  1. After posting an article about the anniversary of Dookie on my Facebook page the other day, I had two friends who are both a couple years older than me leave the following comments: "Green Day used to play parties in my little hometown, during the early '90s... I'll never forget watching their first video on MTV(which was the #1 video that summer I believe), at my girlfriend's, and being completely shocked at their sudden "success". I also remember 2 of them getting beat up at a Petaluma party one time...prolly for "stealing" dudes' girlfriends, which they had a reputation for, even way back then haha." "I saw them twice before Dookie came out and I thought they were good but I would have picked 20 bands of that era that I thought would blow up before them! Shows how much I know..." i was so so jealous of both of them for having seen them pre-Dookie!

  2. I have a nice Green Day reference I've never shared here although it's already some years ago... in May 2012 I was in the USA with some friends, we were on a roundtrip from Denver through the National Parks in Utah and Arizona up to the Yellowstone National Park. When we passed through Salt Lake City, we saw a music shop and because one of my friends is a drummer, we stopped so that he could look at some stuff and maybe buy some equipment. While he was looking for his stuff, I spotted a picture on the wall and I had to look twice to be sure: It showed Green Day jamming in that music shop. Billie was sitting on a stool playing the guitar and the other guys were trying some equipment, too. I caught the owner and questioned him and he told me that the boys had stopped by his shop some months ago comepletely unexpected, they just came in like "Hi, can we try some of your equipment" and also bought some stuff. Tré signed some drumsticks and left them there for the owner to sell, but unfortunately, they were already sold out, so my friend, the drummer, didn't get some. What a bummer. But still a great story that makes me smile every time I think about it. Just imagine walking into a music store and finding Green Day jamming there.

  7. It was nice to see a bit about the GD Uk tour in the free newspaper that I picked up on the bus this morning. And it was great to see the elderly gentleman in the seat in front looking at the page too (if only for 10 seconds)

  10. I was watching this skit earlier and the entire time, I couldn't think anything other than Andy looking a lot like the Saint Jimmy from the Jesus of Suburbia video instead of Sweeney Todd The hair and makeup is spot on haha (his character is around the 1:20 mark)

  12. I'm hoping Troubled Times becomes a staple on the setlist for the rest of the tour. It's extremely fitting because of everything going on atm. It sounded fantastic the other night!

  19. Hey, as you can see I'm new to this community and I just want to state my opinion on Green Day. Maybe it's nice for you to get to know how fast a "newbie" fan can fall deeply in love with the best band in the world... So let me start: It's been one and a half year that I consider myself being a real fan of Green Day. It all started with a bunch of songs (mostly AI/21CB-decade) that I downloaded a while ago and always had fun listening to them on my phone. But then came a day that changed everything: My brother was listening to the radio and they started playing Holiday (which therefore is my favorite song off all songs this band has put out) and I liked this song a lot. I then searched for it on a music app and found out that it's from Green Day! Soon I started listening to American Idiot and I fell in love with every song on that record immediately. I downloaded them all and I knew I have to listen to all of their stuff as soon as possible. Following many nights I spend listening to all their records, I found out that what I discovered there was more than I ever thought a single band can put out - like it wasn't just a bunch of good lyrics, fun to listen to or great music. No, it was way more than that and to this day, I still can't find the words to describe it. Ever since, this band had a huge impact on everything I do and everyone of my thoughts. And after that I bought all of their records, life albums, making ofs, compilations - basically all their stuff. I never regret it and whenever I look at all those records stacked on my desc, I get goosebumps and so many good thoughts are running through my head. Whenever I listen to a Green Day song (any Green Day song) I feel infinite and start embracing this world even more. The so far last chapter of my experience with Green Day goes back to August 2016. I just came back from vacation and I didn't know that my favorite band has planned to put out a record again which I dreamed of since I listened to all their stuff. I just new about all those rumors going on - you know, with the hashtag #revrad thing, where nobody knew anything for sure. And when I first listened to Bang Bang in my Garden which was released during my vacation (that's the reason that I didn't get to listen to it earlier) it just blew my mind. And at that point of time, I knew the record was going to be killer! Time went by and they released those three awesome singles and I got to love this band even more (if this was possible at all). I celebrated the day they've put out Revolution Radio so much and the night before I got the cd and a revrad-tshirt. I've put it on immediately and started listening to Revolution Radio. (I'm so sorry but I can't really find any words to describe that experience.) As soon as I knew they have planned a world tour, I needed to get tickets. To see them live I dreamed of for a long time now. And when that day came (it's been two days now already) I couldn't think of what it's going to be like. As soon as I got to the arena and I knew my dream is about to become true, I cried. I cried throughout the first song they played that night and throughout the last. Next day I even cried more cause at that point of time I first got to realize what has happened the night before. (I guess it will take even more time to really figure that out.) So Green Day was the first band I really fell in love with and that all happened so fast! I know I've not been a fan for many years but I sadly didn't get in touch with that kind of music earlier (can you blame me for that?). To all of you fans out there: Green Day is and always will be the best band on this planet and I hope for all of you - and myself of course - that their career will go on as long as possible!!! *-* Thanks for listening, I hope my post was interesting to read! And please forgive me for any language mistakes I've probably made because English isn't my mother language (I'm from Germany)

  20. Also, I love how when people want to throw the Green Day isn't punk argument around the first band they compare them to is the Sex Pistols. Yeah, because John Lydon is very punk rock doing I can't believe it's not butter commericals, if we're gonna get that petty. Personally, I don't care what they call themselves. I still love their music

  22. I see no reason why Adrienne would be upset or jealous of Billie writing about past romances. Part of a great relationship is being honest and open and that includes discussing the past. If I told my husband that I never wonder what happened to my ex-fiancee I would be lying to him. The only difference here is that Billie is a songwriter and he puts his thoughts on paper.

  23. I can't think of which interviews exactly but I think he (and also Adrienne in an old Idiot Club one I remember) has said there's just certain people who leave a big impression on you in life and she was a "one who got away" who was that for him. I doubt he's still in love with her, seems like she/their relationship just made a lasting impact on him so became a go-to reference for writing songs about relationships. He kind of wraps things up nicely in the song Amanda, sounds like closure over it.
