  5. Basically none of us know the intricacies of Billie's personal life and it's dumb to speculate about it based purely on lyrics. If Billie couldn't possibly write cheating songs without actually doing it, what does that say about Bang Bang? Or Having A Blast, or Pulling Teeth? Tbh all the talk about Billie's past relationships makes me uncomfortable- what gives any of us the right to speculate about shit like that?

  6. Honestly it isn't even necessary to debate/provide evidence for Billie cheating/not cheating. Song lyrics and real life are two different things, can't make assumptions about one based on the other.

  7. I don't like Homecoming anymore since I found out Billie actually sent his love a letterbomb and visited her in hell. It's morally questionable and he shouldn't endorse such behaviour.

  8. Wowsa, I was away for a trip and couldn't follow the discussions here regularly. This thread turned into a monster since I was gone 😂 My opinion: 1. I agree with @hermione that songs are fictional pieces of art. They are written with intend, revised several times and crafted with care. Often songs were even written many years ago, or consist of different pieces written in different times. 2. The topic of infidelity in the songs doesn't make me uncomfortable. It's just songs not a manual on how to live life. For me it's like reading a book with fictional characters and the little stories of the trilogy are very entertaining. 3. Humans are human (surprise), everyone makes mistakes. Judging other people for mistakes or being "morally questionable", that's what makes me uncomfortable. "Down with the moral majority", anyone? 4. Billie's personal life, as several peeps here already pointed out, isn't our business. Personally, I always find it hilarious when fans claim to know one thing or the other about their idol's personal life based on speculations, their own "knowledge" of the person's character or something they read online. None of us knows shit about Billie, his family, his personal life and whatever is going through his mind. 5. I actually can't believe we are having this discussion 🙈

  9. Just because a song is about cheating it doesn't mean it endorses cheating. Billie also stated the songs are fantasy as well as making one vague comment about one song being about a girl from NYC (without elaborating on in what context it's about her). And on the trilogy the conclusion is that cheating is a bad idea. Of course you're entitled to your opinion, but because you pick and choose what to take notice of and what to ignore the opinion you've stated doesn't make a lot of logical sense.

  10. I'm sorry but there's a difference between music and real life. If you think it's "inappropriate" for Billie to sing what he's stated are fictional lyrics exploring the idea of having a fling then maybe try to remember that. Would you have a problem with him playing someone having a fling in a film because in real life he's a "married father"? Or writing a book about it? For all we know those songs could draw on experiences from before he was married or even experiences with Adrienne, or be entirely fictional, or a mixture. He's written about relationships with people other than his wife and new relationships etc on other albums and with FBHT, not sure why it's only a problem on Uno Dos and Tre especially when the conclusion there is that giving in to that stuff leads to bad results and that love and faithfulness is the way to go. It seems extremely artistically limiting to want or expect him only to write lyrics that literally describe his current life.

  11. Why do songs about fantasizing or temptation equal songs about cheating to you? It's not immoral to think about other people in a romantic way. I imagine that lots of people in happy relationships have these types of thoughts but don't act on them because they love their partner. Also, why do you have to think about the fact that it's Billie singing/writing these songs and that he's married instead of just enjoying the song for what it is? A song intended to be a fun song to listen to Do you really think if Billie actually cheated, he would write the kind of songs that appear on Dos?

  12. Literally all songs ever written in the history of ever are either based on real life or not real life. Personal interpretation is a great thing and trying to make judgements about someone's life choices shouldn't really be a big deal, it's just like 'oh, he might've cheated' or whatever, and then move on. Also Platypus is one of the most heartfelt and beautiful songs of all time.

  13. @Hero_Of_The_Hour Is this the thing where you'll only take lyrics completely literally and black and white again? A song can be inspired by more than one thing. Bits of it can be inspired by things that happened years ago, other bits by something he was just thinking about, other bits by someone he met, other bits by his wife etc, it doesn't just have to be a literal account of one thing. He could write a song about a sexy fling and really have his wife in mind, he could just write something because it sounds cool. The possibilities are endless, not only limited to literally describing real things. I wonder did you miss that on the trilogy the cheating and partying etc ends badly, and he comes to the conclusion that being faithful/love is the better option? Even from your standpoint of assuming that by mentioning anything Billie is endorsing that thing and/or giving a 100% factual account of a literal event that just happened it still comes to a morally just conclusion in the end.

  15. It will never stop amusing me how Billie angles the camera/poses his face to make his eyes look as big and pretty as possible in selfies. He does look gorgeous though Billie and Adrienne dancing is simply adorable!

  16. Billie and Adie dancing is the cutest thing ever! I can't even deal with how sweet it is. They are the best couple and have so much fun together. Billie's selfie too. I could stare into those eyes all day and night.. They are so beautiful! His naturally curly messy hair is adorable too. What is he doing to us today? I don't know, but he can keep doing it. I do too. I wonder if they get embarressed by them but then I've seen Joey in videos acting silly in the same way so I don't think that apple fell to far from the tree. LOL

  17. The thing is, he doesn't owe us anything in regards to his personal life. I remember when Dos came out a lot of people were repulsed and even said they couldn't listen to Green Day anymore, because he's an older man singing about sex and the songs weren't about Adrienne. But he's not obliged to cater to fans' perceptions of himself or his marriage. I remember him saying "I don't have expectations for a public reaction. If I want to write about sexual tension or straight up fucking, I will" and well, yeah I'm sitting at a bus stop in Austin defending the trilogy #trilogy4lyf

  18. The theme of the trilogy has never really made me uncomfortable. Even if it's literal, it's not for me to question whether he should have been singing about that or not. None of us know what his marriage is like, why the subject came up or what any hypothetical girl might mean to him. The songs are sincere (some of his best love songs in my opinion) and he obviously still feels comfortable with them all, so that's good enough for me.

  19. Read my post. I said it was likely a real girl that doesn't mean there was real infidelity or he would not be boasting about it in a song, on stage or anywhere else. Seriously do you not understand what fantasy is, and that you can fantasize about a real person and it can have nothing to do with your marriage and real life? Maybe you need to visit the fangirls thread, a few of us here could educate you. 😋 I don't care if he writes a 1000 songs, when he describes the trilogy as fantasy and there's zero evidence to the contrary and guess what he and Adie are still happily married (and dancing and laughing) I'm gonna take him at his word. Like any good STORY. And if you don't believe that, just ask Amy or Brando. Oh, that's right, you can't. Kind of the point.

  21. The concept of the ups and downs of love and relationships is a running theme throughout the Trilogy, through subjects such as infidelity, thinking about your ex, fantasising, and sex. Most couples in long term relationships will go though these ups and downs in their relationship, and I think that Billie does a great job of covering such issues across the Trilogy without implying anything about his relationship with Adrienne.

  22. And you're not part of turning it into that at all? Really I think most of the discussion has been about the nature of writing songs. But if we could leave out actually debating Billie's private life and providing "evidence" about his fidelity that would be good.
    3 points
  23. I guess what's frustrating me about your comments is I don't get how you equate the girl being real with the cheating being real. Do you not know how common it is for people to fantasize about real people? I just find your logic flawed -- well he said he really met this girl therefore he must have really had a fling with her and then confessed it to the world in a song. That seems unlikely if it were true. He may have been fucked up then but he has stated he never wrote songs while drunk. He knows what he's doing when he's writing. This debate cracks me up to the point where I just have to post evidence of the Billie we know. Watch this starting at around 49:00. So this is late 2010, around the time he was likely writing the trilogy songs. He's likely a little tipsy and very flirtatious but then this girl plants a serious kiss on him and he gets very embarrassed and laughs because he took it too far. Just watch his reaction. He would never and I know it.

  25. Not only this but I actually hear the Trilogy as the complete opposite of infidelity. This is self confessed fantasy from a guy that needs an outlet because he's been faithfully married since he was 22. He never got to experience these things is my takeaway (and it's frustratingly all around him and available) so he gets to live them out in songs. He literally says, "My imagination runs away" in 8th Ave Seranade to name just one example. I think if he had been doing these things he wouldn't have been writing about it, the fact that he is tells you it's fantasy and if you think about it, kind of healthy in a way compared to committing the actual act(s).

  34. Well you said the reason you don't like them is because you believe the lyrics about cheating not to be fantasy as Billie has said they are, if that isn't an implication about his private life I don't know what is. Still if you believe that you can believe it. Like I said let's just leave out discussing his personal business (ie his fidelity) now shall we.

  36. A song about cheating isn't the same thing as cheating. Thinking that writing a song (or book or film etc) about cheating is morally OK isn't the same thing as thinking cheating is morally OK.

  38. Your post seems really confused to me On one hand, you say that you "would take songs about cheating and affairs any day over cellos and shopping online..." but still you feel uncomfortable "listening to three albums about cheating or having affairs". Well, why? My life has been a severe addiction journey; that being said, I will never pretend knowing exactly and entirely what every section of his songwriting stands for to Billie, and of course the trilogy can't be reduced to a "folly of his addictions". I don't think either that there are songs that are only about one negative aspect of Billie's life and others that are only positive, the first ones being embarrassingly "honest" and the latter some "attempts at an obscure metaphor". Not the way I see RevRad, and it's my favorite album. Moreover, I think each of us is in right to listen to what he wants and likes without any justification needed, and even though we're not sure about the story behind the song (that we might never really know) and we only know it must have been something hard / not pretty. Every song Billie has written, wherever it comes from, is part of the person he is today. I'm most grateful to Billie, and everything new I learn about him, whether it can be related to present or past including his bad health/unhappiness at some point, is something I cherish and that makes me love even more all he's written, especially the trilogy songs, precisely because I understand more and more what time it must have been to him. I need and I want to understand this time also, and to feel what it makes me feel. Any moral blockage to it would be a misleading of mine.

  42. No One Knows is an excellent song. That bass line is the reason why Mike will forever be one of my favourite bassists. And the ending of the song sounds so good. Usually, I prefer loud, fast songs, but I just really love how mellow and calm this song is.

  43. Okay, apparently you guys are getting into my subconscious. My dream last night- Green Day was playing in an elementary school classroom. Billie noticed me taking pictures in the front row and grabbed my face and asked me how many cats @SHART still had, and that my insane cousin (no, I don't actually have one in real life) was a cat killer. So since I promised him that I'd ask- how are your cats doing @SHART?

  44. I finally have the time to write the dream I had a few nights ago. It only concerns Billie Joe. So, I dream that I was in someone giant backyard during a party. I don't know why there was this party and for who, but a television crew was there filming. At the party, I met one of my coworkers and she told me a friend of her succeeded to enter Billie Joe's personal computer. This «friend» stole all Billie's taxes declarations and bills since 1993 from the computer. (WTF? Who keeps such things inside its computer for over 20 years?) My coworker's friend gave her a copy of all what he had stolen and she was now offering me to get my own copy. So, we went inside the house and found a computer. I made the copies of the taxes declarations and bills on my usb key, and I was so happy to be able to have those in my possession. (I can't belive I was happy for such things. XD) Anyway, we went back outside where we came face to face with Billie Joe. He looked unhappy and I was so sure it was because he figured out someone stole those important files inside his computer. I was wrong. He was searching for me and supposely I was late for something. I didn't know what he was talking about. He grabbed my arm and forced me to follow him, leaving my coworker behind. So, after crossing the entire gigantic backyard, we arrived in front of a tv host/psycho doctor/social worker... I really don't know who was exactly this guy, but you can compare him to Dr. Phil. Anyway, he wanted to interview us about our friendship. (???) We all sit on very cheap plastic chairs. First question: why are we friends together? Billie Joe's answer was «She has hot hands, but cold feet.» (O_O What kind of answer is that?) My answer was «I don't know. I was bored when I started to talk to him.» Second question: what do we like to do together as friends? Billie was like «Oh! lets show him how we love to watch tv together.» He took two chairs and lay on his back on both of them. And me, I just sit over his belly. Then, Billie said to the tv host «See? This is how we love watching tv together.» After this, we sit just like before our demonstration and waited for the next question. But, I don't know why, I started to feel ashamed for lying to the tv host. I was upset at Billie. I told him «Why are we lying? I'm not friend with you at all! But I'm glad I had the chance to sit on you... Unfortunately, you're just a dream.» Then I woke up right after the last sentence.
