a lot of people refer to them as "That band that made that American Idiot song" or "21 Guns" or "I Walk Alone" or "That September song" But yeah, I think most people would know at least 1 or 2 GD songs even if they don't know the name of the band

  12. Man, everything he says is just so beautiful and hope-inspiring. He has a way with words.

  13. I don't know if it is bigger haha, I think it's dead everywhere aside from maybe some indie acts that are heavily pop/dance/electronic influenced. If anything I think it's holding on better in the US judging by how much it seems to be played on the radio there (going by people's posts on GDC) and how you still see bands like GD or Red Hot Chili Peppers etc on big TV shows. There was rock here in the 90s but it was more Britpop/British indie bands. A lot of the well known US rock bands in the 90's/00's were barely even known here and I think albums like Dookie made much more of an impression over there.

  14. I love this silly dirty boy. His belly looks so perfect and squishy in that one. And the look of pure joy on his face is breathtaking.

  15. I couldn't say better how I feel about Billie. Thanks to him I learned to have respect and kindness for myself, before waiting for others to give some to me. I think of Billie every day, multiple times a day, and I feel so much joy and gratefulness. In my childhood years I've been through a dark period where I was terribly alone and sad. That loneliness made me literally cry every day of despair. I adopted extreme, dangerous habits to try to get away from all that, from feeling so left behind and broken-hearted. At age 16 to 18, those habits nearly killed me several times. When I was a teenager, if I had fallen on GD's music, I'm not sure I would have been as touched as I was when discovering them a year in a half ago. The time I became a fan was really great for me, because I was just discovering I was able to get over the bad habits, but now, a year and a half later, I see that I would not have been able to keep on without Billie. Too many vulnerabilities that kept making me want to fuck myself up, without Billie I wouldn't have been able to keep myself alive probably. Now I'm living and I find life wonderful. An immense thank you is all I would have to say if I met him

  17. Writing the word fucking as "f*@k!#g" and having a block on anything that even looks like swearing sounds like two lame moves from the same person/people to me . Add in the try hard meme posting and it's all a bit cringeworthy.

  18. I prefer it this way, it would be too freaky if they were in Paris right now Perhaps the person who blocked @pacejunkie punk and the one who wished Billie happy birthday through GD's account are not the same?

  20. It's piss. There's an interview with Lady Cobra that mentions it- There is also a song Lady Cobra which features on their album Dos; what does that song mean to you? LC: The song is a bit of an introduction to Nightlife or an invitation to the MKOTC/Green Day party. Not everyone can handle the party though, shit gets weird. People drink piss.

  21. Not permanently, just blocked from saying “f*@k!#g” in a post. 🙄 This is Green Day for fuck’s sake.

  23. I find that so interesting given that rock is bigger outside the US these days at least (even if it wasn't in the 90s). I guess that initial movement here really mattered the most in terms of spreading their name.

  26. That is an old photo. According to posts, all of the Armstrong family and other SWMRS families are in Hawaii right now. Which sounds like an awesome place to spend a birthday.

  27. No, I believe that's an old photo from when they were in Paris last year. I'm loving all of these birthday posts. I'm so glad that my favourite human has so many people around him that love and support him so much.

  30. As @Hermione and @Christian's Inferno! said, in France notably there aren't so many people who know Green Day, and if they know some of the few hits that get heard on the radio, they most often don't know it's Green Day; and the only people (including musicians) whom I talked about Green Day and who knew the band's name, had stopped to Dookie era or American Idiot era, anyways they had no idea Green Day were still around after all these years. I agree, but I think it must depend on the photos; I remember the first time I showed my boss a picture of Billie in 2017 (a random picture from a February gig) he thought he was 25, which nearly surprised me Also, my boss has been doing his job for more than 30 years (34 exactly, and he was the youngest lawyer of 1984 French promotion at age 23) so when I told him some other guy has been doing his own stuff for more than 30 years and he sees that agile, smol guy with a huge smile and a bunch of curly hair...

  35. I was under the impression When It's Time was recorded specifically for the AI cast album. I Fought the Law came out early in 2004, while American Idiot came out late in 2004. Green Day was in the studio from the tail end of 2002 until summer of 2004, so I wouldn't call all of that the AI sessions, since they did C&V, the Christmas album, the Network, and AI during that time. But I Fought the Law was recorded sometime during that timeframe.

  36. I'd have to guess the Guild, it doesn't particularly sound like a Gibson. Although obviously he uses his signature Gibson to do it live, but that's probably because it sounds better plugged in. Epiphone acoustics are amazing, or failing that Tanglewood are great for the price in my experience.
