  1. In the pop choir at my school, we're going to do Good Riddance!!!!!!! We've been trying to decide on a more modern song that we could add instrumentation to for about a week now, and it literally came down to a coin toss between that and sound of silence. The GD gods looked favorably upon me today i guess. And now i've got about a month to learn it on guitar

  2. Another reason to add EJN to the setlist...

  3. Same here. I knew of them and listened to them casually throughout high school and college in the 1990's. But seeing them live for the first time on March 10 just blew me away. I've listened to little else besides GD since the show. I'm glad it's not just me, too. I'm all in.

  7. I haven't listened to Tre very much, but I listen to most songs on Dos pretty regularly. It's my favourite out of the three.

  8. 12 artists who are a positive influence The punk attitude of Green Day has been inspiring our scene for decades. From Warning to American Idiot, the group have always been known for their rebelliousness and not holding back on talking about social issues. The band’s charity work is actually quite impressive, as the list includes Artists For Peace And Justice, Children With Leukemia, 21st Century Leaders, Habitat For Humanity, Music For Relief, Red Cross, MusiCares, Music In Schools Today and many more. http://www.altpress.com/features/entry/12_artists_that_are_a_positive_influence

  10. Yes! I'm seeing them at Wrigley, but would much rather see them at the United Center.

  12. Yeah they had quite an active Myspace as it was before Facebook took over. There were strange photos on it and they'd give updates about what was going on and post surprise new songs before the album was out (Broadway and The Pedestrian). After each show on their US tour the Rev would post a blog full of his 60's style slang (Sting sting! Baby girl!) talking about the show they just played and signing off with a mention of the next place they'd play. But tragically all the blogs were deleted when Myspace got rid of all blogs with no warning The end of the last message is quoted on GDA here. I might have a look later to see if I can find any more that were reported/quoted there.

  13. I think I've successfully turned my brother onto Green Day for real We were driving to my dad's yesterday and all of a sudden Jaded(!) came on the stereo. Turns out it was an Essential GD type of playlist on iTunes that he's been getting into. We listened to that, Brain Stew, Geek Stink Breath, Redundant and Bang Bang amongst others on the way there, it was a nice little 'moment'. To top it off he's thoroughly enjoying puppet Billie on instagram, there's no turning back from that

  14. I notice that a lot of people on this thread are saying that they had known about Green Day for a long time, but didn't really become a fan until last year. It was the same with me, but I thought I was the only one. Thank God I'm not. I became a casual fan around about July last year, but since then, I've listened to more and more of their music and now I own all of their albums and I consider myself fully part of the fandom. So, more people are becoming proper Green Day fans, and I have also noticed that a lot of young kids are going to see shows on the Rev Rad tour. Why is Green Day gaining so many fans now? Also, some people on this thread have said that they stopped coming on GDC around trilogy era, but now they have started coming back on regularly. Why is that? Is it because there was a lack of wow in the trilogy, or is it because you have gained a lot of love for Rev Rad?

  16. I've known about them for about 10 years, but I only started listening to them about a year ago. I've yet to see them live, but hopefully, I won't have to wait much longer. GD is the only thing I've listened to for about 10 months now. I'm just addicted. I've noticed a lot of people on GDC who say they only became a fan within the last year, so we're not the only ones.

  17. Most people actually think the first half is better than the second half. Imo, I don't really think one half is better than the other. I have favourites from both sides of the album I really would recommend giving the trilogy a proper chance though. A lot of people don't and actually miss out on some music that they might really enjoy if they did actually give it a chance

  21. Oh I get you @jengd I'm having trouble getting through three weeks, don't even want to think about when the whole tour cycle ends. There was talk of a November Brazil date recently though, but even if that's a whole south american tour, maybe add Japan over the new year, there's still another year after that. Maybe they're spacing it out even more, doing other projects like the AI movie in between. I dunno, can't help but speculate

  22. Same! Dos and Tré are a bit hit and miss but most days I can get really into every single song on Uno. The only trouble I have with it is that they tend to feel about 30 seconds too long.

  23. Hey guys, I don't know if this is news material, but I've interviewed Cole from SWMRS the other day and we mentioned Green Day a few times. Here is the link to the interview in case you like SWMRS http://www.strifethemagazine.com/newsfeed/interview-with-cole-becker-from-swmrs and here are just the parts with a Green Day mention if you don't wanna read the whole thing:

  24. We really are fandom twins I stopped posting at one point too, and came back for a few posts every few years (trilogy announcement, Hall of Fame induction ceremony) and then came back regularly last August. I recognised Hermione as well and a few others. It's always been GDC for me though. I had no idea a Mike forum existed, that's amazing, lmao. I don't really know. I left around 2010, came back and made a few posts when I saw that picture of the guys holding up the albums, and then left again. I don't think the trilogy really inspired me to talk about it that much. But the weird thing is I came back last year before the album or even Bang Bang was out, so maybe I just had a feeling it was going to be good, lol. I wouldn't say I stopped loving Green Day before that but I kinda stopped following all the non-album stuff, like Billie's acting and the side projects. Which I suppose was a result of not coming on to the forum

  26. Okay this is not related to this at all but I just wanted to say that I clicked the link "GD.com" and I died because this is where it got me. To not go off topic, me and my dad looked through old boxes full of CDs in the basement and we found multiple homemade CDs from 2005-2008 with tracks like Working Class Hero (the GD cover) and BOBD. We did have great taste back then.

  27. Y'all are making regret so much not exploring GD further during my two short phases in 05/08. So much fun missed Regarding anniversaries I've been trying through playlists to find the exact date I heard either Too dumb to die or Bang Bang on the radio in November and it's doing my head in that I can't But - random thought: ¡Viva La Gloria! is surely some of their best melody work

  28. FBHT times were the best. Best surprise ever when they just mysteriously turned up out of nowhere with 6 free songs when there'd been virtually nothing but silence from GD for a few years. And it was so much fun being new on GDC (which was actually Foxboro Hot Tubs Community for a while ) following their US tour and hearing all the crazy details of each show and reading Myspace updates from the Rev. Great times.

  29. Not to make it any worse, but yeah. 21CB was the first album of theirs that I anticipated with the fandom. The years of, say, 2006 and 2007 were quiet with a lot of random appearances but I was preoccupied with consuming every ounce of their career as a newer fan at that point, so I was good. But like...2008, 2009, and 2010 were some of the best times, man. I met my best friend through a forum when 21CB came out and 7 years later, we saw Green Day together last month. It was a damn good era. It was probably just after the AI musical's run in 2011 that my interest was waning under the life-change of starting college. And then I was given every reason to remain distant during the trilogy. And now there's this era which...honestly...is quickly gaining rank with me as a favorite era. It's a return to the fandom for me. It's the first era where I've been a proper, self-sufficient adult. It's been good times so far. ...Idk why this turned into a post about my whole GD history, but it did and I'm sorry.

  30. I love that @stories and songs @MaraGreenDay and I were all beginning our love affair with Green Day in the same month . Although considering it was a few months after AI came out there's probably quite a lot of other people in the April 2005 club too

  31. I don't actually know the exact date but I know it was between other events (when my workplace moved and my dad's wedding) so I know it was around April 2005. Being 19 at the time rather than a child probably makes it easier to remember.

  32. Today is the day I consider my Green Day anniversary. There were months leading up to it where I was getting more and more interested in Green Day, but April 5, 2005 was the official day that they wore me down and I decided they were my favorite band. I resisted for such a long time—I was all emo at the time and thought their music was too punchy and upbeat for me. I'm glad they finally broke me, lol. Happy Anniversary, Green Day. The past 12 years with you have given me so, so much happiness (most of the time ), and you've only gotten better with age. I'm so proud that they're my favorite band. Wouldn't have it any other way.

  33. Ha! I was at the dentist today and had both Give Me Novocaine and the video for Geek Stink Breath stuck in my head. I always felt that Viva la Gloria (Little Girl) and, to a lesser degree, Peacemaker, were the offspring of Misery.

  34. Well, here's my tracklists for the CDs I made for someone who has never heard AI, 21cBD, the Trilogy or RevRad but is very familiar with the older material. This is how I saw a progression to where they are today and how they have evolved in similar yet at the same time completely different sounds. Disc 1: Scattered / Hearts Collide Christie Road / Outlaws Why Do You Want Him? / Fell For You Castaway / East Jesus Nowhere Haushinka / Extraordinary Girl You Lied / Bouncing Off the Wall All the Time / Horseshoes and Handgrenades Pulling Teeth / Give Me Novocaine Private Ale / Amanda No Pride / Last of the American Girls Rotting / Wild One One of my Lies / Murder City Disc 2: 2000 Light Years Away / Youngblood No One Knows / Before the Lobotomy Reject / She's a Rebel Waiting / Last Night on Earth Fashion Victim / Too Dumb to Die Deadbeat Holiday / The Static Age Jackass / Stray Heart Walking Alone / Whatsername At the Library / Stay the Night Misery / Say Goodbye Hitchin a Ride / Brutal Love Feel free to post ones you feel connect the dots!!!

  35. Has anyone reported finding Tre Cool's drumsticks at any of the shows so far? If so, where were they? I think Tre is primarily hiding them in the very far back, at the very top seats. Anyway, I will have two opportunities to find them this summer and I really wanna.
