I don't know if my opinion is uncommon / unpopular, but the "I don't have much" in OW, I don't relate to it as financial / material owning. To me it refers to what one really has to give as a person; because despite money and richness, you can still feel poor and lonely inside. In the end, you level of richness isn't related to what you "have" that really matters. And whatever your level of richness, you still have your own "ordinary life" that you are free to see in which or other way. I hope this is clear enough6 points

Actually. I'll save you all the essay but I'm pretty sure it's a year some time this week since I heard either Bang Bang or 2D2D on my favourite radio show, went to investigate, and fell thoroughly in love. Forever grateful. Edit: aaand I just wrote a rambly 2am request email to the same guys about Back in the USA for friday. Sad6 points

@gaslight13 I always try to make a clear distinction between the content of a song and the singer. To me, a song tells a story and stories are usually fictional. I don't really care for the singer just like I don't care for the author if I read a book. It's about the lyrics. And I can relate to them. But you are right, if you assume that the song is supposed to represent the life of Billie Joe Armstrong in 2016, it wouldn't be sincere. But what matters to me is what meaning a song has to myself. Besides, I agree with @Kuromignonne. To me, the song is not necessarily about money. It's about feeling lost and helpless and confused. All that you have is your own personality, your own values and eventually your love for some else.4 points

Ok, I guess this is gonna be very controversial, but : Ordinary World > Good Riddance4 points

That's weird, because normally he makes a big show of holding it in the air and doing little dances with it4 points

Yeah, it's been such a wonderful era. For the first time in my life I can say that I lived it all, from the release of Bang Bang to the one of God's Favorite Band, which actually seems to close the RevRad period (it lasted approximately 1.25 years). Exactly 10 months ago I saw Green Day live for the first time and still today I can't find a day of my life which can be considered as important as that one. Although I was all alone, lost amongst 14000 souls, I felt part of something. I had never been so emotional and that meant a lot for me. An era full of waiting, but it was worth it. An era full of statistics, because I had become obsessed with Green Day commercial performance (it was fun). An era (almost, but it was my fault) full of GDC. And guys, you all deserve a big "thank you" because, in any case, you contributed to change my life a little bit. But a time machine would just be useless. "The child has grown, the dream is gone". And I'm just waiting for a new dream to start.4 points

Rolling Stone lists Dookie as the greatest pop-punk album of all time. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/50-greatest-pop-punk-albums-w508222 Which reminds me of this.3 points

In your defense, in the 3 shows I've been to, I don't remember having said to myself : "oh, this is Blue!" I mean, I noticed it when Billie brought it, but I paid equal attention to every guitar he used (I love his black and white US flag guitar), and I paid way more attention to what Billie was doing with them than the guitars themselves!3 points

But what could have distracted you? Billie bringing Blue on stage grinning like a little boy who got his Christmas presents early is the cutest part of the show. Or, like, of all time 😍2 points

I love it when Billie takes selfies. And although I'm gonna miss my boys so much when the tour ends, I agree with @neverdone2000. It's coming to the end of an era and it's time to move on. I'm really looking forward to the next era of GD - I have a feeling that it's gonna be even better than the RevRad era, and that's something.2 points

I've thoroughly enjoyed the Rev Rad era, too. I'm really happy that I've seen it from the 'start' with the pictures/videos in the recording studio right through to now. Within days of Billies 1st recording studio picture I left my old, unhappy job for a new job that I'm incredibly happy with. Therefore, Rev Rad has been the soundtrack to a new era of my life. I've loved using this forum (especially the fangirls threads ), I've loved all the Facebook lives, Instagram pictures, Instagram lives, concert footage, pictures and news stories. I also feel honoured to have seen one of the best live bands on the planet- I just wish I could use a time machine to take me back to my 1st GD gig. I'm sad that this era has to end- but all good things have to come to an end, and hopefully the next era will be just as exciting!2 points

Yeah. I wish I had a time machine and could go back exactly one year, then I would have 5 shows ahead of me, starting in January It's been such a blast, the most fun tour ever for me.2 points

I've not seen Muse live but I've seen a lot of artists and I think Green Day get the best balance of spectacle, performance and audience interaction. It's hard to do all three but they manage it.2 points

Tbh people only started worrying about every move Billie made and every sad thing he wrote after rehab . Like he always wrote about deep dark stuff but people just accepted that as part of expressing himself, never really saw a lot of worrying going on until we were given actual real life reason to. Not saying no one was concerned by any of his lyrics but it was kind of a different perspective before then, it's really only once you can see the parallels to real life events that it becomes more scary with hindsight.2 points

Nothing. I never said there was anything wrong with it. It’s just not what I want. It can be a beautiful thing for some people and I fully respect that. I just gravitate toward weird. That’s interesting. I hadn’t thought of that perspective. It probably won’t change anything for me but I appreciate the alternative idea. That’s fair. I think a lot of people do that. I listen to music differently though. At least with my favorite artists. For me it’s like a conversation, if that makes sense, so I can’t separate the songwriter from the words. That said, how I apply that way of thinking depends on the artist. If Springsteen wrote this song, I wouldn’t have the same problem in that respect. Because for me, the conversation with him and his work is more of an external comment on society, people, and ways of thinking. With Green Day, it’s more personal, internal, and direct because of the ways I relate to Billie’s writing. But that’s very much a to each his own thing. We’re all fans of this band but not necessarily for the same reasons. There’s no wrong way to connect with a song, but with certain connections, some songs may not resonate like the rest. And for me, this song is one of a very very small number that I just do not click with.1 point

I've been listening to Green Day all day I saw them live on Friday and I miss being there so much! I wish I could do this every month. I want them to be my friends, goddamnit! Would you be friends with someone who had a tattoo of your face on their body?1 point

Yesssss! That's why it's one of my favorite songs ever. I remember hearing it for the first time, it hit me hard. I was someone else. And this reminds me of the scene in Heart Like a Hand Grenade where Billie starts crying when they finish recording Whatsername. It kills me every time1 point

I'm always so amazed by his voice in the second chorus of Whatsername, where you can hear the emotion as it comes through.1 point
