  1. I started a band with my sister We are two black girls who write songs about bullshit we deal with and I am so excited for that post

  2. The irony of this post is heavy.

  3. Maybe he means the type of weak/vague positive message people tend to suggest making when the idea of making a real/honest/strong protest message that they don't like comes up. They aren't just saying spread a positive message, they're saying it in opposition to the idea of making a noise about things that should have noise made about them.

  4. I think some people are over analyzing what Billie is saying. It’s as simple as this: what the hell happened to protest rock? It’s completely gone, and it’s sad. The only place you find it now is in hip hop. I admire that some hip hop artists, like Kendrick Lamar, speak the truth with no concern for niceties or possibly offending someone. That’s what we need again in rock bands, and we need it from the millennial and post-millennial generation. I think it’s very encouraging to read the comments in Billie’s post and see how many young people are telling Billie that he is their inspiration, that they’re starting a rock band or learning to play a guitar. More rock musicians need to be inspiring young musicians to take up the cause and to not be afraid of stepping on toes.

  5. Is this a good time to bring this back #guyswithnewspapers

  6. Journalist, eh? I like both Billie and newspapers, you're not the only one. A long time ago someone posted a picture of him reading a newspaper, I remember it made me way too excited. Can't find it now Edit: unbelievable - I just went on tumblr and here it is! Someone I follow's just dug it up and posted.

  9. I just wanted to say I totally agree with these posts! I believe that's what he intended. We're all interpreting Billie's post as we wish to, including you.

  11. My intention wasn't to analyse or debate whether his message was positive or negative. There's not much to analyse tbh, it's not as if it's an out of character thing to say. I just think it's more likely that "fuck a positive message" meant "no, we have enough of that, be angry" than "positivity is wrong, go and be an asshole"

  12. I love how this thread has suddenly turned into "The Green Day + newspapers fangirls thread."

  13. Positivity as it manifests today can actually get really tiring. So many people are "thankful" and "blessed" and eager to share messages of positivity without considering what they really even mean, or whether they really mean them. It can stop people expressing negative emotions, whether they're about politics or their own lives and that's dangerous. Without wanting to sound like an anti-social media mum, it does exacerbate that because there's a need to present our lives as more positive than they really are, especially for (and because of) celebrities. I think that's just what Billie means - fuck feeling like it's bad to be angry and go crazy. He's said before that he's more inspired by negativity than positivity, so it's not a big surprise. Personally, I definitely don't want to hear any songs telling me I'll feel better if I look at pictures of puppies

  15. The Walking Contradiction video is hilarious. It's probably my 2nd favourite GD video (after BITUSA). The only thing I don't like about it is that fucking dead hamster on Billie's face.

  16. Tre powerwalking past the campervan whilst trying to look nonchalant is my favourite part of that video

  17. It’s the album I listen to the least because it has so many hits that get overplayed. Damn their talent!

  18. Thought I had GD on shuffle; when I realized it was actually on alphabetical order, I tried to guess what song would be up next. For the J's, I remembered Jackass and Jinx; totally forgot about JOS. For the S's, I remembered Shoplifter and Suffocate; totally forgot about St. Jimmy. Apparently, I need to listen to American Idiot more.

  19. I don’t think it’s about being positive or negative but more about him wondering where all the subversive bands are. With music being all corporate and prepackaged and everybody thinking they have to be good at something right away, he’s not seeing the next Green Day or any young rock bands out there ready to cause the next wave and shock people like they did. Everyone is too afraid or focused on being famous or some bullshit. Anyway, that was my takeaway. He wants to inspire the next generation to do what he did. They may have been accused of being sellouts but this was a band that got naked onstage, set their drums on fire, destroys record stores for the hell of it and tells the powers that be to fuck off, all while reaching a wide audience. Where’s the next big band that’s not afraid to do that? I feel his pain over the current state of music.

  20. If it was a blanket "fuck positivity" then yeah but it's not, it's in the context of them placing positivity as separate to and possibly in opposition to what he suggested implying that what he said was negative. It's fuck the type of positivity that means just being nice and not saying anything and not getting anything done, or something along those lines, not a blanket anti positivity statement.

  22. I was just looking at Oakland's reddit page, and there was a thread asking what the sleaziest bar in Oakland is. The Ruby Room was mentioned several times. One person linked to the song, but called it a Green Day song. I was very tempted to correct them.

  23. My new favourite pastime during the quiet period is to look at old fan photos, because Billie always looks so adorable in them. This one is my current fave: Look at that goofy face. How can you not love him? He looks so happy, with his sweet smile and those chubby little cheeks - he's glowing. Not to mention those dazzling green eyes, and his little eyelashes, and the stubble, and the tiny glimpse of his chest tattoo. Even his skin looks wonderful - so soft and smooth. He is absolutely exquisite. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Billie is the only musician I've ever seen that seems more excited than the fan when they meet each other. I love the fact that he's such a fanboy - I feel like it makes him appreciate meeting fans more because he knows exactly how much that moment means to the fan.

  25. Well puppy posts aside, there's still an unreasonable expectation on many people to be positive and grateful for what they have. Maybe it doesn't prevent everyone from expressing their negative emotions or speaking up, but it does affect some. It didn't occur to me that Billie was literally encouraging people to go smashing windows, just to reject that expectation to be constantly positive, or to be anything else for that matter and to speak up creatively. I'm sure you still interpret it differently though so I guess we'll agree to disagree - no point going in circles without him to elaborate.

  26. It’s my dream to see Favorite Son played live, but it will never happen Like, I actually have dreamed about it, and then woken up and been really disappointed ❤️ When a guy is literate ❤️ #justgirlythings

  27. I mean, I'm all for his message, it's a rare piece of realness. When everyone is preaching conformity and fake positivity, there's nothing better or more appropriate than a little rebellion. Course, maybe he doesn't want to be so serious all the time either God I fucking love this man That was just the advice I needed

  35. Of course . I like how in that video Billie stays totally cool while doing horribly dangerous looking stunts, Tre looks terrified and power walks in fear, and Mike doesn't appear to actually do anything dangerous at all

  36. Yeah at a minimum I had hoped Warners would release the songs on Spotify and iTunes but I guess there’s not enough money in it. 😕 Lucky I got a teenager who showed me how to rip the songs from YT and import them to Spotify. 😉

  37. Idk. Body Bag seems kind of meh to me. Definitely not worthy of being on an album imo. Devil's Kind is pretty good, I prefer it to OW. But I think the 21CB B-sides are probably the best. Lights Out and Hearts Collide are definitely album-worthy, although for an album as great as 21CB I understand why they weren't put on that album.

  38. ^^^ I've been thinking about Billie's eyes a lot recently. They really are something else - they're just so striking. I saw a pic a few days ago (I don't know where to find it now) and it was like a collage of four different photos of Billie, and in each photo, he was looking right at the camera. I found it so extraordinary because he had a different emotion in each pic (in one pic he looked quite sad, in another pic he looked slightly angry/moody, in another pic he looked smug, and in the final pic he looked happy), but in every pic he had the same captivating glare. It just feels like he can see straight through you - it's kinda intimidating, yet comforting at the same time. It sounds weird because that's so contradicting, but then again, that's Billie - I feel like certain aspects of his personality are contradicting too, not just his eyes. The man is literally a walking contradiction. Anyway, back onto eyes. His eyes are the reason why green is my favourite colour. I was always a fan of blue eyes on a guy, but that idea went straight down the drain when I discovered Billie. Yes, Billie soon put a stop to that. I just don't understand how it's possible for somebody to look into those gorgeous eyes and not immediately fall in love.

  40. It's too calm here. We need something to fangirl about to end 2017 on a good note. What about this picture? Billie's eyes are so beautiful! I have an obsession with his eyes. Beautiful shape and they are green.

  44. I made a sort of timeline of the RevRad era because I thought it'd be cute after seeing the South American tour video (which seemed to be 3/4 about that tour and 1/4 the whole tour ). Maybe I should do a bigger one with more stuff but anyway it's random and cute so
