  1. I didn't know where to post this, guess it could go in the fangirl's thread too lol, but I just wanted to say how much I love what this girl did, almost everyday I see so much love for Billie and Mike but not so much for Tré so this was very important, love how she basically ignored BJ and Mike to went directly to Tré Girl, I don't know if you're here but I wanted to say thank you and you rock! 3:02-3:38

  3. Deadbeat Holiday is musically and lyrically fantastic. Cymbals in "Christmas lights in the middle of August" are perfect with that catchy guitar riff.

  4. Walking Alone is such a gem. The lyrics are great and I just love everything about that song.

  5. After posting an article about the anniversary of Dookie on my Facebook page the other day, I had two friends who are both a couple years older than me leave the following comments: "Green Day used to play parties in my little hometown, during the early '90s... I'll never forget watching their first video on MTV(which was the #1 video that summer I believe), at my girlfriend's, and being completely shocked at their sudden "success". I also remember 2 of them getting beat up at a Petaluma party one time...prolly for "stealing" dudes' girlfriends, which they had a reputation for, even way back then haha." "I saw them twice before Dookie came out and I thought they were good but I would have picked 20 bands of that era that I thought would blow up before them! Shows how much I know..." i was so so jealous of both of them for having seen them pre-Dookie!

  6. I think it was just a Green Day kind of thing to call it an "Idiot Club", fit well for a band with an album called Dookie out and a frontman who would wear a shirt with "stupid" and an arrow pointing to his face on it. Self deprecating humour. I believe it was just called the Green Day Fanclub for quite a few years after that though - then they brought back the Idiot Club name when it was relaunched with American Idiot. So it is kind of partly named after American Idiot. Then a few years ago they "relaunched" it again renaming it Idiot Nation. As far as I can see the only reason for this was so they could pretend it was something new and get more people to part with their money by signing up, since it's just exactly the same as Idiot Club was with the same low amount of good stuff offered. Shame because Idiot Club was quite a cool and amusing name but Idiot Nation is just a lame "we're our own nation of Green Day fans guys!" thing and a marketing ploy

  8. Warning is probably the most adult album Green Day has done thematically. I feel like it's a bunch of wise older dudes talking to me when I listen to it. I mean this in the best way, I love Warning.

  9. Agreed. That's one of those songs that I didn't pay much attention to at first, and then all of a sudden just fell in love with one day. I found it funny that when the kid who went onstage to play WICA at the Aragon show last year went over to jam with Jason (at the end of the song), he had a look on his face like, "Why are you here? No one ever comes by me".

  10. It was nice to see a bit about the GD Uk tour in the free newspaper that I picked up on the bus this morning. And it was great to see the elderly gentleman in the seat in front looking at the page too (if only for 10 seconds)

  11. I have a nice Green Day reference I've never shared here although it's already some years ago... in May 2012 I was in the USA with some friends, we were on a roundtrip from Denver through the National Parks in Utah and Arizona up to the Yellowstone National Park. When we passed through Salt Lake City, we saw a music shop and because one of my friends is a drummer, we stopped so that he could look at some stuff and maybe buy some equipment. While he was looking for his stuff, I spotted a picture on the wall and I had to look twice to be sure: It showed Green Day jamming in that music shop. Billie was sitting on a stool playing the guitar and the other guys were trying some equipment, too. I caught the owner and questioned him and he told me that the boys had stopped by his shop some months ago comepletely unexpected, they just came in like "Hi, can we try some of your equipment" and also bought some stuff. Tré signed some drumsticks and left them there for the owner to sell, but unfortunately, they were already sold out, so my friend, the drummer, didn't get some. What a bummer. But still a great story that makes me smile every time I think about it. Just imagine walking into a music store and finding Green Day jamming there.

  14. I know it's legit because I can faintly remember it from when it happened. Don't know exactly where it's from but I think it was while Obama was campaigning to become president in 2008. Edit: Forget that, found an old GDA post that mentions it. It was at an Obama fundraiser in 2007: http://www.greendayauthority.com/news/1522/

  15. I think they say it in that broad way to keep things simple and give themselves freedom rather than obsessing about being defined as a certain thing and putting themselves in a box musically. Doesn't mean they don't also consider themselves punk - rock or rock n roll includes punk, and also the definition of punk they subscribe to especially is about attitude and standing for certain things rather than just the sound of the music.

  23. This is a Green Day logo on the steps of Rock Bar Karaoke in my hometown. I thought it was pretty cool, each step leading to the bar has a band logo branded on it.

  26. Okay, oh my god. I'm still a bit shaking as I'm typing this and I'm not sure I fully realized or processed it yet. I still feel in shock. I arrived in Cologne earlier today, where I'll be attending the concert tomorrow. I walked around the city square for a bit and went into the Starbucks at the central station, high-key hoping that Mike would show up. Because you know, coffee. Alas, he didn't so I walked to the arena, marveled at it a bit and went to my AirBNB, which is only like 5 minutes from the arena. Not much later my friend I'm going to the concert with tomorrow sent me screenshots of Instagram from a girl who just met Tré and Billie at the dome. And that really isn't far from my room either, so I put on my clothes as quickly as possible and put on my make up and power-walked in the direction of the dome. A hockey game or something had just ended in the arena so of course I was held back by hundreds of loud sports fans, but I pushed my way through and soon enough I was walking on the bridge with the love locks. I kept thinking "Oh no, I'm too late, they're already gone" and kind of desperately kept walking but deep inside I knew that this was the day. And was on the lookout for a blue head because Tré would be the easiest to spot. So I walked and walked and suddenly... a tall blonde guy walked past me, laughing about something with his all-in-black group. I just stood still and stared at him in disbelief as he walked. At first I didn't realize it was Mike. I saw him walking towards me but I thought "Nah, that's not him. That's some German guy who just looks like him. Keep walking." But I stared after him, looked at his Converse, looked at his Oakland Coffee cap and I freaked out a little bit. I panicked and texted @I don't care who practically yelled at me to follow them and ask them for a pic. So I followed them, but of course I was terribly awkward (and probably a little creepy) about it. They walked and stopped like two times. I stopped too and averted my eyes like some kind of freakish amateur stalker. I just couldn't build up the courage to ask my idol for a picture. Then I saw that one of them, a rather short one (guess who), had separated himself from the group to take a picture of the love locks and of the train that was just passing by. It was then that I realized that this was Billie standing on his toes to look over the fence. (Such a cute sight, I will never forget it) So I waited until he was done (No, I didn't photograph him. I might be a freak but even I'm not that rude to photograph him without his knowledge) and turned away when I (in an embarrassingly high-pitched voice) asked "Sorry?? Can I take a picture with you?" There would have probably been better ways to approach him but cut me some slack, okay? I was out of breath from power-walking and two of my idols were right in front of me. So he turned around, looked at me for a second and held his black analog camera (the one with film inside) to his face and photographed me. I just stared at him like "What is he doing? Out of both of us, who is the celebrity?" but I let him do it. Then he said something like "Come here, turn around", confusing me even more. I did what he said and turned my back to him completely but he said "No no, stand like that" and gave me instructions on how to stand and positioned me. So there I was, my body facing the love-locks-fence and my face facing him while he adjusted his own position and snapped a few photos of me. I'm so glad I dyed my hair bright red on Friday, or else I think he wouldn't have done it. He then smiled and said "Okay, wanna take a selfie?" and I said "Yes, please!". I held out my arm but then quickly gave it to him, saying "Can you take it? My hand is shaking too much" and he took like three selfies of us. I thanked him, he grinned again and said "Pleasure, have a good one!" and walked away. I cradled my phone for a bit and stared at the picture in disbelief and absolute joy, just like the kind of freak I am. I still wanted a pic with Mike but he was already a bit ahead and I felt very weird following them again. But another guy was taking a pic with him at the moment and I knew I would hate myself forever if I didn't approach him. I waited until they were done and he was just about to go again when I stopped him (I hope he wasn't annoyed). I asked "Mike? Can I take a picture with you too?", he said "Sure!", I asked "Can you take it? Your arm is longer than mine". (Who the fuck says something like this?!) He said "Be careful, I tend to drop people's phones". He fumbled a bit with my phone to switch to the front camera (I forgot) and then snapped two pics of us. I thanked him (so much), he said "Have a nice day!" and I let them go. I don't think Tré was there (maybe he was and I didn't recognize him, after all I didn't recognize Billie at first either), but I saw Jason Freese walking there too. Maybe Jakob as well, but I'm really not sure. I walked around aimlessly for a while, confused about everything and in shock. So yeah. This will have been the best weekend of my entire life. Maybe he'll recognize me tomorrow
